Lived here four years, didn't say anything to them for the first three as intimidated by them and a woman on my own with a child. This year I've tackled them a couple of times, it's unpleasant, I can smell it in my son's room, sort of thing. Always denied st first and then oh ok I'll do my best. Tonight is the strongest I've smelt it in ages, literally it's got in my hall living room, son's room, it's fucking everywhere. So I knock and say look, can you dial it back a bit, blow into a cushion or whatever you do, this isn't nice for me, and the woman (partner of spliffhesd) just starts raging at me, you can't possibly smell anything because we've got this sheet at the door (holding it up), you're mental, he's dying and he needs an operation and he's only had two spliffs, you're a really horrible person [because I was laughing at this point] ...phoned the cops who said they can't come out just for the smell of blow, I said what about shouting in the stairwell, he said he'd note it. This is shit.

Have you community policing ? If so mention it to them especially the dealers turning up.

We had an issue on our street and the community police started keeping an eye out. Dealers were known to the police, this added evidence to their activities and the drugs team dealt with them, neighbour had his house raided.

Juniper68 · 22/12/2021 08:43

YANBU my next door neighbours smoke it. Terraced house and it seeps in. But that isn't why I reported them. It's because they did it with dcs one of which was 2 year old. Plus he screamed and swore at the youngest all the time. So dope wasn't that relaxing Hmm

Dcs aren't there now? The smell isn't as strong but I might get one of those air purifiers?

Good luck op.

TheFlis12345 · 22/12/2021 08:50

If it’s coming in under the front door, wouldn’t a draft excluder help? Even a rolled up towel could make a difference.

GeidiPrimes · 22/12/2021 08:55

Suggest they use a vape similar to a Pax or a Sapphire? Zero smell then. Much better for his bad chest too.

Karwomannghia · 22/12/2021 09:00

Sounds grim, I can’t stand the smell or the desperate attempts to legitimise being a stoner. Could also potentially be a fire hazard. Sounds like reporting to HA might help.

JudyGemstone · 22/12/2021 09:07

It’s our weird national habit of mixing it with tobacco thats the problem. The tobacco smoke makes it cling and sit heavy in the air.

If he got a vape there’s no way you’d be able to smell it, and yes much better for his health.

He’s most likely addicted to the tobacco though, weed itself may be dependency forming but it is not addictive in itself - as in you won’t physically cluck for it if you stop.

Maybe approach them again when everyone’s calm, apologise for arguing and see how they’d feel about switching to vaping? You can buy cheap ones for £30 odd, although my Pax cost me £150!

Sh05 · 22/12/2021 09:19

I've only read your updates op but the police won't do anything. They'll tell you unless there is dealing going on openly it's not a matter for the police to deal with.
If they were Tennant's you could call the landlord but I don't see that they are from your posts.
We had similar, the only place that didn't stink was the bathroom because of the extractor fan!

GeidiPrimes · 22/12/2021 10:22

I love my Pax. Do you like yours JudyGemstone?

Jossbow · 22/12/2021 11:43

Report to the landlord/housing authority or whoever.

meanwhile put a good old fshined draught excluder at the bottom of your door, or a rolled up old towel to prevent ingress

@Contactmap I don't usually reply to arsey replies buy in your case as your obviously special. My CCTV recorded people dropping off weed for my neighbors ect. I reported every single one with their car reg. If potheads and druggies don't like it tough shit. Your disgusting habit affects me I'll act on it. Happy now?

Perfectly happy thanks, but you sound miserable.

Doesn’t your apartment have smoke detectors?

JudyGemstone · 22/12/2021 13:18

@GeidiPrimes

I love my Pax. Do you like yours JudyGemstone?
Yeah it’s great, got the Pax3 in sage. Have always bought cheaper but ended up replacing them, false economy obviously!
mumda · 22/12/2021 13:26

HA so report to them.

And keep doing so.

1forAll74 · 22/12/2021 13:31

My son used to have a lodger who smoked weed a lot, his place is roomy and the lodger was in a far off room. When ever I visited my son, I could smell the weed as soon as I got out of my car , quite away from the house,as he has lots of parking space. Once inside the house, the stench of weed hit you,, some people don't seem to mind the smell, but it affects me, as in watering eyes, and sneezing etc. And then back at home,my clothes reeked of the weed smell,

i dont think the police are bothered about anyone who smokes weed at home., unless they are growing it, and maybe selling it.

Nidan2Sandan · 22/12/2021 13:36

Medical cannabis isnt smoked, and doesnt smell so no doubt he is using illegal drugs.

But, the police dont have the resources to deal with reports of smoking and the landlord powers are extremely limited when it comes to dealing with it.

You could try calling environmental health to report noxious smells, and they will ask you to keep a diary for a few weeks before they will investigate.

Otherwise, I think you just have to try to manage the smells in your home. Thick draft excluders etc.

IncompleteSenten · 22/12/2021 13:36

Do they think you are psychic?
How else would you know to go round if you couldn't smell it ffs? 🙄

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 22/12/2021 13:38

I can’t believe that some people are voting YABU , of course you are not! Report to HA . They are NOT free to do as they please when it affects others so much, especially if it is a non- smoking block. They are extremely selfish.

Nidan2Sandan · 22/12/2021 13:46

@Itisileclair I work in ASB for a HA and deal with this kind of thing daily if you want to message me and have a more detailed chat Smile

ZittiEBuoni · 22/12/2021 13:53

Even if it is for pain relief, why does he have to smoke it? There are other ways to ingest.

caringcarer · 22/12/2021 14:02

I am a LL and one of my tenants smoked so much dope in non smoking lease house it got into curtains, carpets and stank put whole house. Turns put nothing we could do. Lucky they have gone now but had to have intense deep clean that cost over £300 as all carpets had to.be cleaned and a smoke bomb thing in lounge.

Chloemol · 22/12/2021 14:03

@DahliaBlue

If he needs it for medical reasons YABU.
No she is not. It’s horrible to have to smell it, it’s like cigarette smoke, no one would be expected to tolerate that coming in from next door

There are other medications he can take to help control his illness

I would report to the HA and ask them to deal with it

Malibuismysecrethome · 22/12/2021 14:05

I think they are probably growing their own supply or smoking skunk which is a vile smell for it to be all over your home like this

OneTC · 22/12/2021 14:14

Have you got shared extractors or something?

Sounds unlikely that much gets under your door and it's more likely to be coming in another way. You mentioned vents earlier and in our block you can tell what our neighbours are cooking at any point and it comes via the vents

If there's not going to be any other resolution then maybe investigate if these can be blocked up or filtered somehow
