AIBU?

It shouldn’t be said that “only women have a cervix”.

Watching Keir Stammer on Marr this morning scrambling to answer whether or not it is transphobic to say “only women have a cervix” was the final nail in the coffin for me this morning with Labour. In the aftermath of The Lancet calling women, “bodies with vaginas”, I think I’ve finally figured out that the current belief system is that transwomen are women, but women who were observed female at birth are “bodies with vaginas”. Clearly Labour aren’t in need of the votes of bodies with vaginas, brains and a spine.

@GCmiddle

It is the inevitable consequence of saying trans women are women, trans men are men, etc. Once you profess to believing that, you have to follow through and that means that you have to say you believe some men have a cervix and men can get pregnant, etc.
Politicians need to think through the consequences of these things at the outset to avoid making themselves look foolish later, but it's too late for most of them now. They can't backtrack now for fear of being labelled transphobic, so they are going to have to find another way out of the mess they have got themselves into and could easily have avoided.

This.
All this shit should have been shut down right at the beginning. People can identify and live as the opposite sex if they wish, and they should have the same rights as everyone else re employment, housing, services, etc etc, but no one else is under any obligation to go along with it, and certainly women should never be coerced into accepting transwomen as women. No one should be coerced into pretending it's possible to change biological sex, or that 'identifying' as someone different.
These boundaries should have been set right from the start, zero tolerance. I actually think it's a disgrace that politicians, health care workers, sports bodies and educationers have allowed themselves. It just makes them look fucking stupid, not tolerant or liberal.

I was a member of the Labour Party until this all started. Also a union. All over. All political ‘home’ gone for many of us women. Very depressing.

Starmer has taken a calculated risk on a strategy that he knows, absolutely knows, dehumanises, offends and hurts women.

So now I know that he is not a man of principle - nor a real socialist.

I joined the Labour Party and voted for Keir Starmer as leader, I feel very let down. We need to get the Tories out but that will never happen whilst Labour spout this nonsense.

I will never vote Tory,, but Labour and the Lib Dem’s don’t seem to want women to vote for them, which party can we go to escape this nonsense and be respected as women?

Bloody hell. Well that's a priceless quote from the transcript of the interview:

'The trans community are as I say, the most marginalised and abused of many many communities'

What is he (Starmer) thinking that he would come out with such complete bollocks. Surely, he can't honestly believe that?

I can only assume he's banking on the voting power of the trans community and the woke community outweighing the voting power of intelligent women.

Labour has lost my vote for sure.

Oh, how ironic that Starmer has tripped up over a question on cervixes, given that the Labour leadership are a bunch of twats. And I say that as a Labour-voting leftie. I want a party that can be a decent opposition to the Tories and have some policies that make people's lives better but they're too wrapped up in identity politics and ensuring no-one is feeling oppressed.

Christ on a tandem, they should have enough material to ensure that the Tories wouldn't get a sniff of a win at the next election. But instead they've disappeared up their own wokery while infighting to the death. I feel utterly let down (I had such high hopes of Starmer...) and their pig-headedness on the trans issue (have they forgotten that women have votes too?) leaves me completely politically homeless.

I would like to think that he's intelligent enough that rights shouldn't come down to a game of Top Oppression Trumps. But they're so terrified of people turning on them, and the Tories are just sitting back to watch Labour implode.

You’re so right PhiRhoSigma but honestly what is the alternative? I live in Scotland, there literally is no political party who can bring themselves to support women.

The most sickening part of The Lancet is that they did it to provoke. The tweets around black women in medicine posted a day or so later wasn’t black bodies with vaginas because they know how offensive that is, but it’s totally ok otherwise.

Transmen can have cervixes so it's not only women.

However, the argument has become so distorted that to suggest transwomen are in broadly the same category as men biologically and that transmen are broadly in the same category as women is viewed as blasphemous.

It's impossible to say "women and transmen have cervixes" because of the backlash so everything must be couched in terms of "cervix havers" otherwise it results in a barage of misogynistic abuse which is being whipped up by some men and some transwomen. And it only affects women and transmen because there isn't so much misandry on their side of the argument.

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious here, I'm trying to work through this subject myself and to understand everything that's happening and why.

@PanicStationsAhh

Well this "person with a cervix" (ffs Angry) won't ever be voting Labour whilst this sort of nonsense is being peddled!

Well I'm a "person who used to have a cervix and doesn't have one any more".

Still a woman. Why try to tie yourself into ridiculous linguistic knots about people with cervixes, uterus-havers, or pregnant people when there's a really useful word which works just as well.

WOMAN.

How is it transphobic to say the language of "people with a cervix" is inaccurate and wrong for many of us women who have had a hysterectomy.

I'd also wager - but just a gut feeling not statistics - that the number of women who have had a hysterectomy is greater than the number of transmen who have a female body but presenting as male.
