Lifelong Sainsbury's customer here but over the past 4-5 years or so I've really noticed a dive in the quality and value of their food. These days even their premium Taste the Difference range barely carries any flavour but still seems to attach a whacking great price tag.

Randomly stopped off at my local Morrisons today to grab some snacks and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their own-brand products. Lots of choice and a longer shelf-life than I've seen in Sainsburys for quite some time. A few big brand treats such as alcohol advertised at 70% of the prices I've seen elsewhere.

Considering switching to do the full weekly shop here now and would love to hear from others with recommendations of any products worth a try (or if there is anything I should be steering clear of!!)

We eat mostly vegetarian on weekdays and keep meat/fish for the weekends.

Their fruit and veg and meat are very good. I’d say the best of all the supermarkets.

Aside from that:

Their Mexican quad dip thing
Ketchup
Brittany salted butter
Their best pizzas
Baked beans

Devonchills · 14/12/2021 21:45

The doughnuts.

ISeeTheLight · 14/12/2021 21:50

All their fresh stuff. Fresh meat, fish (if you're lucky there's a fishmongers), deli, fruit, veg. Their bread is fantastic - especially the pick and mix buns (the croissants are superb; best I've found in a British supermarket) and the "the best" sourdough breads. Also the doughnuts.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/12/2021 21:51

I don’t like their bread.

Chakraleaf · 14/12/2021 21:51

Donuts!

Suzanne999 · 14/12/2021 21:52

Their nutr ilks are very good value. Own brand ones and they occasionally have Alpro at 3 for £3.

Suzanne999 · 14/12/2021 21:52

Nut milks

InTheLabyrinth · 14/12/2021 21:53

Donuts!

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 14/12/2021 21:54

They sell the Chovi Allioli (yellow pot) which is delicious.

georgarina · 14/12/2021 21:55

Their deli chicken is great and v good value - 80p for three drumsticks vs 1.80 for two at Sainsbury's

MorningNinja · 14/12/2021 21:56

Brittany butter

Fruit scones - the square ones with sugar on top in the bakery selection

The cheapest own brand tortilla chips

Jalapeno jam

HermioneWeasley · 14/12/2021 21:59

Their meat and fish is excellent, particularly cuts of beef.

Fresh cream palmiers

At the moment their “best” range mince pies, stollen and Yule log (I am so fat!)

Savers Jaffa cakes

And yes, the Brittany butter

Their fresh bakery stuff is great, and the party food is fab. We don't live that near a morrisons, I'd have to drive about 6 miles and go past something like 9 other supermarkets to get there, but their tear and share camembert bread is amazing so I'll be doing that!

Hodl · 14/12/2021 22:03

Salt and pepper bread rolls. Yum yum yum!

Agadorsparticus · 14/12/2021 22:04

Steak pies in the deli are fab.

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 14/12/2021 22:05

Lemon cake @£1 a slice... Mmmmmmmmmm

Bobbybobbins · 14/12/2021 22:06

I think their meat, fish, bakery, deli, fruit and veg are great. I think the more exotic food items are a bit more limited than in some supermarkets.

Neighneigh · 14/12/2021 22:08

They do pickled garlic in a jar [possibly not the answer you are looking for!]

Also their fish, they have much more choice than other supermarkets

NMC2022 · 14/12/2021 22:08

The beetroot and something bread, it's in the loose rolls section. I don't like beetroot Grin but this toasted with Philadelphia is amazing
Also the salt and pepper bread french stick

Rhannion · 14/12/2021 22:09

My dh is very choosy when it comes to meat but says Morrison’s meat is excellent and good value. Their fruit and nut mixes are great.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 14/12/2021 22:09

Salt and pepper bread.

Discovered Morrisons when moved north years ago and honestly Sainsbury's is no better, for some reason it is just still assumed to be more 'up market'. The city I live in has the big stores in which they try out various things, however the fresh market street products have always been good. Absoultley the best fish counter in any supermarket, bakery, deli and meat counters also great. The salad bar used to be good but since covid very limited. Otherwise they stock most products and their own brand is as good as anywhere else

MyCatIsAFuckwit · 14/12/2021 22:17

Meat
Fish
Cheese
Fruit and veg
Cosmetics/beauty
Flowers and plants
....all great, I am a newly converted Morrisons fan 😀

user1471443411 · 14/12/2021 22:17

Fresh bread cobs (assuming they have a bakery, not all of them do)
Fresh cream cakes and strawberry tarts (good value and more homemade style than other supermarkets)
All meat, except for the cheapest stewing steak which we had once and was full of tubes.
Pizzas from the pizza counter (they do gluten free ones too) and cornish pasties from the pie counter.

Smallkeys · 14/12/2021 22:17

I agree meat etc best at Morrison’s in particular their butchers mince it’s a better texture and flavour over the other prepacked
