So I've been lucky to have the last 2 off.
We are short staffed so I was expecting it and don't mind too much.
Anyone else know their rota yet and is it fair.?

Not this year. The place I'm working at the moment is shut for Christmas Day. My college was saying this will be the first Christmas she will ever have off since she had her first dc who is now in his teens!

I don't love working Christmas Day, but I love my job, so would do it if they asked me.

I am working and I don't mind. I'm working 12/ 5 which is a short shift. The idea is everyone does a short shift on the premium days so no one gets a long one. It's not so bad as it's extra pay on top of the wage and you get your hours worked back to take off another time.

nonevernotever · 11/11/2021 18:09

I'm on call that week so may be. Quite happy either way.

PhoenixReincarnated · 11/11/2021 18:15

I'll be working Christmas day. We have 4 staff and 5 shifts and that's if you ignore the night shift for Christmas eve.

Borris · 11/11/2021 18:17

Yes. Having family Christmas a few days later

PrivateHall · 11/11/2021 18:18

We don't have our rota yet. Obviously I would prefer to be off, but won't be devastated if I have to work. Someone has to after all!!

QueenofKattegat · 11/11/2021 18:19

I'm working. Don't mind really. People are generally less shit on xmas day. I'm working 6.45 til 3 so will have all afternoon and night. What industry are you in OP?

muddyboots · 11/11/2021 18:20

I'm working 12 hour shifts Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I'm not really bothered. I do have children but they'll be happy at their dad's house and I'm off for New Year so we can do stuff together then.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 11/11/2021 18:24

Not this year as I'll be on maternity leave, but I've worked past Christmas days. Our rota has been out for about 6 weeks now to allow people to make plans!

supafish · 11/11/2021 18:27

Me !!!
Xmas day and Boxing Day here but I don't mind because my family are flying in from overseas the day after . So I'm on holiday for a month after .
Worked it loads of times , you can't be a nurse without expecting too do it !

PooWillyNameChange · 11/11/2021 18:29

I've never worked Christmas day, bonus of a soulless non-essential corporate job. Thanks to all those who do though! Flowers

frumpety · 11/11/2021 18:31

Christmas eve and day, don't mind.

JennyDune · 11/11/2021 18:32

I used to work shifts and didnt mind working Christmas day. But did mind being forced to work Christmas eve, xmas day, boxing day, and new years eve at the same time. (I.e wasnt allowed to take leave). Thanks Border Force....

NothingSafe · 11/11/2021 18:45

When I worked in hospitality we could choose to have either NYE or Christmas Day off. I always preferred working Christmas day of the two!

Goneback2school · 11/11/2021 18:49

No, my rota Christmas week is quite nice actually, I'm working Christmas eve but off for the next two days

PerfectlyImperfectme · 11/11/2021 18:54

I'm working Christmas day - early shift 6-1.30 ish - hopefully we'll be cut loose when the lates come in if there's not much happening. Had last 2 off. Sadly as it's a Saturday it's not classed as bank holiday so need to work 28th to complete the amount of BH I have to work each year.
Thankfully got leave I requested 26th & 27th 👍🍷

MeanderingGently · 11/11/2021 18:58

I shall be working although I don't know my shifts yet. I offered and said I'd be available for the whole of the Christmas/New Year period.
Our family is having Christmas a week early (!) and then everyone else is doing their own thing with others, and I shall be free to work. I live on my own and I think Christmas will be nice to work, I've never worked Christmas before. I also thought my volunteering might help those who have families so that they can have the time off....

FateHasRedesignedMost · 11/11/2021 18:59

Not this year thanks to mat leave! A relief as I’ve worked multiple Xmases, even rare years I got the 25th off I still missed the build up to Xmas, came home late and exhausted on Xmas eve, back to work Boxing Day. No holiday between Xmas and New Year. Poor DS had to go to holiday club for some of it, nursery before that. This year is the first we have the Xmas hols off. I’m going to change my hours when back!

AutumnLeaves21 · 11/11/2021 19:03

I’m off Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year. I worked everything last year, and to be honest I was devastated 😢 it’s unavoidable and somebody needs to, so I understand, but one of the few things I really dislike about my job. I feel the Rota has been done really fairly this year and everyone has something off.
Hope everyone working this year has a nice shift and gets to enjoy some well earned time off at some point Flowers

fairgame84 · 11/11/2021 19:07

I working it but I had it off last year. I'm only doing a short shift so 7.30-2pm.
I really wanted Christmas eve off this year as I worked a 13 hour shift Christmas eve last year but they've put me on 1.30-8pm.
We got our shifts approx 3 weeks ago which is really good as some wards still haven't got theirs.

Donatella · 11/11/2021 19:15

I'm working - I do the rota for this particular role and didn't feel I could give the shift to anyone else when I have been off the last few Christmases. I'm OK with it, we'll still have a nice time and I'll be able to have the next few off.

Spanglybangles · 11/11/2021 19:21

Yep, working backshift until 11.30pm on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (NHS). Have kids, youngest 7, so would rather not, but that’s just the way it is. We will have our Christmas meal on Boxing Day instead, then I’m off until 3rd January, so will make the most of these days.

verymiddleaged · 11/11/2021 19:22

@MeanderingGently that is really thoughtful of you.

I used to work shifts and covered Xmas day pre dc.

whatisforteamum · 11/11/2021 19:29

I'm in hospitality. We will have to do the lot this yr unless anyone applies for the roles.
Normally I'm well up for Nyday work as I don't get drunk like my colleagues and they don't like Xmas so I've been really lucky.
