To want a tongue piercing at 39

Just this really! I had it done in a moment of madness when I was 17, loved it and kept it in for years. I stupidly took it out when I started teaching in a bid to look more responsible. I'm sure I've spent too long over the last few days watching 90s music videos and reminiscing over my lost youth, but I've had the sudden urge to get my tongue re-pierced. I've got young children, am on a break from teaching and I think the approach towards my 40s has hit me like a ton of bricks. As far as mid-life crisises go it could be worse couldn't it?

Ok, so I take back what I've said about people seeing your tongue piercing. I've just read that it depends on the piece of jewellery that you have. So if you have a big barbell, it would be very noticeable but if you have a small one, then it isn't so bad.

I'm a big fan of piercings (I have 14!) but mine are very discreet and I do not have any facial piercings (which I despise). It's your decision OP, if you like it then go for it.

@RachAnneKirl90

Why would you do that? What are you trying to prove?
Maybe they like it? I know a number of people with tattoos and piercings. They're not trying to "prove" anything, they have them because they like them and want them.

@stevieknits

Wow I think that's pretty much unanimous and you've all helped make up my mind to go for it! Thanks! I got my nose pierced too last month *@monicacat*, I love it. I just need to pluck up the nerve to go through the tongue swelling and recovery stage again now. I have a vivid memory of attempting to eat a curry pot noodle the day after it was done and getting completely tangled up, it's put me off pot noodles for life.
Reading this just made my whole body flush in reaction. Why would you put yourself through that?!

I could never do this. Maybe it’s related to my trypophobia.

PickAChew · 03/01/2022 23:20

I'd say yes because I think they look shit but it's not like you can't take it out again when you realise that it adds nothing to your life without the frission of parental disapproval.

Dd had her tongue pierced last month, she's 24. She had strange speech for a few days until the swelling went down . Now looking at and listening to her you wouldn't know she'd had it done.

If "parental disapproval" was what dd was after, she was disappointed, I find her choices in life to be fascinating. She had her nipples pierced at 18.

Dd is an accountant, so I can't see a piercing holding her back!

MamaWeasel · 03/01/2022 23:36

@SIB09 I agree with you and all, but methinks you're on the wrong thread!

downinaholeinchains · 03/01/2022 23:37

You want it, so do it ❤️❤️

Kitkat151 · 03/01/2022 23:42

@BigYellowHat

They look horrid and chavvy.
I think this too😂 but it’s OPs body and she is entitled to do exactly as she pleases
lastchristmasigaveyoumyheart · 03/01/2022 23:43

You've just reminded me to put my tongue bar back in! I took it out for a dentist appointment and I hadn't put it back in as they are not good for your teeth. Even my plastic one I occasionally bit and it has damaged my teeth. But, I love it so much, I've decided I'm going to wear it once a week so the hole won't heal.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 03/01/2022 23:49

It involves a needle and your tongue. A needle! In your tongue!

I shall now go and quietly faint with the horror.

(I don’t like ouchy things.)

MamaWeasel · 03/01/2022 23:51

Apparently they pierce from underneath to top, not as I imagined it at all!

Hankunamatata · 03/01/2022 23:53

Iv always fancied one but been too worried about damaging my teeth

sweetkitty · 04/01/2022 00:09

Go for it, if you like it it’s your body do it.

I’m 46 and I think this year will be the year for my first tattoo. I have 10 piercings in total which I love may add to them too.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 04/01/2022 00:14

Go for it, why not?!
Really not my thing, would never get one but if you want one, why not?!
You're a grown adult, stop looking for validation from random strangers on the tinterweb and just go get one already lol
