I'm in some semi professional fb groups to do with my career. Lots of mums in there who constantly relate everything to having a drink.

Endless posts about "is it too soon for gin"? Or pictures with those enormous glasses of wine that say just one glass. The whole Christmas party is about wine.

Does anyone else find this annoying?

Me!

MrzClaus · 12/11/2021 17:00

I find it annoying too 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm not a big drinker at all, so that's probably why! However I'm a huge coffee fan, so all of my "I run on iced coffee" posts probably annoy everyone else 😂 live and let live!

MissLToeWine · 12/11/2021 17:02

I hate it along with well it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. I don’t ‘get’ the wine relaxes me thing either or having a drink after a stressful day - tea does me just fine!

JBlow · 12/11/2021 17:03

Yes it's cringe

stopwiththewineoclock · 12/11/2021 17:05

I love a glass of wine but the whole wine o clock thing is highly irritating. Said by the same kind of person that uses 'making memories' as a hashtag.

RoseyOldCrow · 12/11/2021 17:09

I agree. Imho it's a complex "my life is so busy & stressful, nobody could cope without alcohol" message, coupled with "despite my tough grown up life, I'm still a party girl".

A580Hojas · 12/11/2021 17:15

Not really. I do my best not to let things I see on FB irritate me and mostly it works. I did delete an acquaintance fir making lots of long posts about why she wouldn't be having the covid vaccine so I don't have a 100% success rate.

Viviennemary · 12/11/2021 17:17

Yes. As if heavy/regular drinking was anything to boast about.

girlmom21 · 12/11/2021 17:17

If it's that much of an issue, leave the groups.

stopwiththewineoclock · 12/11/2021 17:18

I think the people who post this don't consider that people might not drink for many reasons. I take a cocktail of painkillers and I find the constant references to drinking annoying. Likewise people might have had alcohol problems, religious reasons etc. Many valid reasons for not wanting to constantly drink wine or gin. (And why is it always these two?!)

OP posts:
stopwiththewineoclock · 12/11/2021 17:19

I don't want to leave the group it's a membership type thing for my career. It's great other than the constant wine references

letsfightlikechickens · 12/11/2021 17:20

It's alcohol dependency dressed up

ThinWomansBrain · 12/11/2021 17:20

Rannva · 12/11/2021 17:21

Yes. I mean, at first it was tacky and suggested they had no personality other than 'lol gin' and Minion memes, but lately there have been so many more posts and social media nattering about just HOW much these women drink, like they're really chucking it back starting at 'wine o clock'. You can tell the drinkers from the non-drinkers in looks and demeanour (the drinkers can only talk about their next drink), and they really do seem incapable of imagining life without it.

I grew up with heavy-drinking parents who insist what they do is normal - bottles of wine and cans of strong lager opened at 4-5pm, my dad can get through 7-9 cans, my mum a bottle and a half or box of wine. Sometimes my dad would do one of those huge plastic bottles of cider. In the morning, we kids would clean up. And you know what? I bet what they do IS normal to a lot of people even today. They could easily find peers who do the same.

MaskingForIt · 12/11/2021 17:24

YANBU, they’re the kind of people who confuse liking a drink with having a personality.

stopwiththewineoclock · 12/11/2021 17:24

I feel sorry for them. Wine is horrible!!!Grin

FangsForTheMemory · 12/11/2021 17:29

Never touch it, myself. Give me a nice cup of weak tea any day.

thepeopleversuswork · 12/11/2021 17:30

Yes exceptionally annoying.

There’s a bunch of women in my work who witter on about booze the whole fucking time like it’s some special club they have joined.

As someone else said it’s just addiction dressed up as a hobby.

Plus everything about it is utterly cringe. The giant glass of wine memes etc. Pass the bucket.

Bloodypunkrockers · 12/11/2021 17:31

Said by the types that hun and hubby all over the place

I'd rather have a nice cup of tea

KnobblyWand · 12/11/2021 17:31

I don't drink but I don't find it annoying, I find it really fucking weird.

Chikapu · 12/11/2021 17:46

I find it a bit cringe, so many people having a cheeky prosecco or a cheeky gin, what's cheeky about it? Just admit you can't make it through the day without alcohol and have done.

Sunshineandflipflops · 12/11/2021 17:52

I enjoy a glass of wine (which, believe it or not, you can do without having a drinking problem) but don’t feel the need to tell the world when I’m having one.
Lots of things annoy me on social media, hence not using it much.

Jabvribt · 12/11/2021 17:55

I really cringe at the whole wine o’clock thing! I very much enjoy a glass of wine but I find it problematic how much of our culture and socialising is about drinking especially mums drinking and it being suggested that you need that to look forward to so you can get through the day
