This isn't a guy who has allergies or anything, it just came on all of a sudden.
I legged it after an hour or two of his random coughs and sniffles. AIBU here or should he have buggered off to WFH after the 3rd or 4th cough? Fun, the wait begins!

@JesusIsAnyNameFree

Seeing as the rule is you're not welcome in the office with any coughs, runny noses, weird headaches, fevers or sore throats where I work, I clearly know I'm not being unreasonable in the slightest.

But it's eye-opening to see how people still don't get it. Well, on mumsnet anyway (and this one asshole).

This is the rule in my office, unless you have a negative PCR test. So yes, I would get up and leave the moment I had a 2nd coughing fit.

@turnthebiglightoff

Typical OP "AIBU" MN "YABU" OP "no I'm not!!! You're all wrong!!"
Not quite though, is it.

You're the people that will throw hissyfits if and when plan B gets implemented as well. It's actually baffling.

Get a grip.

turnthebiglightoff · 28/10/2021 18:28

No hissy fits here, I am 100% a home worker! Grin

Pandaly · 28/10/2021 18:28

Even if it is a cold if you give that cold to two others then they also have to go off and get a PCR test when they get a cough.

Lemonsole · 28/10/2021 18:29

My covid started with precisely those symptoms. And they came on quickly - far more so than is usual with a cold. Apart from tiredness I felt fine. The cough/ breathlessness has been part of the longer term covid gift that keeps right on giving.

I'd have avoided him too.

Ah, but according to the very intelligent people of mumsnet, I should get a grip 😂 they've sure told me.

No it’s absolutely still a symptom however with the delta variant I think a cough isn’t even on the top 5 (or is number 5) of reported initial symptoms of the covid delta variant, which is rarer then the original variant.

I believe WHO and PHE reported this back in June/July.

Having a new persistent cough is a symptom that you would need to isolate for and get a PCR test.

SquashMinus · 28/10/2021 18:32

I feel like this thread could be about me if it hadn't mentioned a male colleague. I inhaled some mushroom soup at lunch, and after the initial spluttering I got that weird persistent throat clearing feeling. Managed about 30 minutes of occasional coughs before a colleague casually mentioned that I needn't stay in the office if I was coming down with something. So, I'm sorry if it was me, I just nearly drowned myself with a tin of Heinz and it's very unlikely to be contagious Grin

Yes, but people don't seem to get that on here. So many times you see people say "it's just a coooold". Yeah that's great, but I still can't leave DS at daycare if he has your cold before he has been tested and I will need to prove I'm negative as well as husband because even though we can work from home and do 2 days a week, they still want us in 'for reasons' and want proof of testing.
OP posts:
Pandaly · 28/10/2021 18:33

@daisypond

How can he just “bugger off to WFH”? Who can unanimously decide that? Surely that would get him sacked.
I can. If I sit there untested and coughing I can face disaplinary
HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 28/10/2021 18:34

Again a runny rose is not random “sniffles”.

Yabu for being so unpleasant to people that disagree with you

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 28/10/2021 18:35

@HesterShaw1

You're deranged.
You'll need to explain why I think, unless you just want to look a bit silly throwing out one liners that you, presumably, think are gutting.

Op if its work policy and you are so outraged then why didn’t you just report it to your line manager rather than wait one to 2 hours and then come on here tell everyone who thinks your being ott they are wrong . if it is work policy wouldn’t they have sent him home ? .

Why would you sit there sucking your snot back inside if it wasn't runny.. What do you think sniffles are?

I cough a lot as I have a hiatus hernia and suffer awful heartburn.

Any coughs? That's ridiculous. If my office was as strict as that I'd never be allowed in as I cough with allergies. I'm currently coughing after having a cold and it will linger for weeks. I'm sure some people think I shouldn't leave the house!
Twelveshoes · 28/10/2021 18:38

It feels really odd that people are still getting so overly-anxious about this.

I was in the vulnerable group and worked in a public facing role throughout the pandemic. If I went home every time I had a cough I would have been sacked.

Yesterday a woman was shouting at a man in the vet’s waiting room because she thought his mask wasn’t on tightly enough. It is like a different universe.

And no, I have never told a work colleague that I have allergies that cause a respiratory response.

Poptart4 · 28/10/2021 18:40

@driftcompatible

He coughed four times and your manager didn't shoot him in the face?

It's staggering how lax people are becoming tbh. You should be burying his body right now not telling us about your workplace incompetencies on mumsnet.

Thanks

😂😂😂
Imnothereforthedrama · 28/10/2021 18:40

I did see all I saw that you complained to him not your line manager.
