I mostly give stuff away as can’t be dealing with hassle.

I prefer to sell things for a little bit of money to put towards the next size up etc.

I'd love to be in a position to give things away all of the time but I'm just not at the moment.

TheVolturi · 11/12/2021 20:03

Cluttery stuff like kids old clothes and toys I give away. And anything large. But any sort of tech I sell.

DukeofEarlGrey · 11/12/2021 20:03

Same. But when I was skint and had plenty of time it was worth selling things. Now I would rather that someone else benefits from them, whether directly or via a charity shop.

FinallySomeNormality · 11/12/2021 20:04

I give away as I find selling a PITA!

PegasusReturns · 11/12/2021 20:05

I give stuff away.
I don’t need the money or the hassle so just glad it goes to a good home.

stairway · 11/12/2021 20:08

I give away unless it’s something of high value. I’ve seen some of my friends try and sell clearly well used kid clothes and shoes. I’m surprised people actually buy these hand me downs.

TuftyMarmoset · 11/12/2021 20:13

I sold some books and DVDs through ziffit and webuybooks as that wasn’t too much hassle to put them in a box and have them collected. But clothes I just donate, I can’t be bothered with listing them all online and photographing etc.

YetAnotherManicMonday1234 · 11/12/2021 20:17

Give unless worth more than say £20 secondhand.

Far too much hassle.

IgneousRock · 11/12/2021 20:22

Generally I give away as I can't be arsed with the hassle of selling. Occasionally sell.

Piglet89 · 11/12/2021 20:25

I sell most stuff on; I’m a bit of an eBay addict.

Always just give away. No matter what it is. I don’t need it anymore and you can have it with pleasure. Delighted for someone else to get use from them.

WhatsWrongWithMyUsername · 11/12/2021 20:33

I give away generally (eg furniture, kids’ big toys ) - someone who gets it free but can pick it up saves me a lot of bother.

But people are also complete time wasters when stuff is free (eg on Facebook marketplace), so sometimes I’ll sell for £10 or so, as then I’m more likely to only have people genuinely interested getting in touch,

MolkosTeenageAngst · 11/12/2021 20:34

I mostly give away as I also can’t be bothered with the hassle of selling.

Chocolatewheatos · 11/12/2021 20:36

I stick most stuff on ebay. It's easy. And pays towards the next size.

GratitudeGoddess · 11/12/2021 20:37

I give away mainly to clothes/shoes banks, friends, charity shops and leave items outside for people to help themselves.

NotJustACigar · 11/12/2021 20:37

I do a bit of both. Mostly give to either a local animal rescue that takes donations or on Olio, but if something will likely go for a tenner or more on Vinted and will be easy to package up I sell.

AtomicBlondeRose · 11/12/2021 20:39

I hate selling stuff - it’s so much hassle and I never feel it’s worth it for the pittance you end up with. Much rather give it to someone who’ll really appreciate it and use it. I gave a bag of good toys (toy food/kitchen stuff/Happyland castle) to the wrap around kids club at my DC’s school and seeing kids playing with it in their Instagram photos makes me really pleased.

CathyorClaire · 11/12/2021 20:41

Sell a bit on eBay, more at a couple of car boots a year then donate anything reasonable that's left to the charity shop.

I buy a lot of DVD's and books from there and donate them back without trying to sell.

Negligee · 11/12/2021 20:42

Give. There’s a good local scheme that matches families with families in direct provision (asylum seekers) who have slightly younger children, so you can pass on toys, clothes etc of the right size and age.

TreeSmuggler · 11/12/2021 20:47

For me the sell threshold would be if I expected to get at least £15 for it. Under that I would give away.

iheartredsquirrels · 11/12/2021 20:49

We sold loads of stuff on ebay for three yeats prior to our move and it covered all our expenses, E.A , conveyencing, removals and stamp duty.
We had A LOT of stuff to go.

ParkheadParadise · 11/12/2021 20:54

I always give stuff away.
I like to give stuff to people who need it.
I gave dd's cot, pram, clothes, toys to a charity that helps young teenage single mums. Year ago I was in that position.
I gave my wedding dress to the local chapel that altered them into first communion dresses for kids that can't afford them.

user1493494961 · 11/12/2021 20:55

I give away.

Wingedharpy · 11/12/2021 20:59

@DDUW : Can you elaborate?
