If care workers get fired for being unvaccinated…

Why not professional footballers? I’m struggling to be sympathetic with these spoilt men who want to keep getting massive salaries but feel that public health protection measures needn’t apply to them. AIBU?

How about.....

Some people dont want the vaccine for their own reasons and you mind your own business?

QuizzlyBear · 04/10/2021 17:22

I think the difference being that footballers aren't likely to pass Covid on to vulnerable people as a necessary part of their job, though...

OttilieKnackered · 04/10/2021 17:22

Footballers aren’t in close contact with vulnerable old people all day ffs. How can that not be obvious?

Magicalwoodlands · 04/10/2021 17:22

In fairness, professional football doesn’t bring you close to the elderly, who are the biggest risk factor.

Not that I agree with jobs being conditional upon vaccines.

EileenGC · 04/10/2021 17:23

Professional footballers don’t come into contact with dozens of elderly and/or vulnerable patients every day.

They work for their own private clubs, who are entitled to set whatever rules they want for their employees. Who aren’t taking care of vulnerable individuals daily.

HTH.

Stuffin · 04/10/2021 17:23

Other people's medical history shouldn't be anyone else's business.

Yes I am double vaccinated but I really don't care whether someone else chooses not for any reason.

Seesawmummadaw · 04/10/2021 17:24

It’s worlds apart op. You know this.

Kljnmw3459 · 04/10/2021 17:27

I just think that nobody should be fired or lose their job for refusing to take this vaccine.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 04/10/2021 17:29

The two aren’t even slightly comparable. A professional footballer isn’t performing intimate care for an elderly/vulnerable person. The same reason surgeons etc are required to have certain vaccines, but mechanics aren’t.

EileenGC · 04/10/2021 17:29

@Kljnmw3459

I think arrangements should be made for those people to work in a different capacity, if they’re going to be putting others at risk.

This is why I always spell check and sanity check my posts, just in case what I've written makes no sense...

Yup!
OtherInfo · 04/10/2021 17:31

Umm because footballers aren't providing personal care to our most vulnerable people.

I mean, I'm not sure about the vaccination for care workers either but really?

smallybells · 04/10/2021 17:33

If I can't drive through my local village over the 20mph speed limit when I'm going for my morning Starbucks, why can police with blue lights and sirens go above 70mph on the motorway??

Oh wait, different rules and two entirely unrelated things. 🙄

VladmirsPoutine · 04/10/2021 17:35

The thing is they might threaten to fire care home staff but as it stands (and it has for a while now) there's a huge need for care staff. Care homes are begging out for more staff so if they impose a no vaccine no work rule they'll need a continuation plan because it literally means leaving all your grannies and grandads sitting alone on their commodes. It's just not going to happen - they can 'encourage' it but doubt they'll mandate it as law.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 04/10/2021 17:36

I think it's pretty obvious why not and a few people have pointed out why just in case you aren't sure.

you don't agree with jobs being conditional upon vaccines?

since when?

nobody has ever protested before.

My job has been conditional upon vaccines 3 times in the last 30 years; it has never been an issue

What has changed? Why do people suddenly care now?

Yes, I heard the R4 interview where the new Health minister (what's his name?) was adamant unvaccinated care workers should be sacked. He was really quite aggressive in making his point and I was thinking so who's going to do the caring then?

In reality most staff will have the vaccination, but if care homes and agencies lose even a tiny fraction of one percent of staff, that's a lot of people to recruit, in an industry where recruitment is always tough.

TheKeatingFive · 04/10/2021 17:41

I don't understand this leap. What's it got to do with footballers?

Morgan12 · 04/10/2021 17:42

Well Harry Kane isn't going to be looking after my granny so...

5zeds · 04/10/2021 17:43

Well when being able to eat/sleep/wash is dependent on footballers I think we could revisit this. In the mean time I’d rather they minimised risk to those who DO need help with those things.

dworky · 04/10/2021 17:45

Oh come on, you honestly can't see the difference?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 04/10/2021 17:47

I think it should be mandatory for teachers as well....cue teachers giving a host of reasons why I'm wrong.

ilovesooty · 04/10/2021 17:48

@TheKeatingFive

Because there has recently been news coverage that several Premier League clubs are struggling to persuade their players to be vaccinated, and the Liverpool manager whose players are nearly 100% vaccinated has given a strongly pro vaccine interview.
ilovesooty · 04/10/2021 17:49

And the next World Cup is in Qatar and they are saying that they won't allow unvaccinated players to enter the country.
