The idiotic Insulate Britain are at it again

Now they have blocked the port of Dover. On top of Lorry driver shortage and commodity supply issues, these absolute criminals are causing yet more damage to the supply chain. And who suffers? Joe Public suffers yet more price hikes because virtue signalling, well healed, are damaging the country so no benefit whatsoever. None at all. Hashtag less than 1% of global emissions

Will you refuse free insulation if they succeed then?

Sparklingbrook · 24/09/2021 12:33

Succeed in what though? My house is insulated so don't need any free.

Ilikewinter · 24/09/2021 12:35

But they wont succeed will they, the government is not going to give them what they want
Meanwhile they are causing chaos to normal people trying to go about their daily lives.

Theunamedcat · 24/09/2021 12:37

We already get free loft insulation what more do they want?

So far they have paralysed one woman and are trying to disrupt our supply line at a time when people are panic buying food and fuel due to rumours of shortages

What an idiotic comment. Free insulation for all - yay….. while food price inflation cripples ordinary people because brainless weirdos disrupt supplies chain…again. And for what, less than 1% of global emissions.

@Moneysavvymam

Lots of houses are already insulated, including mine, so in answer to your silly comment yes I will be refusing

Just like XR they will find the majority of the country fed up of their antics, as they can’t be grown up enough to try and talk( probably as means they need to engage a brain and listen and converse, and have a proper discussion with someone)

Like they would achieve that over and above what has already been rolled out?

They are quite literally asking the government to provide what is already provided freely to many people on a wide variety of benefits!

Summerhillsquare · 24/09/2021 12:38

Excellent. The more attention devoted to the climate crisis the better.

Annoyedanddissapointed · 24/09/2021 12:39

They won't succeed like this.
SillySausagee · 24/09/2021 12:39

Just worth noting that this "1%" excludes international air travel, international shipping and the production of goods and services that the UK imports from other countries.

If we think about how much of the stuff we buy everyday is made in, for example, China. We are contributing to the emissions of other countries as well. We are more responsible as a nation that the 1% figure makes it seem.

(I am not defending the actions of Insulate Britain)

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/09/2021 12:40

... and is already a legal requirement in new builds.

... has been a requirement in all rental properties for a while.

... is already present in many homes, often helped by previous grants.

... and on and on...

Annoyedanddissapointed · 24/09/2021 12:40

I will say this. There will be a moment when they take it too far and some poor driver won't manage to break on time.

They need to fuck off

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 24/09/2021 12:44

At least they have a specific and achievable ask unlike XR.

Many many thousands of homes are poorly insulated and very inefficient, wasting energy and leading to miserable living conditions for thousands of people, including vulnerable elderly and young people.
Our government are failing in their responsibilities to provide a decent standard of housing to people who need their help.

Exactly. This is going to end very badly. Either someone will have an accident or someone will reach the end of their tether and take it out on the ‘activists’

There is no such thing as free insulation.
ArblemarchTFruitbat · 24/09/2021 12:47

I agree with their objective but they are going about it totally the wrong way. It's simply unfair to penalise ordinary people trying to go about their daily lives.

MintJulia · 24/09/2021 12:57

They do have a point even if their actions are inconvenient.

We have vast amounts of housing stock that has not been updated with insulation.

Hundreds of people die each year in the UK from the cold. Heat loss adds very significantly to our emissions. There is no reason why the govt could not (at the very least) scrap VAT on loft insulation, double & triple glazing, insulated exterior doors, ground source heat pumps etc. Something has to change.

I've owned four homes in my life. I've had to replace these elements in every house. I'm lucky that I can but others aren't so fortunate. We need government to act and not with the ineffectual 'approved supplier' schemes that just allow unscrupulous companies to profiteer and rip people off.

Govt of all colours, local and central needs a kick up the bum.

Tangledtresses · 24/09/2021 13:00

Bloody idiots... they want to insulate leaky homes 😂😂😂

You can get free insulation if you are on a low income

GlobalForce · 24/09/2021 13:01

Due to damp proof course levels I can't insulate between my walls. Next door did and ended up with damp, they had to take off all the plaster inside.

JudgeJ · 24/09/2021 13:01

@Ilikewinter

All those idiots who can't be bothered to work but like to stop others. As someone said, treat them like speed bumos, they'll move soon enough.
JudgeJ · 24/09/2021 13:01

speed bumps

CityMumma78 · 24/09/2021 13:02

These protesters are all just lunatic extremists who are so blinkered that they believe they are in the right!!! They should be heavily fined or jailed. I’m fed up with them and their distribution to normal hardworking people going about their business!

Tangledtresses · 24/09/2021 13:02

But they wouldn't know that as I doubt any of them have ever lived on benefits or in a council house

The biggest kick up the bum sgould be reserved for these time-wasting idiots. What agenda will they invent next?
