This isn't a guy who has allergies or anything, it just came on all of a sudden.
I legged it after an hour or two of his random coughs and sniffles. AIBU here or should he have buggered off to WFH after the 3rd or 4th cough? Fun, the wait begins!

You asked whether you're being unreasonable... why??
You have sworn at responses, you've been defensive and rude, and outright said 'you know you're not being unreasonable' - so wtf was the point of your post?!

I think if you were that worried and you've really known him for so many years, and well enough to know about all his allergies - you could have been honest and asked him to WFH because it was making you uncomfortable and can't afford to get sick.

Highly entertaining reading your responses, thanks :-)

icecreamcrackers · 28/10/2021 18:42

To be fair I think op has a point, I've just had covid as has my son and daughter and the only symptom we all had was a snotty nose and slight cough.

Was told by track and trace alot of people are now having only mild cold thing symptoms. If I hadn't tested I'd have been none the wiser. No temp at all either.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 28/10/2021 18:42

@generalh

Yes, and if my new fave person Anton had anything like that, I would have known and would have thought absolutely nothing of it.
The guy the other side of me coughs daily. He is asthmatic. It doesn't worry me, though at some point it could be covid and probably will be.

However, by that point I'm probably not pregnant anymore or right in the middle of completing a project that is delayed and has seen everyone's annual leave cancelled already.

I think MN should add another branch to AIBU called "I am convinced I am not being unreasonable but just want validation". AIBU is for discussing whether or not people find the reaction reasonable. I don't really understand the motivation for posting on AIBU when the OP is so averse to listening to other viewpoints.

OP, if someone started randomly coughing next to me in an office, I admit I'd probably be a bit concerned right now. However, you have been such an unmitigated knobhead on your own thread, it's rather embarrassing.

Suzi888 · 28/10/2021 18:45

We can’t just go trotting off home after every sniffle. Flipping eck, you’d get the sack.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 28/10/2021 18:46

I think op needs a Biscuit and a nice cup of Brew

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 28/10/2021 18:46

@Imnothereforthedrama

I did see all I saw that you complained to him not your line manager.
I was in a teams meeting. I couldn't talk to anyone. Even if I could, my LM is in France. He had already left for the day when I started thinking it wasn't that harmless.

The thing is, we had the quarterly company wide meeting this week where they hammered these rules and guidelines in once more. Any type of symptoms and you're staying home or leaving if in the office. Yet some won't listen. One could think I work with mumsnetters.

I’m not even gonna bother, as clearly you think your being reasonable —you’re not—

I work for a large organisation (over 1000) who are mostly all back in the office, we’ve had a few people been off with covid, (less than 10 since August) however some also with common colds, none of my colleagues would be going home and getting a PCR due to random cough and sniffles and it certainly isn’t seen as the norm to get tested with common cold symptoms.

You can still work with a cold, wash hands, sneeze/blow into tissues and discard, sanitise working areas etc... taking 3x weekly LFT. You know having measures in place not just for covid but general health in general.

MilkCereal · 28/10/2021 18:48

Haha no! I'm a teacher every child in my class and my staff all were coughing sneezing etc. Just carry on as normal like everyone else and get a grip! We're been doing this throughout and no children vaccinated.

Pandaly · 28/10/2021 18:49

it certainly isn’t seen as the norm to get tested with common cold symptoms. it is in my office if you have a cough or temperature

Yeah, I have got quite angry with the blasé attitude people still have towards this virus. There's a threat of restrictions, maybe even lockdowns. But who cares right? My next project will be canned if they ban us from travelling next year. But who cares, there's only about 30 jobs in the balance if that happens.

Only one, who thinks covid is fake pretty much. I don't deal with him if I can avoid it.

*Yeah, he had a runny nose though, didn't he. You're the one reading the guidance wrong, wtf are you on about. Show me where WHO says 'runny nose fine as long as accompanied by persistent cough' pls 😅

It’s clear your comphrension skills are extremely lacking, I have not even remotely suggested or insinuating WHO have advised this Hmm - quite the opposite actually!!

Themadcatparade · 28/10/2021 18:52

Everyone's got a cold, the sniffles, the lurgy and run down at the moment - there is loads of things going around. If we all stopped, it would be chaos.

I went in to the office today 4 days after looking after my Dd who had a vomiting bug. Full of cold sores I am, run down, queasy myself. Was I being unreasonable for going in? If I was I would have been off since mid august because I'm run down with something different every week. We need to get on with things now

Gonna have to agree to disagree.

Escapedgoats · 28/10/2021 18:53

I agree with you totally OP. We would be expected to WFH with cold symptoms. I currently have Covid - started as a rapid onset cold. Also very faint line on LFT before positive PCR, another sore point on MN.😊

lifeinlimbo2020 · 28/10/2021 18:54

If you feel like this really you should just work from home.

PinkMoon22 · 28/10/2021 18:56

Only one, who thinks covid is fake pretty much. I don't deal with him if I can avoid it

But it doesn't matter what he believes, if your office has a policy he would need to follow that?

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 28/10/2021 18:56

@lifeinlimbo2020

If you feel like this really you should just work from home.
Or, and just hear me out on this one because it's a pretty radical idea, the twat with symptoms could.

Working from home is terrible for the next few weeks anyway. Neighbour is ripping out part of his house.

OP posts:
Caelus · 28/10/2021 18:56

OP I would not like this either and there is no way of knowing whether it's a cold or Covid. However, I do increasingly think that it isn't that bad for the vast majority of people and we've all been scared shitless, mostly unnecessarily. For now, we've just got to get on with it until the govt announces Plan B (if this ever happens). Unless you're in your third trimester of pregnancy or otherwise extremely clinically vulnerable, I don't think there is much to be done really. I wouldn't be pleased if someone next to me started to cough persistently and appear full of cold but people have to assess their own state of health and risk now and act accordingly, which he did.

OnlyGin · 28/10/2021 18:57

Agree. You sound like you'd be fucking awful to work with or just generally know OP. Not even because of your OP. But the way you've replied to poster's since is absolutely cringe worthy.
