Listed these on a post in another thread but I think it deserves a thread of its own. These are just some films that are being remade in 2022:

An American Werewolf in London
Dirty Dancing
Drop Dead Fred
The Birds
Little Shop Of Horrors
My Fair Lady
Scarface
The Bodyguard
Gremlins
The Lost Boys
Hellraiser
A Nightmare on Elm Street
I know what you did last Summer
Sister Act
The Sword in the Stone
The Fly

If recent remakes are anything to go by, paying to see any one of these will be a complete waste of money. AIBU? Are any of your favourites listed that you think a remake is needed/you would welcome?

@Normando91

You cannot remake The Lost Boys, ffs!!!
This, times one hundred million.
Totallydefeated · 16/11/2021 22:04

@Sloth66

The originals are good enough. I wouldn’t bother watching any remakes. It just seems so unimaginative and lazy to remake these classics.
Exactly.

What went wrong with coming up with new stories and scripts? Surely out of nearly 8 billion people on the planet somebody can come up with some fresh and original movies??

It's SO lazy to just rehash old movies that don't need a rehash, because they're already good. The movie studios don't deserve the box office revenue for that.

DukeofEarlGrey · 16/11/2021 22:04

YANBU. A remake of Drop Dead Fred?!

StCharlotte · 16/11/2021 22:08

Wasn't the Jeff Goldblum version of The Fly already a remake? (I may be wrong)

My Fair Lady is perfection. I genuinely don't see how it can be improved.

QuiteQuaint · 16/11/2021 22:09

I’d watch the remakes just to see what they’re like. To be fair though, I’ll watch any old shite. 🤣

They better not ruin Dirty Dancing too much. There’s a couple in the list I’ve never watched so those ones will be like a brand new films anyway.

GivenchyDahhling · 16/11/2021 22:11

@Redannie118 I agree completely. This is an absolute classic example of an OP who has taken a nonsense Facebook or whatever post at face value and reposted, it takes only the tiniest bit of research to see that these have been rumours for decades, eg posters who have seen Russel Brand touted to star in the Drop Dead Fred remake - those articles are from 2009!

RVN123 · 16/11/2021 22:11

Just watched The FLY yesterday! Brilliant film and Jeff Goldblum is fantastic (and lovely!).
The effects were brilliant, not CGI. I can imagine a remake would use CGI.
I know its a remake (from an original story by George Langelaan, which is also fantastic). But its a great movie and a remake would be appalling. As would most of the others on the list!

SoniaFouler · 16/11/2021 22:12

I’ve also heard they are doing a Labyrinth sequel Sad

And one film (despite my earlier protests) that I think would make a better remade franchise for a modern audience with better graphics and better acting would be The Neverending Story, but that is unlikely to get one given the authors hatred of the first one!

ALongHardWinter · 16/11/2021 22:12

An American Werewolf in London is one of my all time favourite films. I think I'd watch a re-make out of sheer curiosity.

ImUninsultable · 16/11/2021 22:13

I hate threads when the OP just ignores the posts correcting them on things. If you've got links showing that the sister act and dirty dancing movies are remakes rather than confirmed sequels then please post them.

That list was taken from IMDb actually, which is often cited as the leading website for films. If it’s wrong, it was wrong on their end, I didn’t get it from Facebook as I don’t use it.

I already have earlier in the thread, and in the post posted one minute exactly after yours…

The Lost Boys is going to be a Netflix show. Like I Know What You Did Last Summer which is already showing.

The Fly is a remake already.

I don't see the problem - Scarface is a terrible film anyway, a remake is long overdue, hopefully with a more believable/Latino actor as Tony Montana and a better soundtrack.

Sorry, that should have said, I acknowledged earlier in the thread that its actually sequels, not remakes

GivenchyDahhling · 16/11/2021 22:20

@SoniaFouler But surely before reposting something as absolute fact as you have in your OP, it’s common sense to fact check what you’re saying is true? Just typing “An American Werewolf in London remake” shows that there were vague talks a few years ago and then the third article down is a 2019 story which has the search headline “ Max Landis' American Werewolf In London Remake Is Probably Not Happening”.

I don’t have strong feelings either way about IMDb being the leading website for films. Sure, it can list the cast of some obscure episode of some sitcom for years ago but it also has a lot of user-generated nonsense (which, without a link, I assume this is).

Kikkomam · 16/11/2021 22:21

I can't believe noone had mentioned the current "reimagining" of Home Alone - home sweet home alone (it's shit)

SleepingStandingUp · 16/11/2021 22:22

@DrSbaitso

I haven't actually seen Drop Dead Fred, missed that somehow.

It's got 11% on Rotten Tomatoes...could they do it any harm?

They're wrong, it's fantastic and a remake is a terrible idea.
Lipsandlashes · 16/11/2021 22:25

That Digital Spy article is really old now though. Like I say; I’ll be stunned if it actually gets made. I think even Chris Evans has given up on it and it was his personal mission to play Orin

There’s a top quality (spoiler filled) pitch meeting for this out tonight from Ryan George…

m.youtube.com/watch?v=jpKoLJ5vc7E

It sounds absolutely abysmal.

KrisAkabusi · 16/11/2021 22:30

Assuming that in each case you mean the best known version, five in your list are remakes themselves. So who's to say that new versions others won't be as good or better?

Mossstitch · 16/11/2021 22:33

Well I won't be watching 'The Birds' traumatised for life when babysitter let me watch it whilst still at primary school! Put me off birds for life👀🦅

unicornpower · 16/11/2021 22:34

Nightmare on elm street was remade in 2010 (I think?!) and I thought it was quite decent tbf but I think it majorly flopped but hey ho! Wouldnt watch an ‘I know what you did last summer’ remake as I love the original (totally cus of Freddie prinze jr!)

PugInTheHouse · 16/11/2021 22:36

I guess it is all personal preference. I agree with a pp that younger people may prefer remakes as some of them will appear so old fashioned now, although my teens love DDF and Little Shop of Horrors. I can't imagine a remake of DDF, Rik was that character and it shouldn't be ruined!

I have to disagree with the poster who mentioned the cover versions of songs being better than the originals, Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and The Zutons Valerie are much much better that the covers mentioned IMO (I haven't hear the original Torn)

TheLeadbetterLife · 16/11/2021 22:55

Every year for decades there have been rumours about most of those films getting remade. I've yet to see any of them actually happen. I'm beginning to think it's an urban legend.

Flanjango · 16/11/2021 22:57

Good grief. These are iconic movies of their time. Leave them alone and think of something new. I won't be spending hard earned cash on rehashes of what was amazing in the first place.
