To ask why so many M25 drivers seem to have a deathwish?

Drove DS back to Uni today, so drive half way around the M25 twice, OMG, some of the driving was bonkers - undertaking, cutting across lanes at 90+mph - so dangerous.

What makes people believe they are invincible? There were a number of long delays due to accidents and yet, some of the driving was dreadful.

We drove on 2 other motorways but it was only on the M25 that it was frightening.

I've recently driven into central London for the first time and was horrified. I'm used to most people following the rules, even loosely. But it was like every man for himself. Nobody had indicators, lots of cutting in front of people, intimidating people, running red lights, jumping past lanes of people and pushing in, swerving wildly, tailgating. I have never felt so stressed in a car.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 18/09/2021 20:16

Driving on the M25 is like no other motorway. Ive no idea why the driving is different there, but its so dangerous.

RandomMess · 18/09/2021 20:17

I have driven the M25 for decades, the Birmingham M6/M5 is far far worse no one seems to believe the rule of keep left exists...

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 18/09/2021 20:19

Yeah l learnt to drive around Croydon. It's an experience.

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 18/09/2021 20:19

I don’t know, the north circular is full of idiots.

user89000005 · 18/09/2021 20:20

Because driving on the M25 makes you lose the will to live?

colouringindoors · 18/09/2021 20:21

M25 Driving is the worst!

I honestly wonder if some drivers have actually passed their test (in UK) and/or have ever read the Highway Code. So many drivers siting in the 3rd lane of 4 at 70, with 1st and 2nd lanes empty does my head in. Two drivers doing under 60 in the 2nd lane (1st empty) of 4. What?!

Bagelsandbrie · 18/09/2021 20:22

I nearly shit my pants every time I have to drive on a dual carriageway or motorway now. Everyone drives so selfishly and aggressively. It’s become much worse since Covid. No one gives a fuck about anyone else anymore.

Herhereherhere · 18/09/2021 20:23

What @RandomMess said. I find the M25 pretty sensible given the speed cameras etc. Around Birmingham is terrifying and the M1 was pretty hairy at points this summer.

BlueBloodedBlue · 18/09/2021 20:36

Luckily never driven around Birmingham, and based on today, never want to Smile

Totally agree. They must think they are invincible it’s sad really as one day they will crash. I get a bit scared driving now because of it.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 18/09/2021 20:44

I lived in Birmingham for 4 years and found the M25 much worse

Ozanj · 18/09/2021 20:47

The problem with the M6 is the spaghetti layout. The problem with the M25 is genuinely the drivers. It’s so frightening

RandomMess · 18/09/2021 20:49

Only on the M6/M5 do you end up with drivers sitting at 50-60mph in all 3-4 lanes for no reason at all 🤷🏽‍♀️

BrilliantBetty · 18/09/2021 20:53

I honestly wonder if some drivers have actually passed their test (in UK) and/or have ever read the Highway Code

Exactly.
There are a lot of driver out there on the M25 who don't know the rules of the road.

FAQs · 18/09/2021 20:55

Was you driving in one of the middle lanes with nothing on the left?

Tooembarrassingtomention · 18/09/2021 21:07

M25 is a doddle
Try central Bradford

Dongdingdong · 18/09/2021 21:08

@colouringindoors the examples you gave make very little sense without knowing the traffic situation in other lanes.

Hiddenmnetter · 18/09/2021 21:10

Northbound Blackwell tunnel approach + barking roundabout. 2 points of London where roadrules mean nothing. It's the jungle and only the strong survive

Hiddenmnetter · 18/09/2021 21:10

Blackwall*

Hellocatshome · 18/09/2021 21:13

Never done the M25 but the A19 in bad weather is like playing Russian Roulette.

Neron · 18/09/2021 21:13

Agreed. I'm travelling the M25 regularly for uni and I hate that road with a passion.
You also have those they do know the rules, but chose to be ignorant. Results in unnecessary traffic build up and undertaking.

Neron · 18/09/2021 21:14

I see your Bradford and Birmingham...and raise you the A406...

AmandaHugenkiss · 18/09/2021 21:16

North circular is worse. The bottom section of the A1 is also carnage. While the m25 is bad, it’s not the worst bit of my daily commute.

Simonjt · 18/09/2021 21:18

90mph?! Usually you barely get out of third gear on the M25!
