Yesterday bloke in checkout queue behind me had 8 sliced loaves and a tray of dog food tins.
And 3 bottles of orange squash

The sandwiches at his kid's party are going to be dreadful

I was thinking the same - dog food sandwiches Grin

I tend to buy lots of the same thing each week though as we are creatures of habit. So eg for DP alone, I buy 14 of the same yoghurt (which dont come in multipacks), 6 packs of chicken slices, 3 packs of bagels (plus more bagels more me and more bagels for DS).

LukeEvansWife · 01/10/2021 14:28

I am always amazed by people who notice other people's shopping.

RedskyThisNight · 01/10/2021 14:28

Were they on offer? I tend to stock up on staples if I see they are cheap.

Mrsjayy · 01/10/2021 14:29

Maybe sandwiches for his dogs Grin

Mrsjayy · 01/10/2021 14:32

I know someone who does 'picking' at Waitrose. One time he had to pick a shop for someone who had ordered £75 worth of crisps and prosecco. We couldn't work out why when we were talking about it. Even if you were having a party, JUST crisps and prosecco? I did enjoy speculating about it! I thought maybe it was like that episode of Friends when Monica gives Phoebe cups and ice to look after. "Just the crisps and prosecco will you John"? Oh if you want crisps and prosecco, crisps and prosecco you will get mwahaha!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/10/2021 14:35

I know what you mean! I think it’s just that people run out on unmatching things at the same time sometimes! And maybe they are people who shop in bulk. Or like to get offers.

I had my shopping delivered a couple of days ago and, as you know, they're not in bags anymore, just in crates and you have to 'decant' them into bags in the doorstep.

As soon as the delivery driver knocked my door, my elderly neighbour opened her door. She then proceeded to watch me empty each crate and commented on almost every item I'd bought! She then told another neighbour the next day (in front of me) what I'd bought!

OldTinHat · 01/10/2021 14:39

#on the doorstep!

x2boys · 01/10/2021 14:41

I was at Home Bargains last week, and the lady in front of me unloaded lots of small bottles of (of about 100mls) of olive oil, they were also selling large bottles of olive oil.

GiraffeClimber · 01/10/2021 14:42

Where someone buys loads of the same stuff it’s usually for a restaurant or cafe whose supplier has let them down. In my retail days we regular had people come in and buy 15 four pint bottles of milk, or 20 whole chickens.

Berkeys · 01/10/2021 14:42

Prepping! Those are the things he really doesn't want to run out of. Bread can be frozen.

Kneesaregood · 01/10/2021 14:42

I worked for a charity that provided a soup kitchen and drop in services, we got 95% of our stock from donations of items and the fare share scheme, and we'd buy the rest from the local supermarket.
Which is why you'd see us in supermarkets with for example, a trolly a third full of chicken fillets, a load of garlic, and the rest filled with sanitary products!

LavenderAskew · 01/10/2021 14:42

Yes, sometimes I do when I clock they have a huge amount of something.

My in laws but a LOT of milk (well in my opinion) and I've always poked fun at my MIL about it - minimum of 8 litres. Now I or DH does thier shopping for them and so have thier milk and ours in our trolly. I've just accepted that I'm likely to be one of those people whose trolley puzzle people!!

Werehamster · 01/10/2021 14:45

I love looking at other people's shopping.

The best I saw was two crates of dog food and a packet of condoms. 😱

Grenlei · 01/10/2021 14:48

I had a temp job working in Tescos for a few weeks one Christmas.

The trolley contents were one of the best bits of the job.

One day a man came in and bought some reduced potatoes. Except that's all he bought. And they were the big 10kg sacks. He had an entire trolley full (maybe 8-10 sacks). I'm all for a bargain but what on earth was he going to do with that many potatoes?!

I was stood behind a couple in Aldi the other day whose shopping basket contained:

6 x chickens
6 x lettuces
A big block of cheddar.

I was fascinated Grin

KittenKong · 01/10/2021 14:52

I do. Especially if they are in chefs whites and buying loads of ‘own brand’ sauces or cheap bread.

NotMyCat · 01/10/2021 14:53

We should share our shopping lists!

Mrsjayy · 01/10/2021 14:55

Somebody I know does cookery lessons/ meal kits for a charity that's something she would buy, it is quite a niche thing though.

MaverickDanger · 01/10/2021 14:55

I can remember coming back from work late one night & popping into Aldi next to my house to get some snacks. In front of me were 5 blokes in their 20s who were buying a crate of beer, some tequila, strawberries, whipped cream and a cucumber.

One of them turned to me and said …it isn’t what it looks like.

I’m pretty sure I know who ordered this
Soubriquet · 01/10/2021 14:56

I’m a picker for a supermarket and I’m always amazed by some bulk picks people have. I managed to fill an entire tote with tins of fruit. I’m talking 20+ tins of various fruit. Was brilliant for my IPH but still Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/10/2021 15:08

I was once in the queue behind a man who was buying a six pack of Newcastle Brown Ale and two large (at least a litre each) glass jars of sauerkraut. I could only think that he wanted to generate massive amounts of intestinal wind for some reason.

cricketmum84 · 01/10/2021 15:09

😂😂 dog food sandwiches!!

We don't buy any fruit or veg from the supermarket as I have a weekly delivery from a local company.

I always want to tell people that we do eat healthier than our trolley suggests when I see them looking!!
