To not think it's funny for a teacher to share this

hippoherostandinghere · 08/10/2021 20:28

I have quite a few teacher friends on Facebook, some have taught my DC, some haven't. One of them regularly shares posts from a 'teacher blogger' but the content is always about the children. For example 'kids when you asked them to get changed for PE' then a funny video.
I don't know, it just sit right with me, what other job can you post videos essentially making fun of the people you work with?
I work with children and if I made a video like that and shared it on social media I'd probably lose my job.
But when a teacher shares it, it's funny??
Am I too uptight?

Lots of jobs have related 'humour' and some of it can be quite dark, it's how you get through/cope with the job. I've heard nurses /police with really dark humour but a someone else said if you don't laugh you'd cry.
If you're not in the job it can be hard to see the joke. I was a teacher and kids missing pages is a definite - aaarrgh fgs type moment. You've told them not to, told them to check, come to mark the work, and it's not there cos it's 5 pages in. It doesn't really sting, it's not the end of the world, and I bet most teachers could say which kids it will be! It's just exaggerating the little things into something funny.

Kanaloa · 09/10/2021 01:39

Is it something like when you ask the kids to change for P-E, then a picture of a bunch of kids swinging around/acting chaotic? I think that would be fine, it’s just a generic joke.

Different if a teacher posted ‘when you see Jack McCormac from year 3 is arriving late to school again’ with an eye roll emoji. But a generic joke, it’s just a bit of a laugh, like oh what are they like.

Kanaloa · 09/10/2021 01:40

Have also seen one which is a picture from a zombie movie and it says ‘when you arrive to relieve the night shift workers.’ It was shared in the night shift group chat and we all found it a laugh.

@hippoherostandinghere

I'm not even going to tell you who I work for 🙈
MN, The Queen?
Scarydinosaurs · 09/10/2021 07:05

I think this is more about your job than her job.

Other people deal with work stress/treat SM differently to you…and that’s okay.

londonrach · 09/10/2021 07:09

Unless the video is of the children she teaching getting undressed yabu.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 09/10/2021 07:22

Um yeah, YABU.

motherrunner · 09/10/2021 07:27

I’m a secondary teacher but bloody love Mr P! His page, podcast and book are hilarious!

LubaLuca · 09/10/2021 07:33

I think people in all jobs post these sorts of memes. I have friends that do who are farmers, IT pros, shop assistants, care workers, armed forces...

They're not saying they're pissed off with a certain person, more 'this funny and/or frustrating scenario rings a bell with me, I thought somebody else might find it amusing'. You've thought far too hard about it. And now I have Grin

Teach234 · 09/10/2021 07:40

Seriously. Get a life.

Icecreamsoda99 · 09/10/2021 07:49

Your are being precious and unreasonable to expect teachers to enjoy teaching your children day in and day out. They are also allowed to find humour in the harder aspects of their job.

When I was primary school one of the most popular books was "Please Mrs Butler" by Allan Ahlberg which is a collection of funny poems aimed at kids and making fun of the way school children and teachers act, the title is taken from a poem where the teacher is telling the child to essentially sod off with their whinging, we as children thought it was hilarious.

Your kids don't care and more importantly they don't even see it!

chalamet · 09/10/2021 07:56

The expectation some people have of being completely professional at all times and never having a laugh about your job is one of the most annoying things about being a teacher. We are human, you know.

AllWaxedOut · 09/10/2021 07:57

People are so odd about schools and teachers.

It's bizarre!

NovemberWitch · 09/10/2021 08:16

Just stop following your teacher friends in social media.
And make sure that you let your opinion be known to every friend and acquaintance about their unacceptably flippant response to their job, be that teacher, medical or emergency services.
Make sure you hold parents to the same high standards. You may need social services on speeddial.

Developing a sense of proportion might be beneficial for you and your son.

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 09/10/2021 09:27

Oh FFS. I’m a teacher, the videos you mention are funny. Luckily you can’t see what my cousin who is an NHS nurse shares Hmm a sense of humour helps us through hard days at work!

CouldIhaveaword · 09/10/2021 10:46

As parents, we were never allowed to video school performances, and certainly not put them online. We had to sign consent forms for anyone to photograph our children. I thought it was be illegal to share this kind of material.

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 09/10/2021 11:01

Humour is a very healthy way to deal with frustration surely?! Also if it's Mr P he is great! Come on no-one must be imagining getting 20-30 5 year olds to change for pe as a highlight of the job. Grin

motherrunner · 09/10/2021 11:07

The OP isn’t talking about the videos of RL pupils, just memes.
motherrunner · 09/10/2021 11:08

I wonder how many non teachers will now be checking out Mr P? He’ll have a whole new fan base. I loved his ‘what is wish I could say to pupils but can’t’ video 😆

motherrunner · 09/10/2021 11:08

Peanutsandchilli · 09/10/2021 11:25

Don't see a problem with this. Plenty of parents post memes about the reality of parenting. I see no difference between that and the reality of teaching. It's light-hearted and probably shows that she's always thinking of the kids. That's a great teacher imo.

Mammyloveswine · 09/10/2021 11:41

Oh ffs op! You are being very unreasonable! I'm always sharing Mr Ps stuff, makes me howl!

I love my job but I definitely need to laugh to keel me sane some days!

EmoIsntDead · 09/10/2021 11:50

Fantastic, ANOTHER thing that teachers shouldn't be doing. Tell you what, why don't we all just go and live in the stationary cupboard in between lessons so that we don't offend anyone with our personal/social lives or harmless jokes.

Get over yourself.

Kite22 · 09/10/2021 11:56

Yes. YABU.
If it is winding you up, stop following them on social media.

They are not talking about any specific child or any specific parent or any specific incident, they are agreeing "this is typical of my life" in a way that makes most people laugh.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 09/10/2021 12:02

You are talking about ICT with Mr P, yes?

The memes and videos are really funny, and very true!

However, I do think that some of the comments underneath from teachers are quite unprofessional - obviously they are completely public and I think some of them could quite easily be linked to specific children/incidents. I would never comment on those posts unless it was something very general.
