Lived here four years, didn't say anything to them for the first three as intimidated by them and a woman on my own with a child. This year I've tackled them a couple of times, it's unpleasant, I can smell it in my son's room, sort of thing. Always denied st first and then oh ok I'll do my best. Tonight is the strongest I've smelt it in ages, literally it's got in my hall living room, son's room, it's fucking everywhere. So I knock and say look, can you dial it back a bit, blow into a cushion or whatever you do, this isn't nice for me, and the woman (partner of spliffhesd) just starts raging at me, you can't possibly smell anything because we've got this sheet at the door (holding it up), you're mental, he's dying and he needs an operation and he's only had two spliffs, you're a really horrible person [because I was laughing at this point] ...phoned the cops who said they can't come out just for the smell of blow, I said what about shouting in the stairwell, he said he'd note it. This is shit.

Been there, done that we ended up moving and 2 months afterwards she got evicted. The police or council did nothing, but if you are HA they may do more.

Tenant also absolutely trashed the place and I had zero interest when the landlord complained to me about the state of the place. I just replied if you had inspected when we told you what was going on then maybe you could of evicted her sooner. She didn't talk to us again (no loss).

Moving to our new house was the best thing we ever did.

LittleGwyneth · 22/12/2021 14:43

Is the person living there actually dying and using the weed as pain relief? If so I think I'd struggle to be a dick about it.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 22/12/2021 14:43

Whether it's morally right or wrong to smoke it, the fact is that it does stink, and you have to consider them when you live close by.

SphincterSaysWhat · 22/12/2021 17:54

Only on MN would the OP be told he's being unreasonable and that SHE should sort it out by buying an air purifier.

OP, this isn't cool for you. I'm sorry...

TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek · 23/12/2021 07:14

OP you really have my sympathy, and I hope you have had a proper nights rest this last night?

I hope I don't upset you now, but I wanted to just point out to you and other pp's that I believe medical cannabis in the UK can only be legally supplied to people with MS (I know that some people who have Epilepsy have been allowed to have something that is usually illegal, supplied as well, but I can't remember if that is Cannabis or not?)

I have several conditions and disabilities, some of which cause extreme pain, and one has very similar symptoms to MS. I have been on some very strong Opioids for years now, and have to take other tablets to counteract the worst side effects of the Opioids (but nothing can rid me of the constant exhaustion, caused partly by my Opioids and partly by my illnesses).

Some people who have one or more of the same conditions that I do smoke Cannabis. These are often not people who mix in circles where it is easy to get all sorts of illegal drugs, and they are usually not well enough to traipse around the streets trying to find someone to sell them some, so they send out their older children or grandchildren to get some for them - I find that unacceptable on so many levels.
They don't know anyone who will bake the Cannabis into cakes for them instead of selling it as cigarettes.

On the rare occassions when I can force myself to go out (in my wheelchair) I need to already be topped up with my painkillers, and I think my body must produce a short term shock of Adrenaline to make the trip (no whatsit meant!) possible. Anyway, when friends and family members see me, they nearly always say how well I am looking, which is terribly frustrating when it is only for a few hours, if they came to see me that evening, or within the next few days, they would see how unwell I actually look.

The people I kmow who smoke Cannabis when they can get hold of it, can drastically cut down on their other pain relief, and on the tablets that they take to counteract the worst side-effects of those tablets. I very strongly believe that Cannabis should be given much more frequently for prople with chronic, incredibly painful conditions. I think that it would cut down a lot on the Opioids given, and on the other tablets given because of the Opioids. I have no idea if Cannabis could replace a lot of Steroid usage for crippling pain, but if it could that would be amazing too.

So please OP, and other pp's on here, don't think that you can always tell whether someone has a very painful, or even life limiting disease, as you really can't just by looking at them for a few hours.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 23/12/2021 07:32

@mumda

HA so report to them.

And keep doing so.

Definitely this, the HA won't look kindly on this. I can't believe the amount of inconsiderate arseholes on here making you out to be the bad guy in this situation. I say this as an ex stoner too. I'd have been mortified if I'd bothered someone else with my habit. (I grew up by the way Wink )
andalltheboats · 23/12/2021 07:45

@TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek Cannabis is legal for many medical conditions in the UK since 2018/9 I think it was. There are quite a few clinics. They are private though and the cost is prohibitive to most who want to try this form of treatment. It has way less side effects for me than my other medications too, but I can't afford to go to the clinic so unfortunately like you I just put up with awful side effects from other meds.

I don't know what OP can do about the smell though, can see why that might be annoying however the unrelated vitriol is really coming through from the post. Where I live (housing estate) I don't think anyone cares about the smell. Presuming the neighbours open windows?? The smell dissipates quickly in the open air.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 23/12/2021 08:03

If only someone could grow a non smelly weed...

Tirediam · 23/12/2021 08:17

YANBU. I would feel the same

Sorry @andalltheboats, I didn't realise that if you went private you could get it for a lot of conditions now. Thanks for the up-date, but as I can't afford it either, it only really serves to frustrate me that the NHS is sadly no longer fit for purpose, or all who needed medicines like this could have them however little their income may be. The really stupid thing is that if we had legitimate Cannabis farms in this country the NHS would probably save a fortune on the Opiates etc that they prescribe at present, and there would be far less criminals dealing in drugs like Cannabis.

I do feel sorry for the OP for both her original problem with her neighbours, and the depth of the lack of understanding of her predicament here on mumsnet. I am also wondering if her neighbour is actually a grower/dealer himself, as I don't think that people selling drugs usually go around to peoples homes selling them, I thought it was much more likely if someone, in say a block of flats, got a lot of visitors everyday, that the person being visited was more likely to be either a prostitute or a drug dealer - mind you most of my information either comes from reality tv police programmes, or tv dramas! But when I have seen the police raid Cannabis farms in peoples homes, heavy plastic sheets are often used, both to keep the plants warm enough, and to try to stop the smell seeping out. I think that the OP mentioned that her neighbour had a plastic sheet across the doorway?

maddy68 · 23/12/2021 23:16

How does it come.into your flat? Surely they can do what they like in their own premises? (TBF I live in a country where weed is legal so is commonplace)
I'm very sure that you akdi Di things that irritate them.

Live and let live try smoking a joint and chill a little ;)

DixonD · 23/12/2021 23:19

@Itisileclair

It comes out under their front door and in under my front door. It's an apartment block. From my front door it gets into our hall, my son's bedroom and living room as these are the first two rooms off the hall. I haven't tried an air purifier because I'm not the one smoking. Also because as I understand they don't actually remove blim.
Draft excluder under your front door?
DixonD · 23/12/2021 23:21

*draught, sorry!

Itisileclair · 23/12/2021 23:40

Thanks for all the responses. I've spoken to the housing officer and he said he's had complaints about the fumes from other neighbours but they weren't sure where they were coming from so he's pleased he's got a definite apartment number now. He's going to send a letter out to everyone reminding them that it's a no smoking block and also that it's still a class b drug so they shouldn't be doing it. If that doesn't work he'll have a word but it won't just be on behalf of me but also others so I'm a lot less worried than I was. Re the medical argument, maybe there is a fatal lung condition that is alleviated by smoking spliff all day every day for four years but given the other batshit paranoid crap this woman beels up on a regular basis I doubt that that's what's going on here and even if it is, they need to get a filter or vape or something, there's no need in 2021 for anyone to be burning herbs like this.

Glad you're getting some support. I hope it ceases soon.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 24/12/2021 09:19

@DahliaBlue

If he needs it for medical reasons YABU.
Come on! You don't really believe that, do you??
Ameanstreakamilewide · 24/12/2021 09:28

Exactly.

I think some people would argue black was white just to be a contrary arsehole.

Sh05 · 24/12/2021 09:43

I complained to the letting agency and they realized that the tenant had broken other tenancy agreements as well. It took about 3 weeks from my final complaint to them leaving but now we have a lovely family with young kids next door.
It's so good to not wake up to the smell of stale weed!? Every morning

Itisileclair · 24/12/2021 20:26

Ah that's great.

Tbh I don't really want these guys to lose their tenancy - we're all secure tenants so it's a lot to take away from someone. I just don't want my flat and especially my son's bedroom having weed fumes in it. Plus the denial/timewasting batshittery is annoying.

DogsandCatsB4u · 24/12/2021 21:13

Have the same issue, police won’t do anything, if your HA is decent (not Peabody) then they will write to them
