To call my cat Plum Plum?

Ever since I was a child I have wanted a cat called Plum Plum (Plum for short). DH has finally agreed to get a cat and a tiny ginger kitten is arriving on Christmas Eve. Plum now seems even more appropriate as a festive name but DH is not convinced Grin

I also like Remi but this has been veto-ed. DH likes Alfred and Edward but I think these are much too grand for a tiny, fluffy cat!

So … AIBU to want to call my cat Plum Plum and, if so, what shall I call him?

Plum is ok, plum plum That’s quite embarrassing tbh. But then it’s a cat, so it doesn’t really matter.

hotmeatymilk · 05/12/2021 09:21

Plum Plum is a bit… Testicle Testicle.

AlwaysLatte · 05/12/2021 09:23

Plum is fine, Plum Plum is too far IMO.

ODFOgrinch · 05/12/2021 09:24

Plum is as good a name as any.

I also really like your DHs suggestions.
'Alf! Whiskas!'

It's almost a shame that you can't wait to find out the cat's personality before choosing a name. Some cats are so aloof and independent whereas some are just cuddle bundles!

AngelonTopoftheTree · 05/12/2021 09:24

Plum Plum, nn Plum, is a great name for a cat 😁
I'd never make the testicle connection, not like you're calling the cats Balls Balls.

heldinadream · 05/12/2021 09:24

Plum Plum, Plum for short, His Royal Highness Sir Plumulous Plumther of Plumbville for long.
Sounds good to me. Grin

MintyCedric · 05/12/2021 09:24

@hotmeatymilk

Plum Plum is a bit… Testicle Testicle.
Yeah that was my first thought too.

You know cats should have at least 3 names so maybe a 'proper' one and Plum as a nickname?

FWIW I like Edward...but I'm biased as I have an Edie/Ed/Edward/Eddington/EddyTeddy....or Edith when she's naughty 😁!

LuckyAmy1986 · 05/12/2021 09:24

Plum fine, Plum Plum not so much.

Remi also cute

AwkwardPaws27 · 05/12/2021 09:25

Professor Plum (a la Cluedo)?

WeatherwaxOn · 05/12/2021 09:26

As PPs have said Plum on its own is fine. I was having a discussion with DC and their friend just last night about cat names, and Plum was one we all liked.

inmyslippers · 05/12/2021 09:27

My cats called scout but answers to little
Bitch. I'm sure your cat won't mind being called plum plum

Kamelion · 05/12/2021 09:27

I suggest Barry or Keith.

Nobranothanks · 05/12/2021 09:27

I think plum is awesome! However I shouldn't be listened to as I had a dog called Fanny 😂

MintyCedric · 05/12/2021 09:28

@AwkwardPaws27

Professor Plum (a la Cluedo)?
PC Plum a la Balamory Grin
RavenclawsRoar · 05/12/2021 09:30

Sir Alfred Edward Plum Plum I is the only real compromise here.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 05/12/2021 09:31

Never call a cat anything you can't shout out of the back door. My aunt who is terribly innocent and of another age altogether called her jet black cat black pussy. I used to cringe and die when she called for him.

ineedsun · 05/12/2021 09:31

Plum is too testicley.

Has the name come from somewhere?

Booboobadoo · 05/12/2021 09:31

Brown girl in the ring

Gingerkittycats · 05/12/2021 09:31

@AwkwardPaws27

Professor Plum (a la Cluedo)?
I love this Grin

I didn’t think of the testicle connotations of plum plum! Is plim plim any better? (I’m ever hopeful!)

SageYourResoluteOracle · 05/12/2021 09:32

@MintyCedric I’m loving the literary reference there. And I agree with @heldinadream: full title; ‘normal’ name and nickname. The naming of cats is an important matter!

Gingerkittycats · 05/12/2021 09:32

@RavenclawsRoar

Sir Alfred Edward Plum Plum I is the only real compromise here.
You could be right … Wink

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 05/12/2021 09:33

You'll probably end up giving him another nickname anyway.

Tal45 · 05/12/2021 09:37

I'd call her Plum and have Plum Plum as a cute NN.

Mangozesty · 05/12/2021 09:38

Plum is a fantastic name! I don't think let's really need nicknames, just call them the name you want to call them?
I know someone who has a cat she called Oscar but immediately announced he would go by Ozzie, I find this so odd. The cat doesn't know or care!

ODFOgrinch · 05/12/2021 09:38

Plumfred Plumward the First, nn Plumplum or Plum for short?
