Blatantly posting for traffic.

If you didn't grow up in England... do you know the music man song?

Or is there anyone who did grow up in England and doesn't know this song?

There's a good reason why I really need to know this, I promise.

@Tobchette that is an absolutely awesome image you’ve conjured up! I’m very sorry to hear you’ll be laid up and I hope you recover soon. Your husband is trying to comfort you and o think it’s actually really lovely that Music Man is your little in joke.

I hope one day you get all the whiskey, all the craic and all the crowd up dancing to Music Man 😊🎤🎼

zukiecat · 02/11/2021 21:54

I'm Scottish and I know it, grew up hearing it, my DC know it too

julieca · 02/11/2021 22:02

Never heard of it.

ChrissyPlummer · 02/11/2021 22:09

I think everyone when I was growing up had the Black Lace LP ‘Party Party’, so had you appeared in the north west of England to a crowd of 40-somethings then we’d have been singing along and doing the actions!

FOJN · 02/11/2021 22:17

Born and raised in England and never heard of it until this evening.

I hope you get to be karaoke queen soon. Flowers

wertheppl · 02/11/2021 22:28

WinterCarlisle · 02/11/2021 22:50

The song still gives me The Rage but after reading your update @Tobchette please let me know when and where you’re singing it and I’ll come cheer you on and buy you a Guinness.

Get well soon Flowers

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Oh that's a bugger. I have it it on reasonable authority that this was this exact song that Cliff had chosen for this year's Christmas single/hit...with the sole remaining Chuckle Brother (Paul) doing the actions in the background. Oh well, it's back to the drawing board then, although Sparky's Magic Piano is due a comeback... Remember you heard it here first. 🤫
God I remember Sparkys Magic Piano!!

Tubby the Tuba anyone?

The Birdy Song haunted my childhood

Boo65 · 02/11/2021 22:52

@littlepeas
A: down your way

Pedalpushers · 02/11/2021 22:53

It's well enough known that Ocado did a version of it for their marketing years ago.

Oca oca ocado ocado ocado groceries from Waitrose oca ocado

Champagneforeveryone · 02/11/2021 22:53

@SingleHandSue

Holidays to Pontins as a kid so I definitely know this song!

And the Crocodile March

I know The Music Man as well Wink

TaraR2020 · 02/11/2021 22:54

Flowers to you, I'm so sorry you're having such a hellish time.

Let us know the pub and a load of us will come down and sing with you Grin

Fuckitsstillraining · 02/11/2021 22:58

I'm Irish, 50's and never heard of, not from my school days or my children's. Irish pubs usually have a wide variety of nationalities so I hope at least some knew the song for the (brave) proformer.

Xiaoxiong · 02/11/2021 22:59

I know sparky and tubby, but have never heard this!

However it sounds very similar to the chorus of the 1978 Muppets silly song UPIDEE:

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/11/2021 01:01

I used to know someone who say it in Welsh. So assuming it’s a thing in Wales!

Anordinarymum · 03/11/2021 01:07

@PooWillyNameChange

Yes I do know the music man, as it happens, he comes from down my way.
What can he play?
thecombineharvester · 03/11/2021 07:59

I grew up in Wales, am in my early 40s, and I learned this in primary school. In our version he comes from 'far away' rather than 'down your way', though!

Maybe that means he's English?? 😂 Wink

hangrylady · 03/11/2021 09:58

I know it but I'm not sure if I remember it from my childhood, just from toddler groups since I've had kids I think!

Vodkaskirts · 03/11/2021 10:10

I remember it from Black Lace and kids parties

Also I am sure the Tweenies used to sing it Cause I used to try and make my son dance and do the actions with it. He is 21 now

Also is it not a Haven/Campsite sure it is sing along

Vodkaskirts · 03/11/2021 10:11

btw I would of defo sung along and done the actions as well. Esp if I had had a few drinks down me neck

LemonKitten · 03/11/2021 11:19

Umpa umpa umpapa, umpapa, umpapa...

Family party staple - we're British, born in Yorkshire

OtherPlans · 03/11/2021 11:21

I didn't grow up here so will have to educate myself!
