To put the heating on?

I usually wait until November at least to try and save a little money but it's so cold, I want to give in! 🥶

@TurnUpTurnip

Why’s there so many of these threats I’ve seen loads, put it on if you are cold you don’t need permission, mines been on for months
I wonder if there was a box I missed when I signed up that asked me if I'm incapable of deciding if I'm cold and to agree to not making any basic household decisions without posting about them even if there have already been 2338 threads already. Grin

See also answering the door, charging working children board and people sending messages while you're asleep GrinGrin

Here we go again, another thread asking strangers on the internet if tthey should put the heating on. Every house is different, temperature can vary hugely depending on where you live, what kind of house even the difference between the bottom of a small hill and the top will be different by a couple of degrees. Every person is different in their tolerance to cold
All these threads do is bring out the competitive how little can I have my heating on posters

Cocomarine · 24/10/2021 14:46

@SpookyPumpkinPants

Thread number 798,000 on when to put your heating on 🤣

It's your heating, they're your bills, be kind to the environment (jumper & warm socks first, don't put the heating on high then open all your doors & windows etc) but beyond that do what you want with your heating in your home.

Make this a sticky MN please !!!!

I understand people saying, “bloody hell it’s cold, anyone else putting heating on earlier than usual?” but I will never understand people asking “permission”.

mygenericusername · 24/10/2021 14:47

On all year at 21. Turned up to 25 today while I lay in the lounge with no socks and a t shirt today.

I can feel the judgemental pants of the mumsnet heating police being hoisted past their armpits but I care not a jot.

My house, my money and I hate being wrapped up in 20 layers of itchy wool.

Do whatever you want op.

LittleDandelionClock · 24/10/2021 14:49

@maybelou

Why wouldn't you put the heating on if it's cold? Confused That's what it's for! I put it on in JUNE if it's cold. What is this strange ritual that some people have on here, of insisting on switching off the heating on 31st March, and refusing to have it back on until the 1st of November?!

Whatever month it is, if it's cold, why would you not put the heating on? 😕

I agree with the posters above, ANOTHER thread asking if you should put the heating on............. Why? Confused

Someone posted this exact thread just 2 days ago, with the EXACT same title, and I found that just as bizarre. Confused

Where do you live that it’s as cold as all that? I’m down South and comfortably warm wearing t-shirt and jeans. I am menopausal and a couple of stone overweight though. Blush

Exactly!

I am all for money saving, but I refuse to sit in a cold house!

It was 2 degrees here the other morning when I left for work!
rainbowunicorn · 24/10/2021 14:54

@LittleDandelionClock couldn't agree more. It is ridiculous. I have been known to have my heating on in June if it is a bit chilly. I am also sitting today with the back door and window open as I am feeling warm after rushing around doing stuff and cooking.
These threads are tedious at best, they follow the same pattern every time.

Have a look at the national weather forecast. Location and altitude makes a lot of difference to the temperature.

We live on the edge of the Pennines, and get much colder and wetter weather than you do. It is currently 10 degrees and raining here.

Same here @rainbowunicorn I had it on through most of April, none of May, a bit in June, none in July as it was very humid here, and a few days in August as it was miserable. I think it went on several times in September, and has been on a few times in October so far. And like you, I don't have it on today! As you say, if you're cold, then put it on!

And yeah these threads are a bit tedious, as they keep coming up, with the same question!

I think 'shall I put the heating on' is a replacement for the tedious 'am I pregnant' threads, where a poster always asked 'am I pregnant' and then posted a picture of a negative pregnancy test!

samwitwicky · 24/10/2021 15:02

@maybelou

I know they're my bills and it's my money etc but I just want to know I'm not alone in wimping out of dealing with my cold house Grin

Then do a search before posting yet another thread on the same topic.

FFS.

Not only are they tedious but there is no logic in asking posters who aren't you, don't live inyour house, don't know your financial situation, know zero at all about you what you should do about your heating. It's just so weird.

Dontlikeveg · 24/10/2021 15:07

@HoldingTheDoor

What is it with this site and heating? It's insane.i've never known any other forum where people feel they have to ask for permission to put their heating on. What's next? Posting that you're hungry and that you normally eat at 7 but it's 6 and you're not sure if you can hold out so what should you do?
Loooooool..... exactly :)
Joystir59 · 24/10/2021 15:09

My hearing is on right now and has been for an hour,thermostat set at 16. I'm wearing a thick jumper and socks.

Dizzy1234 · 24/10/2021 15:10

Mines been on for weeks, I work hard and refuse to be uncomfortable at home, I have it on low it clicks off when it reaches the correct temperature, Im also wearing joggers, hoodie and socks, I care about the environment but also car about being cold

RAFHercules · 24/10/2021 15:18

I'm menopausal and live in shorts and a T shirt. Even in January I sleep with the windows open and hardly ever wear a coat. I could save a fortune if DH and the DC shared my internal thermostat but unfortunately they are completely nesh.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/10/2021 15:23

I can put on as many jumpers and pairs of socks as I want but if the air is still cold it's bloody miserable here!

PinkiOcelot · 24/10/2021 15:26

Just put it on. We put ours on beginning of October but have been able to turn it off when it’s warmer.

plinkplinkfizzer · 24/10/2021 15:31

@TheFairyCaravan

We put ours on yesterday but instead of having it on all day we’ve put it on for 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evenings.
Wow that is actually a lot , where do you live ? .
LittleDandelionClock · 24/10/2021 15:34

@plinkplinkfizzer

There's no such thing as having the heating on 'a lot.' It's all subjective.

Exactly. Is it just boredom? Or attention seeking? Do people want to start a new thread, but cannot think of a subject matter, so they rake up an old one? Baffling! Confused
