Help - alternative to tyrozets

HermioneKipper · 16/09/2021 18:35

Sorry I know this isn’t an AIBU but I’m desperate and don’t know where else to ask.

I get terrible throats which can easily turn into tonsillitis and they’ve discontinued tyrozets which are amazing and used to stave off tonsillitis for me.

I’ve used the last of my stash and I can feel my sore throat turning south quickly. I CAN’T get tonsillitis. My daughter is back to school, i have twins to look after and my husband has already taken loads of leave etc to cover the kids sickness. I’ll probably get sacked if I take any more time off too

Does anyone know of anything similar that’s still legal to buy? Help me!

They were the only by lozenge you could buy over the counter that actually worked amd stopped your throat hurting. So of course it’s those that gets discontinued.

Why is it that it’s always the most effective OTC products that get discontinued? Is there a squad somewhere that assesses products to see if they’re effective, to make sure you can only buy stuff in pharmacies that’s expensive but fairly useless?

NotMyCat · 17/09/2021 01:26

Tonsillitis is just grim. I'm prone to it anyway but when people say "oh I've got tonsillitis" I am Envy
My version is unable to speak, sometimes can't swallow my own saliva, high temp. Last time was so bad that my dad drove me to OOH and I'm 36! Dad "I've got a torch, let's see. Ugh that's disgusting" Grin

@Crunchymum And this is why you should take medical advice on MN, with a massive pinch of salt.
Because you might get people reccommending stuff that is covered in NICE guidelines?

So can they be prescribed? Or are they gone forever!?

No way! These were the best! The only thing I can think of is chloroseptic (sp?) spray!

Poppyscone · 17/09/2021 22:26

Bloody hell first Indian brandy which was great for a upset tummy and trapped wind.
Need rinsed pastels for mouth ulcers and now this!!!

This site is a swizz. You can’t buy them from here. I’ve tried. They accept the order but cancel it

Gargle daily with hydrogen peroxide from boots, even if you get tonsillitis it'll clear it (if it's bacterial) quicker than antibiotics.

FitzChivalry · 17/09/2021 22:46

Ages ago,I rang the company that used to make Tyrozets up and they said they discontinued them because they contained an antibiotic and they had to stop as it could contribute to antibiotic resistance.

QuestionableMouse · 17/09/2021 22:52

They were discontinued because they were contributing to antibiotic resistance. Damn shame.

ShushShushShush · 17/09/2021 22:56

Nooooo! First rinstead, now tyrozets! What next!? 😭

Difflam spray is good, does actually work.

BEWARE

user1468832061 · 11/11/2021 21:09

BEWARE OF WWW.DAILYCHEMIST
THEY TAKE YOUR ORDER MONEY BUT YOU DO NOT GET THE TABLETS

HoppingPavlova · 12/11/2021 01:16

Never a popular suggestion, but is there any way you can go private so you can just have them removed without having to basically have it as a chronic state before anything is done?

Jaebob · 07/12/2021 04:28

Chloralieve lozenges worked for me

Mypassword12 · 24/12/2021 12:59

I ordered from Daily Chemist.. afterwards I found that many people had small amounts being taken from their credit cards after using this website..I had lots of fraudulent transactions too. AVOID!

Bistromamma · 12/03/2023 11:58

Gargling with Aloe Vera juice has helped my sore throat. Spit it out though as you can only drink a certain amount a day.

Madamecastafiore · 12/03/2023 13:45

Gargle with dilute hydrogen peroxide solution at first sign of discomfort, it'll oxidise the bacteria and stop the tonsillitis in its tracks. Do it every 3 hours.

I hope the OP found a solution in the intervening 15 months
