To not think it's funny for a teacher to share this

hippoherostandinghere · 08/10/2021 20:28

I have quite a few teacher friends on Facebook, some have taught my DC, some haven't. One of them regularly shares posts from a 'teacher blogger' but the content is always about the children. For example 'kids when you asked them to get changed for PE' then a funny video.
I don't know, it just sit right with me, what other job can you post videos essentially making fun of the people you work with?
I work with children and if I made a video like that and shared it on social media I'd probably lose my job.
But when a teacher shares it, it's funny??
Am I too uptight?

I work in retail and I've seen this video everywhere and had people send it to me.

lazylinguist · 08/10/2021 21:22

YABU. Don't be so precious! Teachers are just normal people. They are allowed to joke about their job, just like anyone else is. As long as they are not posting about actual kids they teach, what on earth is the problem? If you decide (for some bizarre reason) to take it as a personal reflection on your child or your parenting, then that's your issue frankly!

hippoherostandinghere · 08/10/2021 21:28

Ok I can see IABU, but it's not just the sharing of the videos but then the discussions in the comments about 'oh this happened to me today' or 'that's so true' or 'everyday!'

I never share anything about my job or political opinions or anything that could be misconstrued on social media because I don't think it's the place for it.
To me, it just comes across that she gets wound up and frustrated by her job.

Do you never get frustrated by your job? I regularly do, as do posters on here.

3scape · 08/10/2021 21:32

A LOT of people end up in careers that don't suit them at all. I see similar posts from parents saying they deserve a drink after having been parenting all day and taking the piss out of children. Some people's life choices just don't suit them.

hippoherostandinghere · 08/10/2021 21:32

Of course I do, but what I don't do is display that frustration all over social media.

You are WAY overthinking this. Step away...

IactuallyHateMN · 08/10/2021 21:53

We'll that's your choice as is hers. Just because she does this doesn't mean that she's not suited to teaching 😂 it's high stress high pace and humour is an essential outlet. If she was saying "F-ing this and that about the kids" then you'd have something to moan about I'd agree but she's not.

lazylinguist · 08/10/2021 21:54

The thing about funny stories about schools and teaching kids is that everyone gets what's funny, because pretty much everyone has been to school.

The only people who don't get it are people who think that when they became a parent, suddenly the world changed and must revolve around their precious child. They magically forget the reality of what it's actually like when 30 children are in a room together, or when chaos sometimes ensues. Suddenly it's personal, it's deadly serious and nobody is allowed to find it funny (even when it is).

A LOT of people end up in careers that don't suit them at all.

No doubt true. But you're very mistaken if you think the only teachers who laugh at silly stuff kids do, or share funny videos about that, are teachers who are in the wrong job. In fact any teacher who doesn't laugh at their own exasperation with their pupils sometimes is less likely to be able to hack it long-term!

toocold54 · 08/10/2021 21:54

I love a good work meme!!!

There’s parents memes too like ones about how exciting it is to go shopping alone or dog owner ones.
They’re harmless.

toocold54 · 08/10/2021 21:55

Also don’t worry about telling your kids to do something different, these memes are funny because it’s something that the majority of kids do which is why most teachers can relate. It’s honestly nothing personal Grin

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 08/10/2021 21:55

It's making light of what l imagine can be a very stressful job. Yabu.

DdraigGoch · 08/10/2021 22:10

what other job can you post videos essentially making fun of the people you work with?

Why do you think there are Facebook pages called "UK Cop Humour", "UK Paramedic Humour", "UK Firefighter Humour", "Server Problems & Restaurant humor", "Retail Humor"...?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 08/10/2021 22:13

If it’s Mr P, the man is a dude. The harvest samba video today was amusing, as I could picture a few staff I know pulling those moves, and know for a fact my youngest child would be even more flamboyant in his shape throwing.

Deep breaths :)

Rainbowsew · 08/10/2021 22:16

Blimey yabu, don't ever follow a NHS worker! Grin

GTAlogic · 08/10/2021 22:30

Dh follows a page about call centre problems.

My siblings follow pages about paramedic memes.

I follow a few teaching meme pages and think they're hilarious as I can relate to most of them. I love my job though.

Everyone can see and share the shit parts of their jobs despite enjoying the work itself.

Yabu.

Blimey yabu, don't ever follow a NHS worker!

After working subcontracting for the NHS , a lot of NHS workers cause Their own problems, willfully damage equipment and are negilent.

hippoherostandinghere · 08/10/2021 22:36

I'm not even going to tell you who I work for 🙈

Mickarooni · 08/10/2021 22:59

If sharing memes help people manage work stress, I can’t get worked up over it.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 08/10/2021 23:11

You really need to get over yourself.

Your kid isn't targeted. Your parenting and offspring aren't in question. This shit is common, universal and funny. The reason it's funny is because it's true and very relatable.

SpidersAreShitheads · 08/10/2021 23:13

Isn't humour one of the things most of us use to navigate through all the ups and downs of life?

I think as you're not singling someone out personally to be the butt of your attacks, good-natured humour is fine. Not only can it be helpful to you, it can be helpful for others to see too.

I think the Insta-perfect posts where people pretend that they have flawless lives are far more damaging than a bit of generic humour.

Hoppyhops · 09/10/2021 00:31

It’s just a joke. It doesn’t mean they are frustrated and hate their job/the kids. It’s simply sharing some common, funny, moments that others in the profession can relate to. They’re not being malicious or naming any specific people etc. Relax and, if it bothers you that much, mute their posts.
I would hate someone to be silently policing my personal social media account- I’d rather them just unfriend me!

Hankunamatata · 09/10/2021 00:51

Kids are funny. They do funny stuff. And yes getti g changed for pe is like trying to heard a gaggle of cats in and out of clothes
