Listed these on a post in another thread but I think it deserves a thread of its own. These are just some films that are being remade in 2022:

An American Werewolf in London
Dirty Dancing
Drop Dead Fred
The Birds
Little Shop Of Horrors
My Fair Lady
Scarface
The Bodyguard
Gremlins
The Lost Boys
Hellraiser
A Nightmare on Elm Street
I know what you did last Summer
Sister Act
The Sword in the Stone
The Fly

If recent remakes are anything to go by, paying to see any one of these will be a complete waste of money. AIBU? Are any of your favourites listed that you think a remake is needed/you would welcome?

I love the majority of these films and I won't be bothering watching an updated version, remake, or reimagining of any of them. Most of these are classics and need leaving the hell alone!

Sloth66 · 16/11/2021 19:38

The originals are good enough. I wouldn’t bother watching any remakes. It just seems so unimaginative and lazy to remake these classics.

Disgusted is quite a strong word! I was not expecting this to be about remaking films.

I won’t be watching any of them.

TheCheesyBakedBean · 16/11/2021 19:42

Is nobody writing new material or are the producers just playing it safe?

That's rhetorical though, because I know that lockdown will have seen many screenplay writers writing more work than ever. How sad if it doesn't get a look in because of recycling old movies.

Not that the movies aren't great, but new talent is so important.

Sootybear · 16/11/2021 19:42

Most of that list are classic films. Make something new that could be a classic for the future. I won't be watching for sure.

mrsawhite · 16/11/2021 19:42

The sword In the stone?! Noooo

DoctorWhoTardis · 16/11/2021 19:43

They can't remake dirty dancing! Sad
They will ruin it.

Goshitstricky · 16/11/2021 19:43

Absolutely outraged at remaking Drop Dead Fred! It was Rik Mayall's, how very dare they?! AngryAngryAngry

5128gap · 16/11/2021 19:44

My fair lady is one of my favourites. It depends on the remake really. If its remade in the same time period as the film I'll probably go and see it, but not in a contemporary setting. Oh and it would have to still be a musical.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 16/11/2021 19:44

Haven't they already had a go at remaking Dirty Dancing and wasn't it a total flop?

tallduckandhandsome · 16/11/2021 19:45

YANBU. Can we add the live action Disney remakes to the list?

Normando91 · 16/11/2021 19:45

You cannot remake The Lost Boys, ffs!!!

Unhomme · 16/11/2021 19:45

Most people who remember the originals won't want the remake.

But for the people born in the 30 years since most of these were made, they are as archaic as the 50s films I wouldn't have watched in the 80s.

Remake them I say, for a new audience.

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/11/2021 19:45

Whilst I'm unlikely to watch they will get a new audience that would never have watched the originals

I thought so too

Not a movie, but house of cards remake was way better

Drop Dead Fred is a step too far for me. DDF is Rik Mayall.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 16/11/2021 19:48

You need to get a grip if your “disgusted” by remakes of movies Confused

I don’t see an issue, you either watch it or you don’t.

TangerineDreams · 16/11/2021 19:48

How very dare they?!!

They will be abominations! What is The Fly without Jeff? Which baby is going to put in the corner and what non-Patrick Swayze will come get her?!

Redannie118 · 16/11/2021 19:48

Nearly all of these are stuck at the ideas phase and have been for over 20 years. Quick google search states no plans to remake most of them. A nightmare on Elm street was remade a few years back and a huge flop, so i doubt thats happening, although there was talk of making it into a TV series. I know what you did last summer is already a tv series on Prime and Hellraiser is going to be remake of The Hellbound heart, the original Clive Barker book that Hellraiser was based on. Barker has only just regained artistic rights to his Hellraiser franchise and wants to make a tv series that he feels more closely reflects his artistic vision. Dirty Dancing is in pre production with Jennifer Grey who states it will be a direct sequel not a remake.
FB loves to do this. Makes proper clickbait about beloved films being remade and even add posters and trailers that are fan made when theres no truth in it at all.

In true MN fashion I did think about substituting ‘disgusted’ for ‘fuming’, ‘outraged’ or ‘livid’ Wink

And I won’t be either! At most I’ll watch the trailers solely to slag them off.
