So I've been lucky to have the last 2 off.
We are short staffed so I was expecting it and don't mind too much.
Anyone else know their rota yet and is it fair.?

DoucheCanoe · 11/11/2021 20:28

I'm not and I don't mind!

I am working a 24hr shift from 2pm on NYE though. Joys of the job Xmas Grin

GalaPie · 11/11/2021 20:29

I'm not this year, for the first time in 3 years! I shall do night shift Boxing night and I'm very happy with that.
I do consecutive nights so Xmas Day has been spent trying to stay awake after a night shift to open presents and see the dc, then getting some sleep before eating, trying for more sleep then returning to work for another night shift.
Having said that, I have volunteered to go in early on Boxing night so that people on the late can get off a couple of hours early. Glutton for punishment.

Begonias · 11/11/2021 20:30

I volunteer for Christmas Eve and Christmas day every year so those that want to celebrate can enjoy time with their loved ones. In return I get time off for Eid as plenty of people return the favour.

Maverickess · 11/11/2021 20:35

Don't have my rota yet, but it's part of being in a 24/7/365 job to have to work your fair share over Christmas/New Year so I'll not be complaining unless I get them all - we don't get any extra for any of them.

Steelesauce · 11/11/2021 20:41

Usually do a 2-8 on Xmas day as the manager likes to do the early. We have a new nurse starting though so I may wrangle it off for once. I don't mind. Usually by 2pm the kids are hyped up and being pains so I leave them happily with my Mum and skip off to work Grin

Firefightress1 · 11/11/2021 20:43

Yep 14 hour nightshifts Christmas eve and Christmas day, goes with the job so I'm used to it now. It's just a day, we celebrate the first day off I have afterwards x

Etonmessisyum · 11/11/2021 20:58

Our ward does turn about so if you work one the next year you do the opposite. I usually do one of each due to my exes shifts. Nhs here too

DramaLlllama · 11/11/2021 21:00

I’ve never worked on christmas day and have never worked on my birthday - I’m hoping that it continues!

2old2beamum · 11/11/2021 21:11

Many years ago when working on Neonatal Intensive care as a paediatric nurse and midwife I said I was happy to work Christmas day (I was a "good Jewish girl 🤔🤔) but insisted I had boxing day off and new year. It worked and my kids were not bothered

verymiddleaged · 11/11/2021 21:28

I will say I quite liked 7-3 shift as I drove across London and it was the only time it actually quiet.

3scape · 11/11/2021 21:34

My husband nearly always works it (well he works Christmas Eve in to Christmas Day night then sometimes Christmas night into boxing day. It depends on the job. But it's a great night for his work. It's great for us as our wider families are too busy to see us anyway.

MonkeyPuddle · 11/11/2021 21:36

I don’t know yet. I start a new job at the start of December and haven’t had my off duty yet. New job is twiglight shifts so even if I am working I’ll have most of the day which is more than good enough for me.

Pyewackect · 11/11/2021 21:37

Yep, I’m working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. And yes I mind coz I worked all Christmas last year but ppl think Covid has gone away so our Red Zone is at capacity.

Crispyturtle · 11/11/2021 21:39

I’m working Christmas night, which is great for me. I can be there for the kids opening their presents, have a nice lunch, a good nap afterwards then head off the work leaving DP to do bedtime Grin

I quite enjoy working Christina’s day, it’s usually really quiet and there’s a lovely team spirit.

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/11/2021 21:42

I'm working Christmas eve night and Christmas night. Work in care and my 2 are now adults, so I don't mind.

Soupseason · 11/11/2021 21:49

I'm working Christmas eve night shift. Due to finish @ 10am Christmas day but I will stay most of the day. I work In a small supported living home for young adults. We will have a 'family' dinner open gifts & play some games. I will leave early evening. I don't mind I love our residents and we will try to make sure they have a good day & get a few nice pressies.

RockallMalinHebrides · 11/11/2021 21:51

My DH is working Christmas Eve Night and Christmas Day night - so Christmas Dinner will be on the 26th.

He's probably worked more Christmas' over the years than he's had off so we are just used to it.

shiningjustforyou · 11/11/2021 21:59

No. I was supposed to be on call over the bank holidays but I've managed to dodge it.
I probably will have to work next year but for this year I can sit in my pants for 10 glorious days. 👍

plominoagain · 11/11/2021 22:00

First Christmas off in 15 years ! Only because they didn’t change our shift pattern this year and are not planning to do so next year either because COVID meant it didn’t get a chance to work under normal circumstances . Before that , they changed the roster practically every year , and somehow , it always happened that our team was one of the two that worked .

My daughter doesn’t know that she made me a bit teary today. We were chatting about how the cost of living is making normal life so much more expensive , and she said “ I don’t really mind if I get less , because I’ve got you home which is better than presents anyway “ She’s 16 and can’t ever remember me being home for:Christmas.
.…

Bigoldhag · 11/11/2021 22:02

I’m very lucky to not work Christmas/Boxing Day, with the extra bank holidays too. I did for a few years in my late teens/early 20s as a waitress and a cornershop employee, and didnt mind. Now I’m older I really would resent it.

Belledan1 · 11/11/2021 22:06

Husband can choose to work either xmas or new years day. Normally chooses to work new year but this year going to do a few hours xmas morning. DC 14 prob wont rise until late so decided let someone else see their kids open presents in morning. Also we are staying at home this xmas just the immediate family.

Tohaveandtohold · 11/11/2021 22:11

My work pays triple pay for those who work on Christmas Day and Boxing Day so lots of people young people request to work those days that the managers often have to decline some. They also give them vouchers too. That way, anyone who wants the days off always get it so I’ve had Christmas off since I’ve been with this company

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 11/11/2021 22:21

It's fallen on my weekend off so no. I definitely won't be working it either. It'll be nice to have Xmas day and Boxing Day off together

waitingpatientlyforspring · 11/11/2021 22:59

I chose my career to ensure I would never have to work Christmas 😂

AutumnLeaves21 · 11/11/2021 23:07

@waitingpatientlyforspring what is it that you do, and how long do you get off over the christmas period? Envious!! Grin
