DD13 won't wear a bra

anicesitdownandshutup · 14/10/2021 19:10

She's a size 32DD so could do with the support, IMO. But she doesn't like bras. Obviously I can't make her wear one. I've read an article saying that not wearing a bra can make the muscles stronger so they won't droop. Her body, her choice.
Interested to hear from anyone else who has a DD with the same stance or who themselves don't wear bras.

If she’s comfortable and it’s not offensive to anybody, then she’s fine. How does she do PE?

MalteseBubs · 14/10/2021 19:15

Maybe she's a 34 D and her current Bra isnt correct hence feeling uncomfortable

Gladioli23 · 14/10/2021 19:16

Would a crop top suit her better? I use some really comfy ones from urban outfitters and they're much less annoying than traditional bras.

RoseMartha · 14/10/2021 19:16

My 14 year old is not keen, will usually wear crop top/sports bra though when out.

foxgoosefinch · 14/10/2021 19:17

Bralettes and soft crop top bras are very fashionable at the moment. Has she tried those?

Highflyingadored · 14/10/2021 19:18

I would recommend a sports bra or nothing with wires . Wired bras can feel horribly uncomfortable

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/10/2021 19:18

My Dd 13 won’t always wear one. She’s a B cup though, not sure if it makes a real difference to need.

U2HasTheEdge · 14/10/2021 19:19

Just a reminder to be careful before sharing stories about your braless teens.

Lots of trolls and pervs start threads like this.

Muststopeating · 14/10/2021 19:19

No advice as such but the Sloggi zero feel bra is amazing. I officially hate all other bras. It doesn't give loads of support but is better than none and has removable pads which can help on cold days.

I bought mine for sleeping in cos I was fed up of being caught in my jammies braless.

Holskey · 14/10/2021 19:20

Has she tried a sports bra or vest type? Not as much support but more comfortable. I think your OP has the right attitude though. I would be concerned that they'll droop and she'd be insecure/regretful when she's older. But then I haven't read into what you say about muscles being stronger, so maybe my concerns would be unfounded.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 14/10/2021 19:20

As a H/J cup who was a DD at about her age too she must be in agony. At ther age I hated bras as they were underwired and painful.

Has she said why she won't wear them? Is it embarrassment or pain maybe?

Can you maybe talk to her about sports style crop tops etc?

Suzi888 · 14/10/2021 19:20

I was a size 8, 34D and there’s no way I could go bra less. I’d find it more uncomfortable with no support. Plus I go running - should say used to go. How does she do PE?

Dalooah · 14/10/2021 19:22

Maybe it's the bra that's uncomfortable? If you've had her measured at M&S (I feel like this is the standard thing to do? My mum did this!) they're often incredibly wrong and fit you to one of their sizes. If she's a small frame with larger cups or a larger frame with large cups they usually get it wrong. I'd highly highly recommend bravissimo for a fitting if you have one not too far away. Maybe she'll change her mind? If she's got larger breasts she's going to want to support them and her clothes will fit better and flatter her figure.
Obviously she's quite young, is it maybe that none of her friends are wearing bras yet and maybe that's why she's reluctant

U2HasTheEdge · 14/10/2021 19:22

Why post this on AIBU?

Why are you interested in whether other teens wear bras or not?

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 14/10/2021 19:22

You're interested in hearing about teenagers breasts??

Coffeey · 14/10/2021 19:22

She needs something for PE

anicesitdownandshutup · 14/10/2021 19:23

Thanks.
She got measured in M&S and they said she's a DD. The bras she has aren't wired. She wears a bra for PE class.
We'll pick up some crop tops

My daughter usually doesn't wear a bra.

That's the end of that story really, not sure what else there is to say Confused

Seems so!
Awalkintime · 14/10/2021 19:24

Just let her decide. If she doesn't want to wear one, why push the issue?

Caramellatteplease · 14/10/2021 19:24

I bearly wear them anymore let alone DD!!!

crop tops and bralettes 90% of the time these days. Bras seem devilishly uncomfortable once you've converted

Good on your DD

Coffeey · 14/10/2021 19:24

Right so she does wear a bra then
MeadowHay · 14/10/2021 19:25

Are you sure that bra size is correct? Where was she fitted and how? If this wasn't with the Boob or Bust method it's likely not an accurate size. I would see if she will let you measure her first using this method or see if she'd go for a fitting at Bravissimo. If she's not wearing the right size that might be the main issue and is the most important one to address.

Has she said what it is about bras she doesn't like? Because there are sooo many types. Maybe she doesn't like padding, or underwires? I have no idea and ultimately of course she doesn't need to bother at all but it would be a shame if there was something specific that she finds uncomfortable that could be removed with a bra/bralette/crop top without the uncomfortable part that might make her feel more comfortable than even going braless. Things like Emma Jane sleep bras I'm thinking of that are just stretchy crop-tops essentially but I find that more comfortable over the course of a day than remaining braless all day. But obviously each to their own ultimately.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 14/10/2021 19:26

The bras I find most comfortable are randomly Primark’s crop top style ones with removable pads.

That’s your first mistake. Go on boob or bust on Facebook or take her to an independent who don’t use tape measures
