To want a tongue piercing at 39

stevieknits · 02/01/2022 09:27

Just this really! I had it done in a moment of madness when I was 17, loved it and kept it in for years. I stupidly took it out when I started teaching in a bid to look more responsible. I'm sure I've spent too long over the last few days watching 90s music videos and reminiscing over my lost youth, but I've had the sudden urge to get my tongue re-pierced. I've got young children, am on a break from teaching and I think the approach towards my 40s has hit me like a ton of bricks. As far as mid-life crisises go it could be worse couldn't it?

Go for it!

nannybeach · 02/01/2022 09:34

I'm 71 and want a tattoo!

Neron · 02/01/2022 09:43

Go for it OP, if it's what you want.
The good thing about piercings is you can always take them out if you change your mind/no longer want it.

Snoopfroggyfrogg · 02/01/2022 09:44

Go for it!

KurtWilde · 02/01/2022 09:44

Had mine done for my 40th. Love it.

1stTimeMama · 02/01/2022 09:48

I'm 39 and had my tongue done at 18, and still have it. I got my tragus pierced a few months back and would now like some more. There's no reason not to as far as I can see. Go for it!

DropYourSword · 02/01/2022 09:52

Oh man, wouldn’t want to go through the recovery processes of a tongue piercing again! And it’s super bad for your teeth!

I’d get your nipples done instead!

Bagelsandbrie · 02/01/2022 09:53

Hmmm I am all for piercings and tattoos and whatever generally but a tongue one is really dodgy in terms of causing damage to your teeth - which is more of an issue as you get older as the enamel is weaker generally. My dh and dd have / had theirs done (at a very good place etc) and dh really regrets his as he’s convinced it’s caused some damage to his teeth - he’s taken his out now.

AlexaShutUp · 02/01/2022 09:55

YANBU to get it done if it would make you happy. It's your body, and doesn't cause harm to anyone else.

But why? I honestly don't get the appeal!Confused

SisterAgatha · 02/01/2022 09:55

Yanbu for wanting what you want. I hate all this midlife crisis stuff. You do what you like with your own body - life is short. Enjoy it!

monicacat · 02/01/2022 09:57

I had a nose piercing last week and I am in my 60s. I expected a fuss but no one bothered and I love it.
If it makes you happy and harms no one else do it for yourself.

pilates · 02/01/2022 09:59

Just out of interest, how does it damage your teeth?

Treedown · 02/01/2022 09:59

I had one in my 20s and loved it BUT I'm now currently paying dental fees to have my chipped teeth fixed from playing with it too much. sort of with I hadn't bothered 😅

pilates · 02/01/2022 10:00

I think treedown has answered my question

Bagelsandbrie · 02/01/2022 10:02

@pilates

Just out of interest, how does it damage your teeth?
Basically bangs against them and chips away at them!
Treedown · 02/01/2022 10:04

yes I also have a little worn down area in between the two bottom teeth and two front teeth, where I must have chewed on the bar, as you move it around your mouth a lot and play with it. I think I only had it in a year maybe 18 months but it did quite a lot of damage in that time.

SNUG2022 · 02/01/2022 10:05

Yes first thought was teeth.

KurtWilde · 02/01/2022 10:14

Barely notice it's there after 6 years tbh, no dental problems so far.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 02/01/2022 10:16

Go for it had mine done around 17 too and 20 years later it's still there. Tbh I cant take it out it affects how I talk and eat without it.

stevieknits · 02/01/2022 10:27

Wow I think that's pretty much unanimous and you've all helped make up my mind to go for it! Thanks! I got my nose pierced too last month @monicacat, I love it. I just need to pluck up the nerve to go through the tongue swelling and recovery stage again now. I have a vivid memory of attempting to eat a curry pot noodle the day after it was done and getting completely tangled up, it's put me off pot noodles for life.

I've had one for years and my teeth are fine. Go for it. I'm nearly 40 and considering my first tattoo

Mofomo · 02/01/2022 10:31

It's your body your choice but what is the reason exactly, sorry to be dim, someone told me once it was for sexual reasons??!

BigYellowHat · 02/01/2022 10:36

They look horrid and chavvy.

HPLikecraft · 02/01/2022 10:46

Go ahead, OP, life is very short.

I’m going to get my nose pierced for the first time soon. I’m 53.

Tryagainplease · 02/01/2022 10:47

Go for it!
I don’t think we live in a society where people think you’re ‘too old’ to do stuff like this anymore.
I’m a couple of years younger than you and considering having some more tattoos!
