Watching Keir Stammer on Marr this morning scrambling to answer whether or not it is transphobic to say “only women have a cervix” was the final nail in the coffin for me this morning with Labour. In the aftermath of The Lancet calling women, “bodies with vaginas”, I think I’ve finally figured out that the current belief system is that transwomen are women, but women who were observed female at birth are “bodies with vaginas”. Clearly Labour aren’t in need of the votes of bodies with vaginas, brains and a spine.

This is where it gets even more confusing, as some TW will say that surgery has given them a vagina which is just the same as anybody else's. So any body with a vagina doesn't mean what is being implied, either - if it was said 'a natural vagina' or 'a vagina that has not been created through surgery', that could be interpreted as being equally transphobic, couldn't it?

You don’t get to identify out of (or indeed into) womanhood and then insist that we remove or change all the language we use to represent ourselves because it makes you feel better. If you have a cervix, you’re a woman. If that’s a difficult truth for you to hear then that’s a pity, but it’s not my problem.

It's a way of using language to erase women - you know, people with cervixes and vaginas. The goal is for TW to be referred to as "women" while women - the class that produces large immobile gamates - will be referred to as "cervix havers", "vagina havers" and "gestators".

That about sums it up.

Perhaps we should all start using equally wrong terms for men, person with testicles, person with penis...... If women are denied their correct terms let's deny men theirs. Play them at their own game.

If he did, I’d have more sympathy if Labour actually HAD alternative policies rather than just shrieking that the Tories are awful and Labour will improve working conditions/save the Earth/insert other-nebulous-concept-here-with-no-policy-to-back-it-up.

I think women should stop referring to "vaginas" and use the more correct term "birth canal". This reminds everyone that the vagina is linked via the cervix to the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. And also to remind the function of conception and giving birth.

Do men every get called bodies with penises? Prostate Havers? Etc.

I'm curious how a gender critical person would like the medical profession to communicate with people who absolutely reject the title "woman", but do require regular cervical smears in the interests of their health?

It's a pretty live issue for me, since my eldest child would be in that category. I would certainly not want them to swerve vitally important health checks because of the language used.

I also really dislike "bodies with cervixes" ... but it's clearly not as simple as just saying "you're a woman" "no I'm not" "yes you are" ad nauseam until everyone falls out.
