Who starts to reply to a thread and then thinks 'Oh shut the f*ck up'?

I've been on Mumsnet a long time, under different names, different topics etc.
Interested to know if anyone else has written really heartfelt replies and then just deleted them. For me, it's not a confidence thing or the fact that someone has already had tonnes of replies. I can't put my finger on why I write and delete! Seems such a waste of effort.
Am I being unreasonable to do this, I should just reply and not care about the consequences (tendency to be a bit blunt when I write/shoot from the hip).

😂 I do this all the time!!

Either decide it's too outing, or I can't be bothered with the argument if the OP seems really argumentative.

YANBU 😊

RunningFromInsanity · 07/10/2021 23:07

Yep. Mostly because I can’t be bothered to get into an argument or because I know someone else will say what I want to.

Winniemarysarah · 07/10/2021 23:09

Yes. When I realise I’m putting more effort into the post than the op deserves because they clearly don’t give a shit

LordoftheDanceSaidHe · 07/10/2021 23:11

Yes. Or I just think, oh what do I know, really?

Not lack of confidence, just a knowledge that advice is so often about the giver and their situation than the intended recipient.

LegArmpits · 07/10/2021 23:15

Every day 😂
I care for approximately one second, then remember I don't.

GetInThereLewis · 07/10/2021 23:15

All the time! I'm vegan and manage to even piss myself off!

DimplesToadfoot · 07/10/2021 23:22

Me! All the time.

I'll write something then think, is it worth taking a verbal beating from someone who doesn't believe me, or takes offence or worse I spell something wrong, I then decide, nope! It's not and hit the back button.

M4J4 · 07/10/2021 23:23

I do this for a number of reasons:

  • adding my tuppence but then realising everyone else has already said something similar
  • realising my post is sounding a bit testy so better not to say it
  • knowing responding will just get me drawn into a long argument
Walkingalot · 07/10/2021 23:24

Ah, thank feck for that. Lots of like minded souls. I'm sure if someone had linked all my profiles they would think I've lived numerous lives! I've got an opinion on everything and my little typey fingers are tapping out a reply before my brain can engage and stop them!!!

OP posts:
LordoftheDanceSaidHe · 07/10/2021 23:25

@GetInThereLewis I'm the same. I'm constantly wanging on about veganism. I'm the same about my homegrown veg. I'm the person I used to roll my eyes about

MilesOfSand · 07/10/2021 23:26

Yes, also I think I just realise that a load of other people have also given their opinion, and what really is there that’s new to say.

PleasantFucker · 07/10/2021 23:26

I do this all the time!
I'll write something which makes sense in my head but then when I read it back it sounds stupid. And then I think someone else could word this so much better than I can. So then I just say fuck it and delete the whole thing.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 07/10/2021 23:27

Haha, yeah all the time. Even almost to this post, but here you go. I've probably deleted more replies than I've ever posted.

Sparklingbrook · 07/10/2021 23:28

I've done it loads. I sometimes delete it all then hide the thread because I realise I don't actually care enough to get involved after all.

SouthsideSally · 07/10/2021 23:29

@LegArmpits

Every day 😂 I care for approximately one second, then remember I don't.
Hahahahaha. Me too!
BeenHereForAges · 07/10/2021 23:29

All the time!
Im pressing "post" quick before I back out of this one!

Walkingalot · 07/10/2021 23:32

OMG, I see what I've just done! Lol.

To those that have read and not replied, I get you!!

OP posts:
KupoNutCoffee · 07/10/2021 23:34

Oh all the time.

Part of it, is what if my seemingly normal opinion is actually really controversial, and have started a virtual lynch mob against me.

Or conversely, no-one cares what I put anyway and it's basically like shouting into an abyss.

Or I worry someone is going to come and tell me off for commenting too much, on too many threads. Especially if I find threads with only a handful of posts, I feel like I'll be noticed for being too early.

Or that I've wrote an essay and honestly the threads probably moved on and it's irrelevant now...oh kind of like this comment Blush

SusannaOwens · 07/10/2021 23:36

But too often I don't take my own advice, then end up being the last person to comment. Susanna, thread killer. Awaits tumbleweed.

DogBirthday · 07/10/2021 23:36

Me Grin ('cept this one, obviously!).

TheGoogleMum · 07/10/2021 23:36

Sometimes I just can't be bothered to have an argument if someone disagrees so ill just shut up

Walkingalot · 07/10/2021 23:37

@KupoNutCoffee - I totally get you.

OP posts:
MichelleScarn · 07/10/2021 23:38

Oh definitely and have even more so since there seems to be a trend now for the op to do a massive drip feed or huge 180° and change their story and being abusive!

MazzleDazzle · 07/10/2021 23:40

I do this about 90% of the time.

Anordinarymum · 07/10/2021 23:40

Yes I have done this because what I have written is a hoot from the hip thing and i just think ah fuck it.

Some threads I can't even read because the OP is ranting, not using caps or commas and it is too much of a mind fuck

What really gets my goat though is when someone starts a thread and I reply more than once and it is a troll. I am so gullible some times and yet not all the time.

It's all part of the fun I suppose
