To think that vigilante justice should be back on the table?

We give up the right to take personal revenge in exchange for being protected by institutions like police and courts.

When these institutions spectacularly fail women and children, can we consider the social contract broken?

At this point I'm struggling to see any other way to resolve male violence apart from a wide-sweeping free-for-all on every cat-calling, bantering, beating, raping murderer out there.

Is this ‘justice’ to be served before a trial?

What would stop a false accusation being made out of spite to dish out some justice to an spurned lover?

gardeninggirl68 · 04/10/2021 15:52

vigilante justice?no! not at all....are you mad?

Theoldprospector · 04/10/2021 15:53

How would that resolve it when they are more violent?

It has always been like this.

gardeninggirl68 · 04/10/2021 15:53

and what do you consider "fail"?

LateDecemberBackInLowB12 · 04/10/2021 15:53

I understand the sentiment, but no, that shouldn't happen. Aside from the reasons of innocent people being accused and 'dealt with' among many others, it would backfire on women and cause more violence against us.

Theoldprospector · 04/10/2021 15:55

The first and most important step to massively reducing male violence is to end the housing crisis.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/10/2021 15:55

Ridiculous!
It means wackos who are thick attack paediatricians thinking they're paedophiles.

ReeseWitherfork · 04/10/2021 15:55

Will there be capes?

YABU not to mention racially-fuelled police brutality.

ilovesooty · 04/10/2021 15:56

I can't believe this is serious.

hangrylady · 04/10/2021 16:02

Get real, We don't live in Gotham City.

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/10/2021 16:02

Ooh like on DeathWish, with Charles Bronson?

Great films if you fancy a laugh. Extremely violent but totally ridiculous.

pigsDOfly · 04/10/2021 16:03

Don't be ridiculous.

And how exactly, do you think out of control mod rule would solve the problem of violence against women?

MagnoliaBeige · 04/10/2021 16:04

So you solve violence with violence? Erm, there’s not a great track record of that approach working if I’m honest.

WhoIsPepeSilva · 04/10/2021 16:04

The people who want to be vigilantes out there beating up the "criminals" are not the people I want "protecting" me.

I question their motives, I question their intelligence and I question their ability to do a more effective job.

It's a good way to begin a free for all strong prey on the weak style of society though!

CatsArePeople · 04/10/2021 16:08

It may look cool in Hollywood films, but in real life we have laws for a reason. Like due process.
Look at those self-proclaimed paedophile hunters. They either go after and hurt innocent people, or mess up the evidence that it becomes inadmissible in court.

LobsterNapkin · 04/10/2021 16:08

Oh yes, when I look at places that work that way, I just think - so great! Especially for women and children! Hmm

Yankey812 · 04/10/2021 16:16

no but maybe they should bring back the rope

Squeakycatflap · 04/10/2021 16:17

Haha this site is turning it a collective of Mumsnet Mosleys. What a bunch of right wing nutjob losers.

ilovesooty · 04/10/2021 16:18

@Yankey812

no but maybe they should bring back the rope
No thank you. Civilisation really would have broken down in this country if that happened.
XenoBitch · 04/10/2021 16:19

YABVU
This just makes more criminals. Plus, you run the risk of almost killing someone who is innocent. Stupid idea.

CatsArePeople · 04/10/2021 16:20

I wouldn't mind if we were permitted proper self defense.

SouthSideSally · 04/10/2021 16:22

I get where you're coming from. It's the ultimate fantasy of the powerless to be able to turn the table on their oppressors. I was out walking the other evening and I imagined a pack of women roaming the streets hustling men into the back of vans or heckling them or just intimidating them. And how society might deal with it.

Is wanting vigilantes going about killing people that are accused of things left wing these days?

Given that every single reply disagrees with the op, that’s not a very rational conclusion to draw about the site.
AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 04/10/2021 16:23

Yes. YABU. I was appalled by what happened to Sarah Everard but that is not a reason for vigilante 'justice'.
