I usually wait until November at least to try and save a little money but it's so cold, I want to give in! 🥶

Thread number 798,000 on when to put your heating on 🤣

It's your heating, they're your bills, be kind to the environment (jumper & warm socks first, don't put the heating on high then open all your doors & windows etc) but beyond that do what you want with your heating in your home.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/10/2021 13:13

We put ours on yesterday but instead of having it on all day we’ve put it on for 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evenings.

HoldingTheDoor · 24/10/2021 13:17

What is it with this site and heating? It's insane.i've never known any other forum where people feel they have to ask for permission to put their heating on. What's next? Posting that you're hungry and that you normally eat at 7 but it's 6 and you're not sure if you can hold out so what should you do?

Lazydaisydaydream · 24/10/2021 13:19

Two hours in the morning and three in the evening??!! Id maybe consider putting the heating on that much if it was snowing or something…. I had no idea other people put their heating on for so long every day Shock

maybelou · 24/10/2021 13:21

I know they're my bills and it's my money etc but I just want to know I'm not alone in wimping out of dealing with my cold house Grin

I often have mine on for longer in Winter. Personally I prefer not to have icicles hanging from my tits.

I was brought up to think and decide for myself!

I put mine on when needed, leave it of when not needed. Hopefully this is useful in helping you decide...

HoldingTheDoor · 24/10/2021 13:23

It's not "wimping". What a weird attitude. Is it wimping out to eat when you're hungry or drink when you're thirsty?

rrhuth · 24/10/2021 13:24

Of = off

TrickOrTreat21x · 24/10/2021 13:38

Mines been on for two weeks but I live up north and the temperatures are already hitting the minuses.

Your not a wimp. It's your home, your bill. 😂

AssemblySquare · 24/10/2021 13:56

@Lazydaisydaydream what kind of hero do you think you are? Not heating your home properly is really unhealthy!

TurnUpTurnip · 24/10/2021 13:57

Why’s there so many of these threats I’ve seen loads, put it on if you are cold you don’t need permission, mines been on for months

Scarlettpixie · 24/10/2021 13:58

Mine is on.

Put yours on if you want to.

CallMeRisley · 24/10/2021 14:10

Life’s too short to be sitting there cold

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 24/10/2021 14:11

YANBU it's fucking freezing.

HazelandChacha · 24/10/2021 14:13

Our thermostat is set to 15.
I’ve got extra socks and a jumper on but it’s not so cold that the heating has kicked in, although I did hear it come on in the early hours.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/10/2021 14:14

Mines been on all month and stays on all day when I'm working from home. I'm not sitting there freezing!

I mean, what do you want, a medal? Confused

If you're home all day, you're in your house (awake) for around 16 hours - having the heating on for all of five hours is hardly extravagant!

ChorizoJacketPotato · 24/10/2021 14:20

My heating is set to 21 degrees all year round and it comes on when it falls below this. Done.

Blinkingbatshit · 24/10/2021 14:21

Mines been on 2 weeks - do it!

Meloncurse · 24/10/2021 14:33

My heating is on year round, if it falls below a certain temp when we're in the house and awake it comes on whether it's June or December. This 'extravagance' costs us less than 50 a month (including hot water)

Floralnomad · 24/10/2021 14:36

Surely this depends on your house and your finances . I don’t like being cold so if I need my heating on in any month of the year it’s on but I don’t worry about the bills .

RampantIvy · 24/10/2021 14:36

It seems to be a badge of honour from some mumsnetters to make themselves a martyr to the cold.

Our thermostat is set at 20 in the living room. If it falls below that then the heating comes on.

I don't cope well in cold weather. Just putting on another jumper doesn't cut it for me. I need the ambient temperature to be warm enough to function properly. We don't have the heating on at night unless it is about -10 and there is a danger of pipes freezing.
