Nandos is not nice!

I had a voucher for £25 so took the kids. Thought I might actually enjoy it too as everyone seems to love Nandos, right?

Major disappointment. The only nice things were the halloumi strips starter (can’t go wrong with halloumi) and the ice machine next to the free water.

Chicken - don’t know as I’m veggie. DD ate hers.

Veggie options - v poor. Choice of bean burger or pea protein burger. I had the latter. Tasted of grey sadness with the texture of tripe. Partner had bean burger and said it was rubbish.

Chips - undercooked, underwhelming.

Hummus - cheap and lacking in flavour. No evidence of olive oil or garlic present.

Frozen yoghurt- synthetic vanilla frothy nonsense. Really unpleasant.

Service - ok but there were no actual menus and I was the only person with a phone so I had to read out the whole menu to everyone, with endless requests for repetition and clarification.

I went to Nando’s a couple of times pre-kids - maybe 10 -15 years ago - and I thought it was nice! Has it gone downhill? I’m sure they used to have better veggie options too.

Grump.

I took my son to Wagamamas the other week...he is vegan so it was his choice...I was really underwhelmed....not my thing at all.

I don’t like they bring the food out at different times in Wagamama, for me it should all be brought at th same time. I think th food is good though,

Spicy chicken is what I cook when I'm feeling super lazy. Nandos chicken is always worse than homemade so I doubt I'll bother going again.

People saying why go to Nando’s as a vegetarian are obviously not vegetarians. Nando’s was always one of the better chains for vegetarians, with multiple options that integrate well with the rest of the menu. It’s disappointing if they’ve gone downhill.

I’m veggie and love the bean burger, it’s so good! They also did an amazing super green burger which sadly was discontinued because of COVID.

I've never had it. Still baffles me what could possible be 'cheeky' about what looks like mostly chicken, some chips and some side salads.

I love Nandos...I have extra hot chicken in a pitta with a slice of pineapple!

How is it a surprise that a cheap, chain food restaurant with appalling welfare standards offers bad food?

A Peri chicken based restaurant is going to be disappointing to a vegetarian.

Did you ask for a menu? Paper menus are handed out when requested.

I went to the one in Leith, near Britannia several years ago. I’d never been to a Nando’s before. It was dark, dirty and incomprehensible to the uninitiated. I had a soggy wrap with sauce covered chicken in it and some undercooked chips. I didn’t like it. Would give it another whirl somewhere else, as the dark lighting and filth is perhaps not representative of the entire chain.

I think they vary. One near us had alright food, but hasn’t reopened except for takeaways since Covid. Another in our nearest city is awful, overcooked dry chicken. A third that we’ve been to has nice food but plays the music so loudly that it’s unbearable to visit.

Ds loves it so I take him sometimes even though I’m not that bothered.

I think the appeal is the chicken and not too expensive. So by being a vegetarian you've missed the main part that appeals to some I'm afraid.

I'm not a vegi but I've also been rather underwhelmed with Nando's. I think I've been 3 times and each time I think hmmm it's nice enough but not amazing and certainly not worth the money!

Can't say YABU or YANBU as:

• I've never had the yogurt
• never had anything veggie
• always have wings and corn on the cob which are both delicious.

I'm not vegetarian but I always get the beanie burger when I go to Nandos, I love it!

We have never been to Nando's so have no idea what the food is like. I don't think I'm missing though.

I haven't been for a number of years. It's just fast food really. I don't expect much from it.

Not read the full thread.. but I went there on Friday for the first time in ages and it was delicious!
I'm veggie and I had the pea protein wrap...it was so nice!
It was recommended to me by my friend who did say the burgers aren't as good. So that could be the issue.

Within ten minutes of finishing any sort of processed meal or chinese takeaway that contains a fair bit of MSG I have a head full of snot and can't stop having to clear my throat of mucus. feel like I am drowning in my own phlegm.

Then I can't sleep, feel completely wired and can even get palpitations, like having too much caffeine.

The chips are meh but the broccoli and mash are gorgeous, I always have that with the chicken thigh fillets (medium). Mmmm want a Nandos now.
