Lifelong Sainsbury's customer here but over the past 4-5 years or so I've really noticed a dive in the quality and value of their food. These days even their premium Taste the Difference range barely carries any flavour but still seems to attach a whacking great price tag.

Randomly stopped off at my local Morrisons today to grab some snacks and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their own-brand products. Lots of choice and a longer shelf-life than I've seen in Sainsburys for quite some time. A few big brand treats such as alcohol advertised at 70% of the prices I've seen elsewhere.

Considering switching to do the full weekly shop here now and would love to hear from others with recommendations of any products worth a try (or if there is anything I should be steering clear of!!)

We eat mostly vegetarian on weekdays and keep meat/fish for the weekends.

They have the best selection of Limoux

MeredithGreyishblue · 14/12/2021 22:49

Meat - not all same-weight packed rubbish. Different cuts and offal.
Cakes!
Crusty sandwich baguettes

honeybeesknees · 14/12/2021 22:49

Their big deli pots of chilli and garlic olives are amazing! Really good value, and delicious.

Elzbells · 14/12/2021 22:53

Lobster Mac & Cheese - it's insane, think restaurant quality.

I find the pre packed chickens a bit too full of water, they taste slimey to me when cooked and swimming with water in the roasting tray.

Butcher stuff is usually excellent and the fish is also better than any other supermarket.

MissDollyMix · 14/12/2021 22:55

Pita bread, fresh sourdough, salt and pepper fresh bread, actually most of their bakery items! Agree that their fresh meat is great quality and so much choice if more unusual cuts that other supermarkets don’t sell. Their fresh fruit and veg is always really nice quality too. Morrisons click and collect service was my saviour during lockdown, I found it quite a lot more expensive that my regular Aldi or Tesco but they often send vouchers for £5 off.

DancinOnTheCeiling · 14/12/2021 23:00

Some of their free from section is great, like gluten free chocolate brownies

jamfirstcreamsecond · 14/12/2021 23:05

Two words. Biscoff Pizza... Only available in stores with pizza counter though.

splishsplashsploshsplishsplash · 14/12/2021 23:05

The salt and pepper bread!!! Amazing toasted with marmite on, or dipped in soup, or just with butter on! I want some now!

Thisbastardcomputer · 14/12/2021 23:06

The £1.50 mince pies are amazing, 2 packs for £2, they are honestly the best I've ever had.

TheGoogleMum · 14/12/2021 23:24

The pitta breads are great. We generally find fruit good there and I'm a fan of the double chocolate cookies!

Jules58 · 14/12/2021 23:45

They do a lovely big quiche with bacon on top, it's very tasty. The meat is always very good and quite reasonable. I must agree with you about Sainsbury's unfortunately. It's not like it use to be.

ThatsAllFolks · 15/12/2021 04:06

Freezer. Parathas. Itsu gyoza, inc veg version. Itsu chili miso pot noodles.

Tail ends of fillet steak, lots cheaper than the normal fillet but they are so thick you can often get 3 slices of 1.5 inches out of one tail end. They melt in your mouth.

Their flat blade steak is better than their stewing steak, cooks better & tastes like old fashioned stewing steak.

Is the tail end fillet steak from the butchers or straight off the shelf?

They do a lot of things a lot better than other supermarkets, such as proper in store butchery, and a lot of their sandwiches are made fresh in store, rather than shipped in from a factory.

Their fish counter is also very good and sells a very wide variety of fish - they bought or did a deal with one of the Cornish suppliers affected by Brexit and now sell their fish in store.

They've also really upped their game with cheese, huge selection of unusual cheeses.

Another vote for the pitta breads, totally the best of any supermarket ones. Their sliced seedy bread is also very good.

Ragwort · 15/12/2021 08:23

I recently bought one of their organic corn fed chicken (£13 reduced to £2 Blush ) .... it was amazing, the best chicken I have had in years. Made loads of stock as well ready for the Christmas gravy.

Their 'yellow sticker' bargains can be fantastic if you get there at the right time.

I like in Northern Ireland now and miss Morrisons more than Waitrose! Especially their fat vegan long sausage rolls and 'pork' pies (from bakery)

If you have any dairy free family members their vegan ice cream is delicious and really good value.

Iwishiwereamillionaire · 15/12/2021 18:03

Lobster Mac and cheese! I can’t stop thinking about this… is it still in store? Just checked mine and couldn’t find it Confused

Rexthesnail · 15/12/2021 18:08

Bakery, meat, fruit and veg. But definitely the bakery!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 15/12/2021 18:13

I’m also interested in the lobster mac and cheese.

silverley · 15/12/2021 18:38

I generally think that Morrisons do very well with more old fashioned food? I don't know if that's the right way to phrase it, but if my grandma would have liked it, Morrisons usually do a really good version of it - pork pie, crusty cobs, less common cuts of meat, etc.

For me, their doughnuts are hands down the best out of all the supermarkets. I also love a cream and jam filled muffin.

Serenity45 · 15/12/2021 18:39

Their fig date and grain bio yoghurt (big pot) is lovely - super thick and properly 'grainy' as well as tasting lovely. Morrison's own brand white pitta breads are also good - definitely the fluffiest inside and generally the nicest we've found.

Stuff from the various counters is generally good including things like quiche / kebabs / cheeses

ShinyMe · 15/12/2021 18:42

I don't go to Morrisons often, but they do a GREAT marzipan cake thing, which is some kind of Swedish thing, a giant dome of whipped cream covered in green marzipan. I love it.

ThinWomansBrain · 15/12/2021 18:43

sausage rolls
they often have them with cranberries in at ChristmasSmile

They used to sell them singly, but now only seem to come in packs of 4.

FrenchBoule · 15/12/2021 18:46

Bio Washing powder and liquid- better than Persil.
Dishwasher tabs
Their mayo is better than Hellmanns
Scampi in the freezer section.
Rolls in bakery section- excellent choice of flavours.

It’s my “go to” supermarket for meat.
Good quality of fruit, veg, fish and meat.

I’d struggle to find anything I don’t like.
