Last week, my mother in law spoke to me and told me social services will be in touch as my child is malnourished (all coz she wouldn’t eat the food that she’d given her). I took it on the chin despite being extremely upset, she’s not malnourished, in fact she’s a couple of pounds over and eats well some days, and some days less so (find me a kid who doesn’t)

I’ve now just had word that unless we take lateral flow tests in the car outside (she wants to watch through the window of said car so she knows we’ve done it) and she won’t let us in to her house tomorrow.

I’ve been super careful with Covid and my hubby tested positive after seeing her when she’d had a close contact trace from a flight so feel it’s a bit pot and kettle.

I don't know why you are going in the first place. She sounds crackers and best avoided.

Is it likely your kids will be that bothered about seeing her? Most children would much prefer to stay home and enjoy their new toys, and I certainly wouldn't be doing a test in front of her, that indicates that not only would she report you to S.S. if she felt like it, but also that she doesn't even trust her own son's word that your LFT's are clear. Like so many others, I'd tell her to fuck right off!

Did you have a normal relationship with her beforehand? That aside, the fact she reported you to SS is a relationship ender for me.

Email the school after Christmas and say that you have an abusive relation. The school should not allow her to collect dd from school or have an access to her at all. If social services do contact you then tell her that your mil is emotionally abusive towards your children.

I'd call her bluff op. Tell her you will be doing it at home and not in the car and if that's not acceptable then you won't be coming over

I'd be happy to suggest that since it's such a worry, let's just not tempt fate this year. Better safe than sorry, etc. And then have a very merry Christmas without her!

Please don't go. Don't reward her horrible behaviour. And don't sacrifice your peace and happiness over someone who has no regard or respect for you. Your kids won't suffer for not having a relationship with her. They don't need someone in their lives who works against their mum. This kind of stuff will rob you of a happy life, we don't have long, don't waste it trying to appease or placate absolute tossers.
