Lived here four years, didn't say anything to them for the first three as intimidated by them and a woman on my own with a child. This year I've tackled them a couple of times, it's unpleasant, I can smell it in my son's room, sort of thing. Always denied st first and then oh ok I'll do my best. Tonight is the strongest I've smelt it in ages, literally it's got in my hall living room, son's room, it's fucking everywhere. So I knock and say look, can you dial it back a bit, blow into a cushion or whatever you do, this isn't nice for me, and the woman (partner of spliffhesd) just starts raging at me, you can't possibly smell anything because we've got this sheet at the door (holding it up), you're mental, he's dying and he needs an operation and he's only had two spliffs, you're a really horrible person [because I was laughing at this point] ...phoned the cops who said they can't come out just for the smell of blow, I said what about shouting in the stairwell, he said he'd note it. This is shit.

Do they rent or own their house? If renting you could report it to their landlord.

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 01:37

We're both ha. I'm just bored of them. I wouldn't normally grass someone but they're taking the piss.

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 01:39

I mean I'm sure he is unwell. But that's because he stops in all day every day smoking spliff. And it's not within my gift to solve. I just don't want my flat to smell of weed.

OP posts:
Christoncrutches · 22/12/2021 01:55

How come it comes into your flat? Have you tried an air purifier in the affected rooms? £20 on amazon...

DahliaBlue · 22/12/2021 02:01

If he needs it for medical reasons YABU.

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 02:04

It comes out under their front door and in under my front door. It's an apartment block. From my front door it gets into our hall, my son's bedroom and living room as these are the first two rooms off the hall. I haven't tried an air purifier because I'm not the one smoking. Also because as I understand they don't actually remove blim.

CoffeeRunner · 22/12/2021 02:04

We've lived in our house for 11 years. Both neighbours smoke it.

Very occasionally we can smell it in the house. Mostly it's when the kitchen or lounge windows are open. Every single day any visitor to our house would smell weed as they smoke it by their front doors. These are "normal" families by the way. On one side it's the dad of the family who smokes & on the other it's the owners daughter & her partner (late 20s).

Both families are far from anyone's image of troublesome drug addicts.

I'm actually sad my kids have grown up smelling weed as the norm. In all other respects it is a lovely place to live, but yes the weed smell is vile.

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 02:06

He doesn't fucking need it for medical reasons. He's a spliff head. He smokes spliff night and day which is why he is unwell. His dealers come in my apartment block. He has no medical needs apart from being a fucking addict.

OP posts:
TooBigForMyBoots · 22/12/2021 02:08

Report to the landlord.

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 02:12

Yeah I think I will. I feel sad about doing it because like I say previously when I've spoken to them about it we've gone from denial to admission and saying they'll try better so I thought I was making progress. But tonight her waving her shitty fucking blim barrier sheet at me and shouting that I couldn't possibly be smelling the weed because of it, when it's in my son's bedroom, has just pissed me off too much. But I also feel worried. As I said, on my own with a kid etc. Fucksakes.

OP posts:
BringUsSomeFrigginPudding · 22/12/2021 02:13

YANBU even if he did need it for medical reasons. If that were the case, they still should try to find a way to stop the smell invading someone else's home, and it seems that they don't really care. It wouldn't excuse her shouting at you, either.

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 02:18

Yeah exactly. Or shaking her stupid fucking sheet at me. Like, if you're having to stuff a sheet against your door clearly you know something is amiss. So just make yourself a wee filter or something, I don't even fucking care, I just don't want it in my apartment.

And if it is for medical reasons it's a strange fucking condition that entails not leaving the flat or having any medical visits to it for four fucking years even though the dealer freely comes and goes. Twat.

How would you know if he never had medical visits or never left his flat? Are you monitoring his home 24/7?

You would hate it where I live where pot is legal and seen as perfectly normal and respectable.

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 02:42

I probably would hate that yeah if people weren't required to take steps to prevent their neighbours' kids' bedrooms from smelling of weed. It's just grim. There's things people can do about it too which is the most annoying thing.

But yeah I don't think this loser is dying of lack of weed. His wife is forever bitching about how the vents are blowing out toxic substances and the roof is full of creatures and lifts in the wind etc, this narrative that he's dying of some unspecified cause that requires no treatment or medicine apart from spliff is just more paranoid boring stoner bullshit.

OP posts:
Hydrate · 22/12/2021 02:50

A beta air purifier will help. Too bad they are so hostile, you could suggest they get one. Or suggest at least they vape it, it won't stink so much.

Propagandalf · 22/12/2021 03:04

OP, your first 4 words were - "Lived here four years"

Either:

a) it's not an issue
b) you should have reported it 4 years ago

RobertSmithsLipstick · 22/12/2021 03:11

Buy 2 air purifiers, one for you and one for them.
What is the point in not doing something that could help with the smell if you find it repulsive.
Its like leaving a pile of vomit on your floor because someone else did it.

R0tational · 22/12/2021 03:11

OP explained a few times she is a lone parent and fears escalating matters with druggged up neighbours @Propagandalf

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 03:15

Yeah this is part of the problem that I didn't say anything previously, was intimidated as thought they must know people can smell it (it is very obvious) but they just don't care so I probably shouldn't mess, woman on her own, dealers coming and going in the building etc, I still feel nervous now.

Agree it would be so much better if he vaped. Or just got a personal filter. Anything really so it doesn't come into my apartment.

It's weird that just as it seems the whole world is going, eeww, smoking, that's so bad you must never do it, they are simultaneously going, well, bit of weed, it's all fine, no harm done.

OP posts:
Saoirse82 · 22/12/2021 03:44

YABU, its their home and they are free to do as they please. The cops don't care about someone smoking a bit of weed in their house, they have actual crimes to deal with. You don't actually know his medical history so you don't know whether it's for medical reasons, my sister has hydrocephalus and has a shunt that over drains and leaves her with agonising headaches so she uses it for pain relief as nothing else helps, she looks fine on the outside, you wouldn't know she had a chronic pain condition just like you know nothing of your neighbours health situation.

Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 03:47

Just for reference it's a non smoking block. Big signs on the communal doors. So they're not free to do as they please at all. They're not supposed to be smoking anything, much less weed.

OP posts:
Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 03:48

(Most self contained apartment complexes in the UK are non smoking.)

OP posts:
Itisileclair · 22/12/2021 03:50

God, I'm so worried about this. Can't believe I'm still awake at four am. I've got to get up for work in a couple of hours!

OP posts:
Lauren0902 · 22/12/2021 03:55

Report to the HA. I've had to do this before and they came out and had a word with them. It didn't stop entirely, but it did improve

Meowwwwwww · 22/12/2021 03:56

It’s amazing how you hate these people and yet you know every single place they have or haven’t been in the past four years.. You’ve even somehow gained access to this man’s medical records! That’s a seriously unhealthy level of obsession.

If you actually cared about the smell in your son’s room you would try an air purifier but you are clearly enjoying the anger and blame too much. Good luck with that.
