This isn't a guy who has allergies or anything, it just came on all of a sudden.
I legged it after an hour or two of his random coughs and sniffles. AIBU here or should he have buggered off to WFH after the 3rd or 4th cough? Fun, the wait begins!

Ffs.... No someone does not need to go home from work after coughing 4 times and sniffling... 🙃

CocaColaTruck1 · 28/10/2021 17:29

There's more than just COVID out there you know?

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 28/10/2021 17:30

Was his cough a persistent cough? Did he have a raised temp etc...

What you’ve described is a common cold, these existed before covid.

qualitygirl · 28/10/2021 17:30

Ffs 🤦‍♀️

ColinTheKoala · 28/10/2021 17:31

It might not even be a cold, he might have got something up his nose that made him sniff and cough! It does happen (well to me, anyway).

Haha, oh is it? Shall we inform WHO they're wrong then?

Yes, very persistent. Why would I check a 45 year old man's temp??

Seeing as the rule is you're not welcome in the office with any coughs, runny noses, weird headaches, fevers or sore throats where I work, I clearly know I'm not being unreasonable in the slightest.

But it's eye-opening to see how people still don't get it. Well, on mumsnet anyway (and this one asshole).

How can he just “bugger off to WFH”? Who can unanimously decide that? Surely that would get him sacked.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 28/10/2021 17:34

How on earth do you know he doesn't have allergies? It might just be me but in all my years of work unless it's a life threatening allergy I can't say this information is something I freely share with my coworkers. Confused

confettiballoons · 28/10/2021 17:34

No you’re being ridiculous.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 28/10/2021 17:36

I’ve said YABU because he may have already tested.

TheBlackHeart · 28/10/2021 17:38

This place gets more ridiculous by the day.

User135644 · 28/10/2021 17:38

have you ever worked in an office before? There's always someone sniffing or coughing nearby.

CocaColaTruck1 · 28/10/2021 17:39

I clearly know I'm not being unreasonable in the slightest

So what's the point in this thread?

Because we've been colleagues for a very, very long time and I've sat next to him at least a couple of thousand times, 8-10h a day, 5 days a week up until covid.
OP posts:
PinkWaferBiscuit · 28/10/2021 17:42

Eh, he can.

Yeah because that's exactly how real life works. You're talking nonsense, your company wouldn't take long to stop operating if everyone with a cough simply got up and went home.

Although still curious as to how you know his medical history.

Snaketime · 28/10/2021 17:43

YABU, people have worked with colds for many years, because it is a cold, they do still exist, all other illnesses didn't go extinct the second Covid came along. I currently have a cold and I am still working, because I DO NOT have a choice. I have done multiple LFT's and a PCR all negative.

And??? Why would that mean you knew if he had allergies? He might quite rightly have chosen not to share that information with you.

I do know he doesn't have fucking allergies.

Why ask if you're being unreasonable, and then announce that you know you aren't? You are, by the way. Coughs and colds continue to exist.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 28/10/2021 17:45

I don’t see why he can’t just work from home if he can anyway. In fact why can’t everyone? Why do people need to be crammed in an office? It’s unnatural and mostly not necessary.
