Eurgh Wine O'clock

stopwiththewineoclock · 12/11/2021 16:59

I'm in some semi professional fb groups to do with my career. Lots of mums in there who constantly relate everything to having a drink.

Endless posts about "is it too soon for gin"? Or pictures with those enormous glasses of wine that say just one glass. The whole Christmas party is about wine.

Does anyone else find this annoying?

OP posts:
Haudyourwheesht · 12/11/2021 20:07

It's a joke. I don't find the 'halloween's over, it's time to put up the Christmas lights' posts funny, and I don't shed a tear at the 'hug them now, you never know when they'll be too big to sit on your knee' shite that people post either. Different strokes for different folks. That's what the mute function is for.

If your purpose is to have a dig at people who drink wine - just say it.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/11/2021 20:19

@Udouhun

I love wine o'clock Wink
Me too. Sitting here with my sangria now and I'm no alcoholic. It's Friday night and I want a few drinks. That's all.
DriftingPlateTectonic · 12/11/2021 20:35

The normalisation of our pervasive drink culture, the fact you need to reference it as a busy mum, busy worker, busy woman just to fit in is such a sad state of affairs.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 12/11/2021 20:35

Wine on a Friday night is absolutely the best thing. I'm not an alcoholic, I don't obsess over it I am not trying to prove my life is more busy than anybody else's. I just want to let myself go for a little while and Wine makes that easy.

YABU

FWIW a very close family member is an alcoholic so I don't go on and on about it on social media but I'm happy to celebrate the fact that a glass of wine is what I enjoy.

stopwiththewineoclock · 12/11/2021 20:39

No issue with drinking wine whatsoever but the constant posting about having wine in response to any post about people's day is annoying.

If I say been a hard week with my toddler, every response will be about having a huge glass of wine. Just wish there were other responses. 🤷‍♀️

PottererCrouch · 12/11/2021 20:52

Do people still do this?! Seriously? It was a ‘thing’ years ago but no one on my FB does it anymore.

I love a drink though and wine, I tend to socialise with people similar to me. But none of us feel the need to post wine o clock shite on FB.

A580Hojas · 12/11/2021 20:54

@LadyTiredWinterBottom2

I find it really annoying when people get annoyed by things that don't really matter.
Yes, summed it up much better than me earlier!

Get annoyed by serious things, of course, otherwise just live and let live.

This thread reminds me of a batshit thread a while ago which was all about people "showing off" by walking around with a coffee in their hand.

JaceLancs · 12/11/2021 20:56

Maybe it’s just the group of people?
In one group of my friends we always talk about food
In another it’s alcohol
Another group we share our clothing and jewellery obsessions
A new one for me recently was a group of acquaintances who had a competitive camping/camper vans, how many miles of mud I trekked through with my dogs (I didn’t join in as prefer cats and luxury hotels)

Itstheweekendyasssss · 12/11/2021 21:00

I stopped drinking a while ago. These types of posts don’t bother me atall, but then others drinking doesn’t bother me in the slightest. We are in a culture of drinking. Rightly or wrongly. To each his own? They are not forcing you to love their posts, maybe try to relax about it, I am pretty sure they won’t want to offend anyone.

Thatsplentyjack · 12/11/2021 21:15

Yup really irritating. I love having a drink bit I rarely do because it makes me feel so groggy and bloated the next day and if I drink a lot in one night I can't function the next day and I'm go into a horrible depressed state for around a week. No idea how people do that often.
Drink does not relax me.

Fomomofo · 12/11/2021 21:22

Maybe people don't know how to respond to people complaining about having a hard day with their toddler

1forAll74 · 12/11/2021 21:23

I would find it crappy, I am not in any groups whatever, and would hate womens groups anyway.. It is getting so sheeplike everywhere.

Fomomofo · 12/11/2021 21:27

Yeah women, bloody annoying

stopwiththewineoclock · 12/11/2021 21:31

It's a mums group. It's absolutely brilliant I love the group but this one aspect is grating that's all.

You would think a group for mothers would 😆

PrimalLass · 12/11/2021 21:41

This thread has made me want a glass of wine.

If it's not fair you then leave the group 🤷‍♂️. Don't understand why you're moaning about it.

chillidoritto · 12/11/2021 21:42

People looking forward to a glass of wine is no different to people wanking on about cake!

yourestandingonmyneck · 12/11/2021 21:47

@stopwiththewineoclock

If it's any consolation, drinking (to excess, anyway) is slowly but surely becoming very unfashionable.

So they are making themselves look like dated and out of touch, really.

But yes, I agree it is all a bit tiresome.

authenticforgery · 12/11/2021 21:47

I don't find it annoying really. It just makes me feel a bit sad for people that can't function without their wine or gin. It's odd that society has normalised alcohol dependency, especially in parents. That "reasons mummy drinks gin" blog thing is a prime example. Swap drinking gin for any other drug and it wouldn't be so quirky and fun.

yourestandingonmyneck · 12/11/2021 21:54

@RockNRollMartian

Yes, it's annoying. However, I also know someone who tries to fetishise seltzer and spreadsheets.

Moral: Anything can be made annoying with enough effort. Wine/gin, coffee, bacon, even seltzer and spreadsheets. Hmm

What fo they say about seltzer and spreadsheets??!
Takemetothe90s · 12/11/2021 21:58

@stopwiththewineoclock

I don't want to leave the group it's a membership type thing for my career. It's great other than the constant wine references
Then.. deal with it???
Fomomofo · 12/11/2021 22:02

What about people who 'can't function' without cake etc, are they a better class of person

DingleyDel · 12/11/2021 22:07

I take a cocktail of painkillers

Could be why you don’t feel the need for wine as strongly as some on a Friday night.

CounsellorTroi · 12/11/2021 22:08

With regard to greeting cards, I think it’s harder to find cards for men that don’t reference alcohol than women.

I like a glass of wine but haven’t posted on FB about it for ages.
