I mostly give stuff away as can’t be dealing with hassle.

I do a bit of both. I give lots of stuff to my local charity shop but also sell things. I sell things relatively cheap

Recently though, I tried to sell a Stroller, was in excellent condition, selling for £75 in the shops new, I asked for £20. Someone messaged me asking what's the lowest I'd go, I don't barter, the price I write is the price I want and I said £20 to which she replied "oh I was hoping for less, no chance of you taking £5?" Honestly I'd rather give it to a charity shop who could probably sell it for more the a fiver

@Chocolatewheatos

I stick most stuff on ebay. It's easy. And pays towards the next size.
It’s not just sticking it on, though. You have to write a description, put up pics, work out postage, pack it, take it to post office.

I use eBay but I wouldn’t call it easy.

Retrievemysanity · 11/12/2021 21:13

Give away on Olio. It’s been amazing!

DeepaBeesKit · 11/12/2021 21:15

Give. I hate selling stuff. But I am lucky to be able to afford that option.

Titsywoo · 11/12/2021 21:17

@PegasusReturns

I give stuff away. I don’t need the money or the hassle so just glad it goes to a good home.

If I have a larger piece of furniture or a rug that I can’t take to a charity shop in my car, I’ll give it away just to have it hauled off. Smaller items I donate. A few things I’ve sold, like a pair of floor lamps and an elliptical.

TheCanyon · 11/12/2021 21:50

I can't be arsed with selling so usually give away for free. Though a lot of our stuff that we've wanted rid of is our twins old things so pram, car seats, table booster chairs, bouncers, bikes/trikes, clothes etc have been offered free on our twins twin club page. Could have made a fair chunk of cash from that but I honestly just can't be arsed.

Blahdyblahbla · 11/12/2021 21:54

I'll sell something if it'll get say £50 and will be straightforward. Any thing less is usually kids stuff and I know plenty of people who need it, so I give for free.

Yuledo · 11/12/2021 21:55

High value items we sell. The majority, we give away.

StoneofDestiny · 11/12/2021 21:58

Both

DroopyClematis · 11/12/2021 21:58

We give away usual stuff but furniture etc.. we pay the council to collect as they often use it for their depositories for people who are struggling to furnish a home.

traka · 11/12/2021 22:07

Free cycle or the tip

I can't be doing with time wasters on marketplace

I left something on my drive for somebody on free cycle, I said just collect it don't ring the door

TheCreamCaker · 11/12/2021 22:08

I take loads of stuff to charity shops. I once tried selling some brand-new, never-worn girls' clothes on eBay - what a waste of time, people either didn't want to collect them or didn't want to pay the price (half price).

Saracen · 11/12/2021 22:13

I give away because we can afford it and we have a problem with clutter things need to be gone as quickly and easily as possible. I've been bickering with DP for several years about several pieces of furniture which have been blighting the living room for a long time. He wants to sell because they are lovely and he doesn't want to admit that buying them at the car boot sale for a tenner was a mistake - it isn't a bargain if you don't know where to sell it! I just want them gone.

NecklessMumster · 11/12/2021 22:15

I always have a bag for the charity shop on the go. I cba to sell and I don't want to haggle. But don't have much big stuff to sell. When I get the letter from the charity shop saying how much my stuff made for them I do have a pang of 'oh, I could have sold it' but I'm lucky I can give to charity.

Saoirse82 · 11/12/2021 22:18

I give away. But understandably not everyone is in a position to do that.

Kite22 · 11/12/2021 22:22

Give

I'm lucky enough to have been given so much over the years, I like to pass the love on.

Floralnomad · 11/12/2021 22:24

Give it away , selling things is too much hassle unless you actually need the money .

cookiesandtea · 11/12/2021 22:56

I love to give away.

1 for the feeling
2 because I can't be asked to sell stuff

What always gets me is when you see people on your Facebook who live in million pound houses selling stuff I would give to a charity shop for a few pounds. Just give it away ffs.

DramaAlpaca · 11/12/2021 22:58

Give away

JingleJingleAllTheWay · 11/12/2021 22:59

I give away. Its time consuming selling.

ohreallynotreally · 11/12/2021 23:00

I give away…I really cannot be bothered with the hassle of selling. Obviously if I was getting rid of something worth thousands I would sell !

IncessantNameChanger · 11/12/2021 23:05

I do a bit of both. I sold loads on Ebay but then worked out the net profit and stopped as it genuinely wasnt worth the time. I then sold some on vinted which was lively Boden things and got so many complaints about pin dot Mark's I had mentioned in my listings that I took it all off. Selling a £45 Boden dress for £4 and getting moaned at wasnt worth the upset. I try to buy less now and cheaper or second hand to start with and give it away when it no longer fits the kids.

Its ok selling when you need the cash but over time people mostly want something for nothing. But I do like buying second hand kids clothes

Eileen101 · 11/12/2021 23:13

A bit of both.

Sell good brands of children's clothes e.g frugi, JoJo etc. For less valuable brands, I'll make a bundle and list on eBay. I work from home so don't mind a post office trip and I tend to list in batches.
If it doesn't sell, I'll put it in the charity shop bag. I've been clearing out recently and quite a lot in small sizes has gone to charity as there is just so much for sale, there's no point listing it as it's be sat around my house for ages.
I do like to pick up a bundle from eBay for my kids, so I like to think I'm helping keeping that cycle going.

I have a friend who recently had a baby who has shown an interest in my girls stuff so that's getting parcelled up to pass on. definite interest, not one of these threads of "omg 10 bags of baby stuff has been dumped on my doorstep" Grin

General household stuff that I'm getting rid of either goes to the charity shop or on Freecycle (if I can't/don't want to carry it down to the town).
