Nandos is not nice!

I had a voucher for £25 so took the kids. Thought I might actually enjoy it too as everyone seems to love Nandos, right?

Major disappointment. The only nice things were the halloumi strips starter (can’t go wrong with halloumi) and the ice machine next to the free water.

Chicken - don’t know as I’m veggie. DD ate hers.

Veggie options - v poor. Choice of bean burger or pea protein burger. I had the latter. Tasted of grey sadness with the texture of tripe. Partner had bean burger and said it was rubbish.

Chips - undercooked, underwhelming.

Hummus - cheap and lacking in flavour. No evidence of olive oil or garlic present.

Frozen yoghurt- synthetic vanilla frothy nonsense. Really unpleasant.

Service - ok but there were no actual menus and I was the only person with a phone so I had to read out the whole menu to everyone, with endless requests for repetition and clarification.

I went to Nando’s a couple of times pre-kids - maybe 10 -15 years ago - and I thought it was nice! Has it gone downhill? I’m sure they used to have better veggie options too.

Grump.

I only go for the chicken. If it weren't for that I wouldn't bother so can see as a vegetarian it would be crap.

I went once about 3 years ago while on holiday because everyone talks about it but I'd never been. Food wasn't that great. had an upset stomach through the night. will never ever go back

I don't get the fuss either. Last time I went they kept me waiting outside for 15 mins but when I got inside there were loads of tables available. It wasn't busy at all and wasn't at opening time, so I'm not sure why that was.

I also hate all the having to sign in before you go in and use my phone to order. I get they started this with Covid but nowhere else is doing this. I have an old phone and it drains my battery.

I haven’t been for ages... used to love it although I also liked the chicken was shocked to see they’d taken them off I love the peri peri chips and the chicken thighs.

It’s just so blah.
My 3 dc love it and often ask to go there for a lunch out if we’re out at the shops. There or five guys.
Nandos is very mediocre and I resent paying £80 for lunch for the 4 of us for something I have to queue up and order myself, or order on the app, go and get my own cutlery etc, go and fill my own drink up… plus I don’t like eating what I can ‘crap chicken’ (non free range, they use U.K. chicken but from Moy Park and the like).
It always seems a bit sticky and grubby in there, I don’t get my dcs excitement but I do take them sometimes as they really like it, there’s something everyone will eat.

I don't think it pretends to be anything other than it is... Basic chicken and chips. They are never going to put effort into their veggie offering.

It's the type of place a 14 year old would love.

I quite like nandos as a veggie. I have a halloumi and portobello mushroom wrap. Can't really go wrong with that.

Realise last post sounded really snobby, we do go to nandos sometimes or get a full chicken on deliveroo. I like it but it's not a special meal

Went once, 15 years ago in New Zealand. Driest chicken I've ever had. Never bothered trying it since.

When it first opened in the U.K it was lovely, now it is just bloody awful

I mean I'm not sure what you expected going to a chicken restaurant as a veggie. And I'm not meaning that in a mean way, I'm stating it as fact. I love the chicken there and have always liked the chips. It sounds as though you had an unlucky batch of chips and hummus!

I quite like the veggie options at Nandos. I usually have the peri peri chips or the sweet potato wedges,
the sweet potato, quinoa and feta bowl, the great imitator wrap (the plant based chicken isn't too bad at all really). I also have the spicy rice with the garlic and chilli broccoli, halloumi.

I don't really have the beanie burger. I think I had it once years ago.

It has gone down hill. Years ago you could get a decent meal. The last one we had the chicken was cheap and stringy and it now upsets my tummy.

I was very disappointed with Nando’s about 10 years ago and have never been back.

Not at all related but went to Yo Suishi yesterday for the first time since lockdown and it was just grim. No bowls on the conveyor belt and a limited menu on the phone, so instead of everyone gleefully salivating over the passing food and grabbing bowls and happy chattering, we were all looking at our phones. Sad.

I’ve no doubt that this has been said but it’s a chicken restaurant. And you’re a vegetarian. You probably wouldn’t enjoy that, no.

I think it has gone downhill too , the chicken in the pitta is now chunks and everything we had chips ,rice etc was a different temperature .

I like their macho peas and chicken thighs

I am not a veggie but really dislike nandos! I would rather be in my guilty pleasure of KFC or an actual restaurant. For me I find it a really poor fast food joint that doesn't really fit anything. I suspect it's a love or hate it place

Never been to Nandos (described by some as 'Cheeky') and your review has not persuaded me my decision was wrong. So thanks for confirming my good choice.

Dd2 and dd3 are both veggie and love nandos saysbthe bean burgers are great and they like the halumi fries (and I disagree its easy to mess up halumi often way overcooked or seasoned)

I like it on a similar way I like the occasional macdonalds

It’s a low cost relatively fast food chicken restaurant. It’s not like they claim to be culinary geniuses.
