Posting here for traffic. What tog duvet would you get for winter (for adults) 13.5 or 15?

We don't use one higher than 10.5tog (scotland)
How cold does it get where you are?

Landof · 29/11/2021 14:44

Thanks! Probably not as cold as Scotland! I need to check what tog I have at the moment actually, I've been freezing. So maybe I'll just go up one from the one I've currently got.

I only needed a 10.5 tog when i lived in North Yorkshire. I'm now in Wiltshire and use a 4.5 tog in the winter, and I don't have the heating on overnight.

Zelda93 · 29/11/2021 14:46

Mine is a 13.5 .. in Yorkshire and that's warm at night don't think I'd cope with a 15!

Bigoldhag · 29/11/2021 14:48

Mines 13.5g but i do like be cosy - i layer extra blankets too, but prefer to do that so i can strip them down if too hot.

pigsDOfly · 29/11/2021 14:48

I'm an extremely chilly person. My winter duvet at a 13.5 tog is absolutely fine for me.

I'm in the SE of England, so obviously not as cold as some parts of the country, but 15 sounds a bit much for anywhere other than somewhere like the colder parts of Canada.

Fabuleuse · 29/11/2021 14:49

Lol we usually have our 13.5 tog duvet all year round (Scotland). Have a summer one too but rarely swap it over. I wish we had a 15 tog! Maybe we are actually reptiles...

AnneShirleysNewDress · 29/11/2021 14:52

13.5 tog here in Scotland. Also have a Summer duvet but this year was the first time it's been warm enough to use it.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 29/11/2021 14:53

We have a 13.5 but that hasn't come out for 2 or 3 years now. I imagine 15 would be waaay too much.

toastofthetown · 29/11/2021 14:55

YABU

inkworks273 · 29/11/2021 14:56

We use a 10.5 all year round.

mewkins · 29/11/2021 14:57

Mine is a 10.5 but I add a bedspread and sometimes blankets when it gets really cold as I like the weight. I think several layers is best.

80sMum · 29/11/2021 14:59

I use 13.5 in autumn, winter and spring and 4.5 in summer.

1099 · 29/11/2021 15:06

Mine is a 2 piece one, so 4.5 tog for summer and then a 9 Tog for Autumn then the two of them fasten together to make a 13.5 Tog.

Crocky · 29/11/2021 15:06

Mines 4.5. Use it all year 😂

MintJulia · 29/11/2021 15:08

I'm single, skinny, sleep alone in an old house and even on the coldest nights a 13.5 tog has been more than enough.

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 29/11/2021 15:09

I use a 4.5 in summer then change to a 9 autumn, then when it gets really cold (heading that way now) they press stud together so make a 13.5, if needed a large eiderdown is used (it gets very cold were I am)

Its a fancy down thingy hand picked by virgin elves or something, but also have a Brinkhaus 2 part topper which is like sleeping on a cloud.

UnLunDun · 29/11/2021 15:10

We all have 16.5 tog plus hot water bottles. Highlands of Scotland. They are so cosy.

tallduckandhandsome · 29/11/2021 15:12

4.5 here in London too. All year round.

Only allowance for winter is brushed cotton duvet cover and sheet.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/11/2021 15:16

Ours is also 4.5 tog and we're just not cold. We don't have the heating on at night either. I might put a t-shirt and socks on in the depths of winter.

If you're cold, you need something warmer than your current unspecified thickness, but 15 tog sounds like it would be warm enough to sleep outside.

mydogisthebest · 29/11/2021 15:16

4.5 all year round. We are in East Midlands so can get chilly but most nights me and DH are too hot. We don't have the bedroom radiator on either

tallduckandhandsome · 29/11/2021 15:18

Yes, the thought of having heating on at night makes me wince.

Tiredteacher100 · 29/11/2021 15:18

4.5 tog and an open window.

DroopyClematis · 29/11/2021 15:19

@Crocky

Mines 4.5. Use it all year 😂
Same here!
Rubybetsie · 29/11/2021 15:20

20 tog...don't have heating on in our bedroom and it's just about comfortable.
