Nandos is not nice!

I had a voucher for £25 so took the kids. Thought I might actually enjoy it too as everyone seems to love Nandos, right?

Major disappointment. The only nice things were the halloumi strips starter (can’t go wrong with halloumi) and the ice machine next to the free water.

Chicken - don’t know as I’m veggie. DD ate hers.

Veggie options - v poor. Choice of bean burger or pea protein burger. I had the latter. Tasted of grey sadness with the texture of tripe. Partner had bean burger and said it was rubbish.

Chips - undercooked, underwhelming.

Hummus - cheap and lacking in flavour. No evidence of olive oil or garlic present.

Frozen yoghurt- synthetic vanilla frothy nonsense. Really unpleasant.

Service - ok but there were no actual menus and I was the only person with a phone so I had to read out the whole menu to everyone, with endless requests for repetition and clarification.

I went to Nando’s a couple of times pre-kids - maybe 10 -15 years ago - and I thought it was nice! Has it gone downhill? I’m sure they used to have better veggie options too.

Grump.

The chicken is dry amd mushy. Awful! I will never understand the popularity of Nandos!

Sparklfairy · 25/10/2021 10:33

I used to like it, but realised I just like the sauces. I find it expensive for what is essentially glorified chicken and chips, and it irrationally annoys me you have to go up and order rather than them come to the table when they charge so much.

Cuntness · 25/10/2021 10:33

Their red pepper dip was amazing. They've stopped that now so I've stopped going.

Arseholes.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 25/10/2021 10:34

It’s awful - and I eat meat.

Cannot understand the appeal and never going back. When a group of us used to eat out regularly, two of us stopped going if it was Nando’s.

iheartredsquirrels · 25/10/2021 10:34

Only been once and not impressed, over rated and pretty average.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 25/10/2021 10:35

You didn't like it. I love nandos. Chicken is good, fits in with every diet, low fat.
You can get in, eat and leave. I think of it as good fast food rather than a restaurant meal.

HaveACarDoh · 25/10/2021 10:35

They've added some horrible new red sauce to everything that tastes vile!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/10/2021 10:36

I think the thing is it’s a chicken restaurant

The chicken is nice

Fetarabbit · 25/10/2021 10:36

I really like it, but admittedly haven't been for ages! We used to go a lot at uni as I think the price is reasonable for the amount of food you get, and tastes really nice. If you don't eat chicken I suppose the options are a lot more limited and probably not as nice! It does seem to vary a bit between branches as well, especially when it comes to the garlic bread...

Noshowlomo · 25/10/2021 10:37

I’m veggie and love Nandos. Didn’t they have the vegan chicken.. I always have that in a wrap with chilli jam.

Vbree · 25/10/2021 10:37

I love Nando's! Hit and miss sometimes but overall pretty good for the price.

galacticpixels · 25/10/2021 10:37

I don't go very often but when I do I usually get their beanie burger in a wrap with cheese, which is really tasty. And I love their mash.

hennybeans · 25/10/2021 10:37

I completely agree, op. I find Nando's food is never more than lukewarm. And I think it's expensive for what it is, half restaurant/ half fast food.

I am veggie and the bean burger is so boring, mushy and not hot enough. It's the kind of thing I'd have stashed in my freezer for when I don't want to cook. I understand chicken restaurant = no good for veggies, but there are a lot of veggies now and a frozen bean burger doesn't cut it anymore.

And I can remember the chicken burgers from my pre- veggie days as well. They were ok, but nothing special.

We only go one in a blue moon when teen/ tween DC have convinced us. It's them that Nando's appeals to mostly.

BackBackBack · 25/10/2021 10:38

It's OK. I used to eat meat and now don't - their chicken was nice enough but the veggie options are a bit underwhelming. I only ever go there now if I am part of a group and the consensus is to eat at Nando's - as a veggie a chicken restaurant is not my first choice of eatery!

The one thing I really don't get though is Nando's chips - they are utterly rubbish and always have been. Undercooked, floppy and anaemic-looking.

FangsForTheMemory · 25/10/2021 10:38

Halloumi is minging.

You should have sent your DC with someone who isn't vegetarian.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 25/10/2021 10:38

My exH and I used to go to Nando's pretty regularly if we had a day out to York. It was ideal for both of us one a meat eater and one a vegetarian. The portobello mushroom and hallumi burger is lovely and a definite change from a normal veggie bean burger that has way too much spice inside it to make taste somewhat decent.

KilledByWitches · 25/10/2021 10:39

I went for the first time last week. DH had been before and didn't rate it so said I'd be disappointed, but I really enjoyed it.

IntermittentParps · 25/10/2021 10:39

I like it. I have the chicken (hot) and usually macho peas and some chips. My DP likes the pea protein burger. For the price I think it's good; you get quite big portions and the chicken is always delicious.

Dixiechickonhols · 25/10/2021 10:39

We went on Saturday. Teen likes it (she’s fussy) and it’s Slimming world friendly. I think it’s expensive but it was nice. We got paper menu or on phone. We shared halloumi, she had chicken & fries and I had this.

Queenoftheashes · 25/10/2021 10:39

Used to love the super green burger and the halloumi mushroom wrap but they are no more. Nando’s has gone downhill. I do always have perinaise at home though.

WheelieBinPrincess · 25/10/2021 10:40

You need peri salt on the chips.

Santastuckincustoms · 25/10/2021 10:40

They are fantastic with allergies. I could eat there when I needed to be dairy, soya, egg, oat and gluten free. They scrub down the grills especially for my DC's meals and they do triple checks of the dietary requirements. Very very few restaurants in the UK are as good for allergies.

heywassuphello · 25/10/2021 10:40

YABU it's amazing

WellLarDeDar · 25/10/2021 10:40

I always thought nandos was overrated and never got the big delio over it.

thetombliboo · 25/10/2021 10:40

@Cuntness it was amazing my favourite.

If anyone has a recipe for the red pepper dip please share.

Op could you not have just passed your phone around the table?
We eat in Nando's because it's easy. Sometimes it can be hit and miss but I never go in expecting a fantastic meal. It's just somewhere to grab food and I like the reward card.
