To not think it's funny for a teacher to share this

hippoherostandinghere · 08/10/2021 20:28

I have quite a few teacher friends on Facebook, some have taught my DC, some haven't. One of them regularly shares posts from a 'teacher blogger' but the content is always about the children. For example 'kids when you asked them to get changed for PE' then a funny video.
I don't know, it just sit right with me, what other job can you post videos essentially making fun of the people you work with?
I work with children and if I made a video like that and shared it on social media I'd probably lose my job.
But when a teacher shares it, it's funny??
Am I too uptight?

As an aside, I do think it's interesting that, despite most primary teachers being female, a disproportionate number of headteachers, well known 'consultants' (eg. ABC) and teacher 'influencers' such as Mr P, are male.

Like when I see Mr P with his page, his INSETS, his book etc I always wonder if a woman would have the time, the opportunity, the confidence, to do all of that alongside the bog standard teaching career and everything else. Most female teachers I know are working their arses off just to keep the teaching career going alongside family life!

Brilliant point. Same in secondary: we have 1 woman out of 5 members of SLT and she doesn't have children. And they all seem to be bloody PE teachers too!

"Am I too uptight?"

Yes.

Yes. When women are in industries where they are the minority sex, its always been known that they have to work harder than everyone else to climb the ladder and get recognition and that they will face more obstacles than their male counterparts.

But when males are in the primary school sector, in my experience, sometimes it feels like they just have to turn up and just not be total shit to be lauded as 'a great teacher' and they often have the confidence and blag to make their rather mediocre teaching/planning/assessment pass (the number of times I have heard a male teacher say 'oh I don't bother with any of that' about fairly fundamental stuff, while the other teachers are all working really hard to ensure everything is done - in fact Mr P himself is often talking about stuff that teachers 'shouldn't be doing' whereas as in real life most teachers don't have the confidence to say 'I'm not going to do that'.)

Obviously I'm generalising here, and the above is probably for another thread, but Mr Ps success always makes me think of it!

desperate4spring · 09/10/2021 12:42

You work with kids OP? Ever tried to get 30 4yos changed for PE? If we didn't laugh we'd cry and we need the world to understasaaand!!!!

Pufflethecat · 09/10/2021 12:48

Wow.... Some really vile, rude people here! OP, your options are either to unfollow your friend or just accept that in all careers we honestly do have to laugh or we will cry (I'm work in care, and honestly, our senses of humour, well..... NSFW springs to mind) 😂

MrsFezziwig · 09/10/2021 12:59

@hippoherostandinghere

Of course I do, but what I don't do is display that frustration all over social media.
Well I haven’t seen any of them, so I think your contention that they’re “all over social media” may be slightly exaggerated. And obviously there’s a simple solution for anyone who doesn’t like what they see on social media!
2bazookas · 09/10/2021 13:03

A teacher posting a blog video of their pupils "getting changed for PE", would should very shortly face the sack and prosecution.

MrsFezziwig · 09/10/2021 13:10

This thread reminded me of the Joyce Grenfell monologues from the 1950s.

the80sweregreat · 09/10/2021 13:12

Our school let's the really little ones come in with their PE kits on in the morning!
I suppose it's chaos getting them to go back into their normal uniform though!
It's just a meme, working with children can be frustrating and hard work. If it's generic and not showing one individual child or whatever then I can't see much wrong with it really.

No one is posting a video of kids changing ffs.

It’s a meme. The Mr P video is ‘when my pupils are changing for PE’ and there’s a clip from X factor of a woman back flipping and doing the splits.

neonjumper · 09/10/2021 13:15

@hippoherostandinghere

Ok I can see IABU, but it's not just the sharing of the videos but then the discussions in the comments about 'oh this happened to me today' or 'that's so true' or 'everyday!'

I never share anything about my job or political opinions or anything that could be misconstrued on social media because I don't think it's the place for it.
To me, it just comes across that she gets wound up and frustrated by her job.

Then come off social media. You really are being very irritating by trying to justify your own unreasonbleness.

Luckily, this hasn’t happened and is not what the OP is talking about but interesting that you jumped to that conclusion.

How on earth did you get that from the OP?!
notacooldad · 09/10/2021 13:23

Bloody hell Op dont follow 'MrwilliamspreK'on Instagram if you think that was bad
'Ok, pre k pause! Caroline!
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Rosesareyellow · 09/10/2021 13:23

It sounds exactly the same as what many parents post about their kids. It sounds very light hearted - especially getting dressed for PE and other menial tasks that seem like no big deal but when you try to do them with kids, especially a class of 30, suddenly turn into an episode of The Cube. They’re not making fun of kids with serious issues like struggling with learning to read or those getting bullied. Lighten up.

I agree with you............except it didnt happen!

How very dare she Hmm

PicaK · 09/10/2021 14:05

You're bitching about Mr p ict?
Really?
I think that man has single handedly kept teachers in the profession over the last 2 years.
He's never posted anything nasty or mean or suspect - just someone sharing the humour and the love for his job.
My god I'd move schools to have that guy teach my kids!!

CoronaPeroni · 09/10/2021 14:24

Mr P is brilliant. I enjoy his piss-takes of staff best as all school workers can identify! E.g. actions when needing the photo copier, how adults sing in assembly, different ways of walking down the corridor etc etc. As others have said, it's not just schools, if you look there are all sorts of occupations that mock themselves on-line. Don't take offence, no one is targeting one child.

Kite22 · 09/10/2021 14:44

Lol @MrsFezziwig - Joyce Grenfell was exactly who I thought of.

It is just 'observational comedy' with a particular focus.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 09/10/2021 14:53

Which is why it doesn't happen.

Love that people don’t even get what memes are

It’s 2021 come the fuck on Bridget

I love that you pointed this out in the genuine thought that everyone else on here must have glossed over this and was defending some inappropriate teacher’s sense of humour.
