Posting here for traffic. What tog duvet would you get for winter (for adults) 13.5 or 15?

BarbaraofSeville competitive undertogging ha ha ha - thats so funny!

I tried a 4.5 tog - meh! Prefer my 1 tog. I use it every night all year round and just alter the blankets. When its hot hot hot 1 tog is too much so i switch to a sheet/empty duvet cover.

I love that it means no summer (actually for me that would be spring summer and autumn) storage of a big chunky duvet. I love that the heavy blankets on top mean no chilly air pockets. I adore blankets that give me a lovely hug rather than sleeping under a fluffy cloud. Plus my 1 tog is so easy to wash and dry.

I tried a 10.5 tog - that was a disastrous error. So lovely and warm but way too light for me.

Wafflesnsniffles · 29/11/2021 17:11

I should also have said our house is usually cold cos we dont have the heating on much - so its not that Im using a 1 tog cos our house is hot. It isnt.

TheFogsGettingThicker · 29/11/2021 18:34

We had a 10.5 tog on ours, but it was ancient and had lost all its loft - it was flat as a pancake. I got so cold, was bunging on lots of extra blankets.

I bought another 10.5 tog one and it's fine and plumfy, keeps us toasty.

I do have a 13.5 one, it's a down replica kind that sounds crunchy like down, but DH found it too hot. It's waiting in the wings for us in our dotage when our blood's thinned out sufficiently.

Cacee3029 · 29/11/2021 18:35

I stick with a 10.5 tog cos I can get too hot. But use a blanket or hot water bottle if needed.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 29/11/2021 18:39

I've got two 13.5 duvets on my bed at the moment! It's cheaper than having the heating on at night.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 29/11/2021 18:41

9 tog + 4.5 tog down and feather duvets poppered together in the winter, then split down to 9.5 spring and autumn, 4.5 summer of a 2 tog if really hot.

Chocolatewheatos · 29/11/2021 18:45

Ours is 7.5. I have sensory issues, wouldn't like a heavy one.

freshcarnation · 29/11/2021 18:48

We've got 13.5 on our bed. It's far too heavy for me. I chuck it off half way through the night

Loving this word "plumfy" 😍
CinnamonEstella · 29/11/2021 18:56

Depends on how insulated and warm your house is.
We have a 9 for the winter, and it's mostly fine, but we add a blanket when it's really cold.
I'd be far too hot with 13, let alone 15, but everyone is different.

StoneofDestiny · 29/11/2021 18:58

13.5 wherever I've lived.

ThinWomansBrain · 29/11/2021 19:03

I've switched to a weighted blanket now, but I used to use one of those all season duvet combos - always found the two together too hot.
Go for the lighter weight and have a throw on top when it's v cold.

Or switch to a weighted blanket.

RiderGirl · 29/11/2021 19:14

I've got a 1 tog duvet. If it gets a bit chilly I put a fleece throw over it which is more than enough, 13.5tog I'd fucking die, 15 tog I think I'd vaporise!!!

nottoplan · 29/11/2021 19:36

1.5 here , all year round , windows open and heating turned down at night , couldn't have it any hotter we would melt
SE coast

Landof · 29/11/2021 20:07

Thanks all! I can't see what tog mine is but it's quite old from ikea and I think it's going a bit flat too. I don't have the heating on overnight and they are electric radiators so I just turn them on in whichever room I'm in. I only knew about 15 tog when looking in tbe supermarket yesterday!

I think I'll go 13.5 tog.

I do use a hot water bottle currently too and blankets!

4.5 all year. Can’t stand it any hotter. Window open.

kowari · 29/11/2021 20:12

Ours are both 7.5 with a weighted blanket on top that can be folded back if we get too hot. Heating set to 17 and goes off at 8pm but the house holds heat well.

kowari · 29/11/2021 20:13

4.5 in summer

Lampzade · 29/11/2021 20:13

13.5 goose down for Winter
9 tog Summer

Noseylittlemoo · 29/11/2021 22:46

We have 4.5 tog which we've been using for about 2 years. We live in an old house and don't have the heating on at night. The bed feels a bit cool when you get in but I soon warm up and am usually very cosy.
I'm hoping my husband has forgotten about the 10 tog one we have stored away!
I would rather add a blanket or put warmer pjs on as they're easier to take off if too hot.

Nanalisa60 · 29/11/2021 22:52

I like a 15 tog in the winter plus a electric under blanket, but I don’t have the heating on at night.

gogohm · 29/11/2021 22:52

If you have central heating and double glazing 10.5 is fine, have a throw/blanket off the occasional very cold night

OhGiveUp · 29/11/2021 23:01

I just have a duvet cover with no duvet. I'd melt under a duvet. No heating on in the bedroom.
DH likes a 10.5 on his side of the bed, or according to him, he'd freeze to death.

HippeePrincess · 29/11/2021 23:02

We have a 3 tog I think in spring and summer, we’ve just changed it to a 7.5 which is cosy to start with but gets way too hot overnight. I feel like IKEA got the togs wrong as one year we didn’t even change to the winter one. I’m debating buying a 1 tog for summer but wondered if it was pointless.
The heating would kick in if it dropped below 14 I think though we don’t have the radiators on in the bedroom.
I used to have a 10 and 13 tog but I can’t bear the thought of that now.

BeaLola · 29/11/2021 23:17

I have a 13.5 all year round (no central heating on in bedroom at night) - I like to cocoon myself in it - good news is DH finds it too much - in winter I also have a blanket/velvet throw at end over my feet
