Nandos is not nice!

I had a voucher for £25 so took the kids. Thought I might actually enjoy it too as everyone seems to love Nandos, right?

Major disappointment. The only nice things were the halloumi strips starter (can’t go wrong with halloumi) and the ice machine next to the free water.

Chicken - don’t know as I’m veggie. DD ate hers.

Veggie options - v poor. Choice of bean burger or pea protein burger. I had the latter. Tasted of grey sadness with the texture of tripe. Partner had bean burger and said it was rubbish.

Chips - undercooked, underwhelming.

Hummus - cheap and lacking in flavour. No evidence of olive oil or garlic present.

Frozen yoghurt- synthetic vanilla frothy nonsense. Really unpleasant.

Service - ok but there were no actual menus and I was the only person with a phone so I had to read out the whole menu to everyone, with endless requests for repetition and clarification.

I went to Nando’s a couple of times pre-kids - maybe 10 -15 years ago - and I thought it was nice! Has it gone downhill? I’m sure they used to have better veggie options too.

Grump.

Some places have taken away menus because of covid - cross infection. Other than that I've never eaten there and won't as i'm veggie too. Nothing worse than a horrible veggie meal.

Waspsarearseholes · 25/10/2021 10:20

I went for the first (and last) time about three years ago. Did not get what all the fuss was about. At all. YANBU.

WheelieBinPrincess · 25/10/2021 10:22

I have no idea how you thought something called a ‘pea protein burger’ would be anything less than horrible.

OppsUpsSide · 25/10/2021 10:23

I hate it, I went out for food once with a friend who refused to eat anywhere other than Nando’s and then only ordered a side of chips! Couldn’t blame her considering how awful the food is really but she could have had chips anywhere and I could have had a decent meal somewhere else.

CoalCraft · 25/10/2021 10:23

I haven't been since pre-pandemic but I love it, so unless it's taken a really bad nosedive in the last 2 years or so, YABU!

But then I am not veggie. Can appreciate your stance if the veggie options are not good.

GoodnightGrandma · 25/10/2021 10:23

My DS is vegan and eats there all the time.

MasterBeth · 25/10/2021 10:25

Chicken restaurant is disappointing to vegetarian!

TinnedPotatoesRock · 25/10/2021 10:25

I don't mind the occasional Nandos, I have half chicken, peri chips and macho peas - can't go far wrong with that. It's not amazing food but it's OK

furbabymama87 · 25/10/2021 10:26

I went for the first time in about 7 years. I thought it was ok but wasn't as nice as I remembered, it didn't have as much flavour. I got the coleslaw and it was just pieces of dry cabbage in hardly any sauce.

CallMeRisley · 25/10/2021 10:26

I’m a vegetarian and I really like the beanie burger at Nando’s, because it’s an actual bean burger rather than these “fake meat” type ones that are everywhere now.

crumblebug · 25/10/2021 10:27

It's nice if you're not vegetarian

StupidPhones · 25/10/2021 10:27

Yanbu.

EdgeOfTheSky · 25/10/2021 10:28

A fast food place that specialises in and brands itself on its chicken menu is never going to be great for veggies, surely?

Did they have the char grilled sweet corn?

Anyway, Nando’s is a cheap chain using mass produced chicken, what do you expect? Chicken eaters like the spicing etc, my Dc used to go all the time, but I know 2 people who have got food poisoning at Nando’s.

Bathshebahardy · 25/10/2021 10:28

My family love it but I am not too keen. The service has improved. It used to be awful, extremely slow. The chicken is dry and nothing special. The chips are just ordinary. I don't think it is bad but it's not my choice.

bigbluebus · 25/10/2021 10:28

I eat meat and I wouldn't go to Nandos - or indeed any of the other chains churning out poorly sourced mediocre food.

Fairyliz · 25/10/2021 10:29

I’ve never been so can’t comment; but in my head I’ve got the impression it’s cheap fast food based around chicken, so I wouldn’t go there as a vegetarian.

ItsSnowJokes · 25/10/2021 10:29

@MasterBeth

Chicken restaurant is disappointing to vegetarian!
Exactly what I was going to post! It's not the go too place if you don't eat meat!
SpangoDweller · 25/10/2021 10:29

I have a soft spot for Nandos but I mostly eat the chicken; sides and non-meat options are of low interest to me! It‘a very much a “needs must” destination though, if there are no other options.

HeidiHaus · 25/10/2021 10:30

YANBU, I cannot understand the hype at all!

biggirlknickers · 25/10/2021 10:30

I didn’t comment on the chicken. Everything else was disappointing too!

Its an upgrade of fast food with trendy interior decorations and a host to seat you
Good as an introduction to "formal" dining but the vegi menu was never great as the idea is you dump a load of the sauce on to flavour what you are eating

If you are vegi you will always do better finding small chef/cook run places where those cooking can adapt their menu to your needs

LetHimHaveIt · 25/10/2021 10:31

I like the veggie options at Nando's.

CoachBeard · 25/10/2021 10:31

I'm not a vegetarian but I really like the bean burgers at Nandos. The quality of their chicken and side dishes has definitely declined since covid though.

biggirlknickers · 25/10/2021 10:31

Also, I went because I had a £25 voucher and because my DC are not vegetarian.

My mum says the same😂 says she rather go to Morley's (a chicken and shop shop in South London) then spend money in Nando's at it fills her up more! She also says she doesn't get what the fuss is about.

To me, Nando's is simple. Wouldn't arrange to go there with my friends but if we wanted somewhere cheap to have a catch up or was already outside and were hungry, we'd just go Nando's. Not terrible but nothing to rave about either!
