To despise being called ‘cis’?

Ostryga · 07/11/2021 19:50

I’m not ‘cis’. I’m not ‘cisgendered’. I’m literally a woman. I’ve just read a guardian article that calls women seeking IVF cisgendered.

Why????

@foxgoosefinch

None of those things comes close to the denial of people’s lived experience which runs central to this thread.

Yes, I agree, it's definitely the case that several posters repeatedly ignore the lived experiences of women - like being bullied as a child for being gender non-conforming - and hundreds of women's visceral dislike of being called a made-up term like "cis" which they find alienating and upsetting, sometimes for traumatic reasons. Yes, it's really bad when some posters dismiss that, sometimes in the most callous and sweary terms. Sad Sad Sad

I didn’t ignore it, I said I didn’t give a fuck.

I know how you hate it when people aren’t accurate, so I’m happy to clarify that for you.

Blueskip · 08/11/2021 20:13

No, women who tell other women her opinions and thoughts aren’t valid and her existence as a non-XX female don’t count are bullies.

The irony is strong in this one.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 08/11/2021 20:13

Hate to ask

But was that supposed to be john donne??

Its just it bought to mind

John donne
Ann donne
Undone

Which always amuses me

Unless it is dunne in which case ive no idea who he is

People's lived experience of what? It's not possible for male people to have the lived experience of being female. And sometimes this is important. That's all that's being stated.

Have a look at how @Helloise has been treated. That’s what I’m talking about.
Helloise · 08/11/2021 20:14
@helloise oddly when I Google that I get the NHS, The Times, The Guardian and a few blog sites.

You must read Mumsnet even more than I do 😁
You’re the one with the adulterated search results- I research for my clients all day (nothing related to trans stuff at all, just general medical marketing and SEO research) and I use software to ensure my google searches all start from a completely blank and anonymous slate, or I manually set parameters for specific personas. There is literally nothing about “cervix havers” in my results that is not a mn thread or a conservative blogger.
Hilariously (at least to me) my autocorrect keeps trying to autocorrect cervix to crevice. “Crevice havers”.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 08/11/2021 20:14

@foxgoosefinch

John Donne the screenwriter, or do you mean John Donne the poet?

He definitely knew what a biological woman was Grin

I type so slow…
Blueskip · 08/11/2021 20:14

I see your truuuuuee colours shining through...

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 20:14

@RufustheBadgeringReindeer

Shrieking void Not very bright Don’t give a fuck about your trauma Baying mob Lacking in comprehensive skills

certainly giving the ‘nasty’ posters on here a run for their money

I am quite amazed actually by the vitriol that is being written by posters on this thread today who seem to be quite hypocritically ignoring just how aggressive their own posts are... blimey.

And one even tells us that they believe they have been 'civil'. I keep asking MNHQ for a definition of 'civil' as they keep giving my strikes for being uncivil. I have never written anything anywhere as aggressive as these two posters.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/11/2021 20:15

Until only the mean girls are left

You're the meanest one here, by my reckoning, littlecar. But of course you believe in gender identity ideology so you're automatically morally superior to all of us poor benighted souls and you literally telling a victim of sexist bullying as a child that you "don't give a fuck" about her is pure and righteous.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 08/11/2021 20:15

Oh dear.

Go read some John Dunne

I hope this isn't going to be one of those exclusionary cultural references that only middle class Americans know. Wink

somewhereoverthechipshop · 08/11/2021 20:15

Yes it’s very offensive, and pointless! Luckily I have never been called it in real life, I’ve only seen it used online. If it becomes common parlance I will never answer to it!

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 20:16

Have a look at how @Helloise has been treated. That’s what I’m talking about.

I am quite sure that everyone can see where the aggressive posting is coming from.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 08/11/2021 20:16

Hilariously (at least to me) my autocorrect keeps trying to autocorrect cervix to crevice. “Crevice havers”

That is funny 😀

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/11/2021 20:16

Helloise has been treated like Helloise treated many of the women on this thread. Or better.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 08/11/2021 20:18

I’m not keen on ‘you lot’ either

I don’t think there is a ‘you lot’, in any part of this discussion

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 20:19

Then the attempts to derail any cogent argument

Please refresh my memory, has their been any attempt at cogent argument as to why any woman should be called 'cis', particularly if they reject it as a prefix?

TrevorFountain · 08/11/2021 20:19

'Cis' gender? 'Cis' woman?

No Thank You.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/11/2021 20:20

I'm pretty sure it's against talk guidelines to make sweeping generalisations that are personal attacks or misrepresent people's views.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 08/11/2021 20:20

Please refresh my memory, has their been any attempt at cogent argument as to why any woman should be called 'cis', particularly if they reject it as a prefix?

Does ‘if you dont use it then you are transphobic’ count?

beastlyslumber · 08/11/2021 20:20

No, women who tell other women her opinions and thoughts aren’t valid and her existence as a non-XX female don’t count are bullies.

Please quote the posts which have done this @thatonehasalittlecar. I think you've made this up, but it's possible I've missed some comments. Please quote so that we can report those comments.

If you're making this up, and therefore can't quote anyone saying anything remotely like this, then please apologise. It doesn't help anyone to lie and smear people. It makes you look like you haven't got any actual arguments.

TaliaB1 · 08/11/2021 20:20

Then if you 'don't give a fuck' about women being oppressed (as if it wasn't obvious from your posts you 'don't give a fuck' about women being abused and oppressed), then you shouldn't be offended if we 'don't give a fuck' about TW's experiences. It goes both ways. If you can't give a fuck about women, don't expect us to give a fuck about you and your side.

You get what you give. You reap what you sow. Etc.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 08/11/2021 20:20

Oooo

Does ‘be kind’ count?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/11/2021 20:20

Please refresh my memory, has their been any attempt at cogent argument as to why any woman should be called 'cis', particularly if they reject it as a prefix?

Yes, I must have missed those arguments too.

Sidehustle99 · 08/11/2021 20:21

I am a woman. I am not a cis woman. I have not changed myself. I have no problem with anyone identifying as whatever they want, but I do not appreciate anyone changing my identity.

I absolutely do not need to announce with a flourish my pronouns to the world. I have breasts not chests.

Pronouns tell you nothing of note about an individual. A trans woman can have the pronouns she, they. Again it tells you nothing of note and is therefore irrelevant. Moreover who actually cares?

I was raised with the saying 'she' rather than a persons name was rude -'she' is the cat's mother - this saying dates back to the mid 19th century or earlier.

Can we just get back to calling people their names please? And yeah I am a woman - deal with it.
