Is this a dogs name ?

LAURAMINIMAQ88 · 08/01/2022 01:17

My son was born and we have named him "Frank" , I don't expect all the people to like it but I felt quite sad when few of the mums on mums group where I belong, were commenting about their dogs name and they were laughing and saying that Frank is a dogs name knowing very well that this is my son's name.
The comments weren't directed to me (they both have had conversation between each other but I found it a bit rude...
Is this really a Dogs name ?
Have I made a mistake ?

@Lucinda7 I was going to mention Frank Iero too! A literal rock star, who also happens to love dogs Grin

trumpisagit · 08/01/2022 10:46

Kids are generally ecstatic to meet a dog with their name. My kids have normal boys names but have met dogs with their names, and were really pleased.
I know lots of dogs, but don't know any called Frank.

Jennalong · 08/01/2022 10:49

My name , your name , everyone's name could be a dogs or a goldfishes name .
Just ignore the person who was rude enough to vocalise their opinion . Nothing wrong in naming your son that.

onedayoranother · 08/01/2022 10:58

Never met a dog named Frank but I knew two people called Frank growing up. I always thought if it more an American name (where I grew up) as I don't think I've ever come across one here.

Spidey66 · 08/01/2022 11:03

My dog is called Maggie. She has "frienďs" called Roxy, Billy, Connie, and Max.

Frank is a good name for a baby.

Borderterrierpuppy · 08/01/2022 11:09

Frank is a great name don’t second guess your choice. The benefit you got from hearing them is that now you know which ones are not worth having as friends.

ItsFuckingJuneDadQuickHide · 08/01/2022 11:22

It's a lovely name. I hope someone pointed out how rude they were being
They obviously lack manners

HoldingTheDoor · 08/01/2022 11:26

It's not a name I can inagine giving to a lovely newborn. It's so harsh and ugly. But I don't think of it a dog's name at all.

Bettysnow · 08/01/2022 11:29

You should write on the chat "Speaking of dog names i have two bitches called (insert both their names)!"

Chely · 08/01/2022 11:30

Pretty much any name is a dogs name these days

Flatandhappy · 08/01/2022 11:31

How incredibly rude. It has become a thing to give normal male and female names to dogs but that’s what is a little strange, it’s not like you are calling your kid Fido! I had an uncle called Frank, cute slightly retro name for a little boy. Congratulations x

Simonthecatsservant · 08/01/2022 11:36

Frank is a lovely name.
Frank is a human name.
I have a cats called Simon and William named after blokes I’ve worked with. They are human names that make me smile when I call my cats.
Your friends are nasty.
It’s not like you called your ds bloody biscuit or floppy. Now those are pet names.

BlueShirtGirl · 08/01/2022 11:38

I personally think it’s weird when people give their pets human names so on that basis I’d say Frank is a perfectly acceptable name for a human. Not to my taste but he’s not my child! Some people say my youngest has a cats name! I don’t care!

Biker47 · 08/01/2022 11:39

It's not solely a dogs name, but it is a pretty unfashionable name.

LondonQueen · 08/01/2022 12:09

Frank is a traditional name. Definitely not a dogs name! Mums groups can be incredibly bitchy.

timoteigirl · 08/01/2022 12:15

There are many dogs named with people's names and vice versa. I wouldn't consider Frank a dog's name but think it is one of the old style names back in fashion. Ignore those idiots!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 08/01/2022 12:46

@topcat2014

Dogs should be given dogs names like ruffles. I hate dogs having people names.
I agree. When someone calls their dog Daisy I just think 'what a wasted opportunity!'.
BindTheWobbinUp · 08/01/2022 12:46

Frank isn't exclusively a dog name ... I mean if you'd called him Rover they'd have a point!

Ignore them!

Franticbutterfly · 08/01/2022 12:47

It was my cats name, but it's just a name. I might have named a son had I had one Francis (and it would have been shortened to Frank). They are just being bitches. Ignore them.

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/01/2022 12:48

Don’t know any dogs named Frank. Do know a couple of humans, though. One is a Frankie, which is lovely, I think.

nalabae · 08/01/2022 13:01

Frank is very old school but not a dogs name. They are rude. They knew what they were doing

CharlotteRose90 · 08/01/2022 13:27

I’ve known a few dogs called frank now strangely all pug dogs.

For a child it’s a very old fashioned name. Normally it’s Frankie for a name not frank.

lisaandalan · 08/01/2022 23:28

No frank - Frankie is a boys name, they're just nasty people take no notice of them. X

TooMuchSugar22 · 08/01/2022 23:30

I know a baby Frank I also know a dog Frank.

However I also know a baby Leo and a dog leo and a cat Leo.

Call your baby what you want

Singalongsingsong · 08/01/2022 23:39

I think Frank is a great name. I’ve never met a dog called Frank, but I currently know dogs called Luna, Wilbur, Dora, Archie, Sam, Norman, Wilfred, Albie, Poppy, Maisy, Daisy, Henry, Billy , Sidney and dozens more ‘human’ names, so just ignore your rude friends. I expect there are dogs out there who share both their and their children’s names too.
