Blatantly posting for traffic.

If you didn't grow up in England... do you know the music man song?

Or is there anyone who did grow up in England and doesn't know this song?

There's a good reason why I really need to know this, I promise.

I'm in Scotland and I was taught it in primary school over 30 years ago.

My kids also sing it at nursery.

minipie · 02/11/2021 18:34

I grew up here and I do know it now, but only from hearing it during DC’s childhood, never heard it during my own. Not sure if that helps or not.

Simonjt · 02/11/2021 18:35

I moved to the UK when I was 8, I have no idea what the music man song is.

Itsnotgreatlike · 02/11/2021 18:35

Yes, I know it, but I'm not from England.

Dragonsandunicorns · 02/11/2021 18:37

I grew up abroad and I know it and sing it to my children.

ShinyMe · 02/11/2021 18:39

I grew up in Wales and I have no idea what it is.

I know it!! And I live in England. I remember it from when I was a kid but I haven't heard it here in the U.K for decades 😳. On holiday in Spain it's on every night as part of the kiddies entertainment.

Cocomarine · 02/11/2021 18:48

Yes, sang it as a child in England in the 70s, and seems even more common when mine were young in the 00s.

SingleHandSue · 02/11/2021 18:50

Holidays to Pontins as a kid so I definitely know this song!

And the Crocodile March

DahliaMacNamara · 02/11/2021 18:53

When you say England, do you mean exclusively England? I can't see why it wouldn't be known in the rest of the UK.

Tobchette · 02/11/2021 18:54

So imagine you are in an Irish pub, some city in Europe on a Friday. It's karaoke night. Late enough that everyone has had a few and the pub is full.

Some crazy lady gets up on stage and sings the music man. Doing actions and everything.

Is it a hit or a flop?

Is everyone singing back asking what can she play?
Or is she singing to a crowd of confused and disturbed faces?

This is a fairly standard nursery rhyme type song in england. I'm sure most children know it nowadays. And I knew it as a child and I'm in my 30s.

Vio-vio-vio-lin ... thanks for the ear worm OP!

helpfulperson · 02/11/2021 18:58

Even if people didn't know it it is any easy song to pick up. 8m guessing the response was b. What a miserable lot.

LittleMG · 02/11/2021 18:59

Never heard it til I met my husband, and I was a music teacher!!

Coffeeisnecessary · 02/11/2021 19:01

What a fantastic image 😂

iklboogiemaninthecloset · 02/11/2021 19:01

Did you she do the Dambusters 'goggles' action - or the aeroplane wings?

SalmonEile · 02/11/2021 19:02

The wiggles do a smashing version of it
I’m Irish and we sang it in a Playschool I worked in 20 years ago

Cam2020 · 02/11/2021 19:02

Know it and hate it. Would probably be amused if someone sang it at karaoke but would not join in!
