To not think it's funny for a teacher to share this

I have quite a few teacher friends on Facebook, some have taught my DC, some haven't. One of them regularly shares posts from a 'teacher blogger' but the content is always about the children. For example 'kids when you asked them to get changed for PE' then a funny video.
I don't know, it just sit right with me, what other job can you post videos essentially making fun of the people you work with?
I work with children and if I made a video like that and shared it on social media I'd probably lose my job.
But when a teacher shares it, it's funny??
Am I too uptight?

People do this about their own children. It's a joke! It sounds light-hearted and in no way suggests a lack of respect, care or professionalism. If anything, it suggests endearment.

StripeyBadger · 08/10/2021 20:33

I think you should unfollow your friends.

Dollywilde · 08/10/2021 20:33

I can’t get het up about it, they’re not talking about the actual kids they work with. A colleague of mine posted a video a while back along the lines of ‘when the heating goes on in the office’ and I found it funny, I didn’t think she was actually having a go at me for keeping spare jumpers in my drawer Grin

LizzieSiddal · 08/10/2021 20:33

Where are these videos from and who’s filmed them?

Hercisback · 08/10/2021 20:34

Is this like "when the kids get changed for PE" and then there's a gif of absolute chaos? That's funny cus it's true.

She's not insulting the kids!

PeachesPumpkin · 08/10/2021 20:35

YABU. It’s a hugely stressful job and a sense of humour is definitely needed as a coping mechanism.

Wolfiefan · 08/10/2021 20:35

It’s not about a specific child.
It’s true.
Wouldn’t bother me.

ThreeLittleDots · 08/10/2021 20:37

They are de-compressing. Teaching is stressful. Kids are pretty stupid and funny. It's a non-issue imo.

If you don't like what they post then unfollow them.

Twickerhun · 08/10/2021 20:37

As long as no one actually filmed the children getting ready for pe i think it’s fine. My team and I have jokes about our jobs all the time - mostly black adder clips

thistimelastweek · 08/10/2021 20:38

She's showing video pics of children in her care? On social media?

No school allows this.

Puffalicious · 08/10/2021 20:39

Oh FGS get a life.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 08/10/2021 20:40

@LizzieSiddal

Where are these videos from and who’s filmed them?
It isn't a video of kids. It is some woman on the XFactor making a lot of noise. (if it is the Mr P video I am thinking of)

The joke is that the minute you ask kids to do something quietly they make enough noise to wake the sodding dead.

Buttons294749 · 08/10/2021 20:40

Is this the life as an English English teacher in the US? He's funny, he's not laughing at the kids at all,

2lsinllama · 08/10/2021 20:41

So she is sharing them, not writing the posts herself? And the videos aren’t actually of the children she teaches? YABU - most of my teacher friends and I do this. You work with children so yes, if you put a video of them on SM you would lose your job, but presumably not if you just shared a post from one of the many teacher blogger type sites?
If it really bothers you then block/unfriend them

Plotato · 08/10/2021 20:41

Is it ICT with Mr P?

hippoherostandinghere · 08/10/2021 20:52

I'm laughing at myself really, I can see I am unreasonable! I do get that the videos are funny, kids do silly things, but I feel like after seeing the teacher sharing maybe 5 or 6 of these videos I need to tell my kid make sure you get dressed nicely for PE or you'll wind the teacher up. Don't leave out pages in your workbook or you'll wind the teacher up Grin
Maybe because my child is one of these kids it feels different, but then I am quite precious Grin

What other jobs are there videos making fun of those you work with?! Retail? Hospitality? Trades? Design?

Retail- loads of threads videos memes etc showing the customer is a dick
Hospitality- same
Trade- whole Facebook groups and Twitter accounts devoted to dick customers ( most common and clean example £10 for the job £20 of you want to tell me you could do it alone if you had the time £30 to watch etc)
Design - what a customer wants vs expects and how much their budget is memes are everywhere!

@Plotato

Is it ICT with Mr P?
I was going to say that, with the BGT video?
kittenkipping · 08/10/2021 20:56

Three memes as an example

To not think it's funny for a teacher to share this

BurntO · 08/10/2021 20:58

OP, life is too short to take everything seriously. There is no harm done. I’d bloody hate to be a teacher, let them have their no harm, teacher inside jokes and ignore.

MoiraRose4 · 08/10/2021 21:00

YABU. Hope that helps

CheesecakeAddict · 08/10/2021 21:08

My brother is an IT specialist and literally has an entire discord group for sharing memes about the IT illiterate.
There's also a meme page for social workers similar to the Mr P page.
I am in a writer's page and it's frequently got memes about people who ask for freebies (in return for exposure 🙄).

It's not just teachers.

MichelleScarn · 08/10/2021 21:10

I like (and relate) to this one!

But I don't actually think people are the worst... Well sometimes I do!

To not think it's funny for a teacher to share this
ThirdElephant · 08/10/2021 21:10

Even doctors are allowed humour about their roles. Sometimes, if you didn't laugh, you'd cry.

IactuallyHateMN · 08/10/2021 21:12

Maybe because my child is one of these kids it feels different, but then I am quite precious

Definitely precious OP Bear Xx
