To call my cat Plum Plum?

Ever since I was a child I have wanted a cat called Plum Plum (Plum for short). DH has finally agreed to get a cat and a tiny ginger kitten is arriving on Christmas Eve. Plum now seems even more appropriate as a festive name but DH is not convinced Grin

I also like Remi but this has been veto-ed. DH likes Alfred and Edward but I think these are much too grand for a tiny, fluffy cat!

So … AIBU to want to call my cat Plum Plum and, if so, what shall I call him?

Plum Plum is perfect and I love it. I would call Plum Plum from the back door with pride.

Why not? It's cute, go for it. It's not like it will have a birth certificate or could get bullied at school. Plum Plum it is.

Remember what ever name you give will be called out to all at the vets Plum Plum Gingerkittycats

I like Professor plum.
Just one plum. But thats only my opinion.

Didiplanthis · 05/12/2021 22:05

I think Plum is an excellent name... but as we gave our cat a perfectly normal name and he is know known as fatty catty.... it probably doesn't matter what you actually call him as he can be Plum Plum anyway 😁

Well, if it's been a lifelong dream, you may regret not getting "Plum" in there in some form.

I'd never make the testicle connection, not like you're calling the cats Balls Balls.

A friend had a cat called Ed Balls ... for rather, er, obvious reasons. He did get called Eddie in polite company. I admit, PlumPlum made me think of pumpum, which is slang for vagina in some Caribbean cultures, but it's not the same name.

I definitely think you should make your childhood dreams come true and name your pussy Plum Plum OP. I think it’s cute.

Touslesfromages · 06/12/2021 00:11

It's your cat so you should call it what you want. I think Plum Plum is a great name. However mine is called Primrose but almost exclusively goes by Prim Prim so I may be biased Grin

@SalsaLove I thought of P.G. Wodehouse too - Sir Pelham Grenville, known as Plum Plum, is a fine name for a cat.

Admittedly I did have a pet named after Humphrey Lyttelton and having to call him Humphrey McDoodle in a stern voice in the vets when he was being a dick was somewhat embarrassing.

Slothkin · 06/12/2021 00:37

Although hang on you’re getting a kitten on Christmas Eve? Farming mouser?

UltimateIrritant · 06/12/2021 00:43

How about Plum Duff, or Plum Pud?

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 06/12/2021 01:01

Tbh I have 3 cats and one dog. They all have names but also have about 6 nicknames each. All 3 kids and myself call them numerous differing names. I don't really think cats and dogs care so much what you call them, it's more the tone in the way you speak to them. They will love you regardless of what or how many names they have

Pickles89 · 06/12/2021 01:04

Plum Pudding? Then you can call him Plum and your OH can call him Pudding or Pud or whatever if he prefers. And it's more Christmassey than actual plums. But you'll have to paint the cat because Plum doesn't work on a ginger at all!!

BookFiend4Life · 06/12/2021 03:33

I love it! It makes me think of the cat in Muzzy, she loves plums!
