Lifelong Sainsbury's customer here but over the past 4-5 years or so I've really noticed a dive in the quality and value of their food. These days even their premium Taste the Difference range barely carries any flavour but still seems to attach a whacking great price tag.

Randomly stopped off at my local Morrisons today to grab some snacks and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their own-brand products. Lots of choice and a longer shelf-life than I've seen in Sainsburys for quite some time. A few big brand treats such as alcohol advertised at 70% of the prices I've seen elsewhere.

Considering switching to do the full weekly shop here now and would love to hear from others with recommendations of any products worth a try (or if there is anything I should be steering clear of!!)

We eat mostly vegetarian on weekdays and keep meat/fish for the weekends.

Oh and the cream and lemon/jam filled muffins they're huge and delicious!

JackieWeaversZoomAc · 14/12/2021 22:22

Their sourdough loaf bread is fab. Best supermarket sourdough IMO

LittleRoundRobin · 14/12/2021 22:22

Sausage and bean melt - in the freezers. They're the same as the Greggs one. Also their white chocolate raspberry ice creams! Lots of their own frozen and fridge meals are nice too. Especially their Indian curries!

comeundone · 14/12/2021 22:22

They do nice frozen samosas, and fresh fish is as others have said decent (I'm pesce so no idea about meat). For delivery we found the subs/not in stock a bit more frequent and annoying than Sainsbury but that will be down to the store not mozzas as a whole. Back in the day I used to buy sweet pastries but have been attempting to lose weight so less of those of late Smile

Smallkeys · 14/12/2021 22:23

Oh and I like their bakery granary bread loaf sliced .

Ragwort · 14/12/2021 22:23

Totally agree that their meat is excellent- we have a very nice, artisan butcher in our town that people rave about - quite honestly Morrisons meat is better (& a third of the price). They seem to be one of the few supermarkets that have maintained fresh fish, meat & deli counters.

Fruit & veg always good.

Our local Morrisons is outstanding for its community involvement as well - incredibly generous and supportive.

Mimilamore · 14/12/2021 22:25

Their natural peanut butter, best I've had... and their pies 🐽

Doingtheboxerbeat · 14/12/2021 22:26

Chilli cheese dip.
I have it on the side with chilli con carnie and salad. No rice or pasta or bread - low carbing.

StormyTeacups · 14/12/2021 22:27

We have shopped with them for a while. More online recently as our local store is a bit of a pain to get to.

Not as wide a selection of niche things as some, but very good quality.

If you shop in-store they seem to be very good on limiting plastic at delis etc, very happy to fill own containers etc

maddening · 14/12/2021 22:29

I think the bakery will be unique to the stores as ours does great bread.

I mostly stick to sainsburys (sainsburys fresh soup is better than any of the other supermarkets) but will swing into asda or morrisons for quick shops.

Asda has best price for coke zero.
Morrisons fine,
Sainsburys has better choices as a veggie ime

buzzy1 · 14/12/2021 22:29

They do the best pitta breads ..I go there especially to stock up on it.

OhWhyNot · 14/12/2021 22:30

The bread is really good

Especially the Tiger bread

RedRec · 14/12/2021 22:32

They do great pies. And pizzas.

Offmyfence · 14/12/2021 22:32

@Hodl

Salt and pepper bread rolls. Yum yum yum!
I wish these (or my BMI does) had never been discovered by me!
MrsSkylerWhite · 14/12/2021 22:33

Tarte au Citron. Lovely.

Rosscameasdoody · 14/12/2021 22:33

I really like the strawberry donuts. They do nice pies too - fresh on the bakery. I love their salt and pepper rolls and their thick sliced oat bread is fab. Ours has a nice salad bar - serve yourself - and a good fish counter too. Roast in the bag chicken, and their own brand ‘the best’ loose tea.

londonrach · 14/12/2021 22:36

Cheese. And onion rolls...tbh their bread is amazing!!! In our store it's made by a baker who had over 20 years experience..he did amazing harvest plated bread with mice and corn etc on...vvv impressed. Veg, fruit good as is the meat and the salmon for £2.95.

londonrach · 14/12/2021 22:38

I love the amazing community involvement in store too...there a free library and a community room which can be rented for free to name two of loads of things they do...staff are lovely too ..need to do a shoebox for Xmas...given to local child

JackieWeaversZoomAc · 14/12/2021 22:39

After years of using Method concentrate laundry stuff they discontinued it. I hate fragranced laundry stuff. Now I use Morrison's own brand laundry powder. £2.50 Ish for a big box & it's fantastic. Very little scent too.

I usually shop lidl/aldi with top up shops. Morrison's is my preferred supermarket over tesco & Sainsbury's these days.

HolidayTime2021 · 14/12/2021 22:40

Fish- much better than Waitrose and cheaper.

Levithian · 14/12/2021 22:40

Pizza twists from the bakery. Too wonderful.

DataColour · 14/12/2021 22:42

Our Morrison's has a fish counter that is fab. 2 for £5 on whole sea bream is a regular buy. Their 100%pure peanut butter is the best, lovely roast flavour.

RocketSurgeon · 14/12/2021 22:43

Their Steamed salmon Fillets from the fridge (2 Fillets in a pack for £3.95) are perfectly cooked!

Really easy to add to a salad for a quick nutritious and very very tasty meal.

Practicebeingpatient · 14/12/2021 22:48

The Morrisons near us sell bags pre-filled with things the local food bank want. You pay for them with your shopping and then leave them at a collection point on your way out. It's a very easy way to donate.

Their own brand Muscadet wine is lovely. I also like the frozen parsnips, just plain peeled parsnips without any glaze or flavourings and they roast beautifully. I have two bags in the freezer for Christmas Day.

I agree about the high quality of their fresh meat and vegetables.

PastramiNoRye · 14/12/2021 22:49

Their pesto-topped hummus is really good!
