Anyone have them at the moment?!? So annoying. Even the vinegar and fairly liquid trick isn’t working :(

Don't have any here. Do you have any gone off fruit?
EsmesRedPetticoat · 16/09/2021 17:29

Yes! They just won’t fuck off. I have no idea where they are all coming from but we are plagued by them.

lilacdinosaur · 16/09/2021 17:31

Yes all the time just now, my mum was just complaining about it too. I've stopped putting food into the inside food bin and it seems to have helped a bit.

SueGeneris · 16/09/2021 17:32

We found a load in a forgotten bag of potatoes. Once we chucked that they disappeared.

Before that we got one of those window stickers that attracted them. Then mysteriously they disappeared off the window sticker.

Then I saw the cat licking the window sticker.

I bought these and they worked when all else had failed.

Fruit flies?
WeAllHaveWings · 16/09/2021 17:36

Last 2-3 weeks I have noticed a couple in the kitchen and one always appears near dh in the living room and pisses him off when we are eating dinner. His reaction every single meal with arms flying everywhere to swat it is more annoying than the bloody fruit fly!

There are probably more, but no idea how to get rid of them or what they are feeding on, I have cleaned the plug holes, there is no fruit/veg out, I am putting the bin out every day and have tried fly spray. They are hardy little buggers.

ofwarren · 16/09/2021 17:39

I've noticed them the past few weeks and my cousin who lives in a different county posted about them on Facebook too and lots of her friends said they were also having issues.
Shes a cleaner and very, very clean/tidy so I can't imagine she has left rotten fruit anywhere.

Elieza · 16/09/2021 17:52

I’ve got them in compost that I reported a plant into. There’s now a swarm. Something must have laid eggs in the compost and now they’ve hatched. Great. Black flies galore.

Elieza · 16/09/2021 17:53

Repotted

TheFoundations · 16/09/2021 18:00

You've got some food out somewhere. They don't hang around for nothing. They'll eat from bins/drains/plants. Empty and clean your bins. Seal all your food. Put all your plants in one room or in the shed for a day or two. Disinfect your drains with boiling water.

If you want to know the cause, do these things one at a time. If you just want the flies gone, do these things now.

TheNestedIf · 16/09/2021 18:14

Yes. They're being weird. They're not interested in alcohol, or what's in the bin. The ones I have just seem to want to float around about 6" from my face.

SirChenjins · 16/09/2021 18:16

Yes - and no rotten fruit here. They’re everywhere, it’s driving me mad

PumpkinKlNG · 16/09/2021 18:17

Yeh I had them bad when my child left a pot of pasta behind the sofa 🤢 the pot was empty but the sauce still attracted them, took months to get rid despite doing the vinegar traps they just wouldn’t leave

misspurple90 · 16/09/2021 18:20

ISpyCobraKai · 16/09/2021 18:20

Definitely no food lying around here, yet I still got the little floaty shits.

magicstar1 · 16/09/2021 18:22

I'm in Dublin and plagued with them. Also have very large crane flies this year (shudder)

Threewheeler1 · 16/09/2021 18:26

Yes! Glad it's not just me. Not from food (I think) but from my succulents. I swear they are living in my hair cos they seem to appear from behind me all over the house! Little fast moving gits.

LargeInCharge · 16/09/2021 18:26

Yes, and no rotting food anywhere. We used the vinegar and fairy technique which smelt horrendous but they seemed to prefer DH’s cooled down coffee with milk and one sugar which the majority drowned in.

Glad they’re gone.

Tangledtresses · 16/09/2021 18:28

We are also inundated with them but we do have a fruit tree outside with lots of rotting fruit so to be expected tbf

Threewheeler1 · 16/09/2021 18:29

magicstar1
Crane flies are so grim! Had a massive one in the lounge the other day doing its ghosty flight, all floppy legged and bashing into things. I honestly couldn't bear to even try and catch it so I left the room and shut the door until morning Grin

Wole · 16/09/2021 18:42

Please ignore my previous post..they have decended. Wtf!

Davros · 16/09/2021 18:49

Yes I've got them too. We were away for a few days so I emptied and washed any bin/recycling, put lemons in the fridge, bleached kitchen sink. I was very pleased with myself. Came back and they're everywhere again. They don't want red wine, coffee or margharita🍸

RunningStrong · 16/09/2021 18:51

Yes! Is it a seasonal thing?. Only had them for the last week or two and masses of them today.

I swear I don't have any food out anywhere.

dementedma · 16/09/2021 18:56

This is interesting. We have had way more than usual this year. Bloody annoying.
