Help - alternative to tyrozets

HermioneKipper · 16/09/2021 18:35

Sorry I know this isn’t an AIBU but I’m desperate and don’t know where else to ask.

I get terrible throats which can easily turn into tonsillitis and they’ve discontinued tyrozets which are amazing and used to stave off tonsillitis for me.

I’ve used the last of my stash and I can feel my sore throat turning south quickly. I CAN’T get tonsillitis. My daughter is back to school, i have twins to look after and my husband has already taken loads of leave etc to cover the kids sickness. I’ll probably get sacked if I take any more time off too

Does anyone know of anything similar that’s still legal to buy? Help me!

No!! I love tyrozets! I didnt know they weren't available anymore.
Not much help to you sorry, but I can sympathise x

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/09/2021 18:38

They’ve discontinued tyrozets???

They were the best!

Wopies · 16/09/2021 18:39

Oh no I just had my last Tyrozet yesterday. I can't believe they have discontinued them. I only discovered them about 5 years ago and they were the only thing that worked. Whyyyyyy?Sad

BakedTattie · 16/09/2021 18:39

Sorry no advice but I stock piled tyrozets as I knew they were being discontinued, they were a godsend. Gutted when we ran out. Nothing else works as good

Covidwoes · 16/09/2021 18:41

Difflam throat spray or mouthwash. It really helped when I had tonsillitis.

Standrewsschool · 16/09/2021 18:42

Difflam lozenges?

MrsMonkeyBear · 16/09/2021 18:43

I got some Covonia ones from boots that the closest things I could find.

If not Difflam spray and gargling with Corsodyl works for me too.

grasstreeleaf · 16/09/2021 18:43

Erm not sure but a clove of garlic in lemon juice & honey has seemed to help me with an ear infection before. It practically went overnight anyway. Maybe gargle it a bit.

Alas this doesn’t work. I was tricked by this site. Had loads in my basket, checked out and the order was accepted. But it got cancelled

Why oh why did they stop tyrozets 😭😭😭😭😭

I think it was because they had an antibiotic in them

OP posts:
grasstreeleaf · 16/09/2021 18:47

Yikes! @ThinWomansBrain isn't that in bleach? Sounds a bit too drastic. I'm sure mouthwash would do the job and be a better strength more suited to oral tissue.

HermioneKipper · 16/09/2021 18:48

@ThinWomansBrain

not remotely like tyrozets (used to love those, haven't had one in years), but try gargling with peroxide. Kills/cures anything
Are you joking?! This is trump style advice!

frazzledasarock · 16/09/2021 18:49

Go to the gp, they’ll check you over had prescribe antibiotics if needed.

Think tyrozets were discontinued because they contained antibiotics.

grasstreeleaf · 16/09/2021 18:50

Cloves (chew them) are good for pain relief and are anti inflammatory.

DaveMinion · 16/09/2021 18:51

Oh no they were the best for tonsillitis! Thankfully I've had my tonsils taken out now but you have my sympathies xx

grasstreeleaf · 16/09/2021 18:51

Don't dismiss gargling with salt water either. Can stop bacterial infection.

Winnona · 16/09/2021 18:53

Gargling a soluble aspirin (you can swallow the solution afterwards) helps with pain and inflammation.

Hboo31 · 16/09/2021 18:53

Worked in a pharmacy - Chloralieve are the closest replacements we found to stock last year when we realised tyrozets had gone

HermioneKipper · 16/09/2021 18:53

It’s not tonsillitis yet and I’m praying it won’t turn into it @frazzledasarock as that will lay me up for days.

The GP is so tight with antibiotics my last bout of antibiotics nearly turned into quinsy

I wish they’d rip the buggers out with a rusty spoon but they said I have to get it 8 times in a year for them to do that!

Medical hydrogen peroxide: www.medino.com/product/care-hydrogen-peroxide-solution-6-20-vols-200ml NOT Domestos.

grasstreeleaf · 16/09/2021 18:56

@ZoyaTheDestroyer, a vital detail!Grin
